    This was a very shocking time for America. Learning of Rock Hudson’s diagnosis I believe changed the face of AIDS.. Thanks for sharing this important footage from history.

    Eisenheimer did an excellent job communicating information and creating a calm atmosphere amongst a serious, frightening period. I’m glad to know someone as responsible as him informed the masses during such a horrific time

    What a bloody awful time this was . I was 14 when the AIDS epidemic was starting in the states . I was to young to understand back then . But as I got older . I started to begin to know what it was . And it was the 90s when I understood what was going on . When my HERO the late great Freddie Mercury died with it . I loved Rock Hudson as I’m a huge Doris Day fan . And he starred in loads of movies with her . With Rock he was portrayed with a huge heterosexual image . The movies he was in . everyone would assume he’s heterosexual, with Freddie Mercury we all knew he was Homosexual. But they kept there private lives to themselves , and they have the right to do so . Rock Hudson was a huge movie star , and my god a sex symbol , he was soooo good looking . And charming . I loved hes movies and had a crush on him and Tony Curtis when I was growing up , they were my sex symbols , now it’s Johnny Depp who I think of as a sex god . No one deserves this disease , straight or gay , and like a person on an earlier post I think was alexandra the way people treated these victims were disgraceful , poor children chased out of school with haemophilia. Who contraced the aids virus through no cause of there own . They had an awful time people with this disease , R.I.P to all those who died of AIDS . Bless them alll x

    Wow, look at how this is so little viewed and how it can't possibly be compared to everything going on in 2021. So many people have the memory of gnats.

    This is so heartbreaking to watch. All the people that have died since this broadcast is horrible. The government did nothing. Regan refused to mention the word AIDS until 1987. 1987!

      was Reagan's fault and Trump's too huh? Maybe Rock Hudson's promiscuous lifestyle had a little something to do with it

      @@jeffreyzeiss1326 what shitty reply on your part. So everyone that dies deserved it? Can you imagine not one president talking about covid for 5 years as it's killing people? I guess in your mind AIDS killed all the right people. Wow! Evil!

      That was because Dr. Fauci lied to Regan saying that AIDS was only "a gay disease." Perhaps if Fauci told the truth we might have known more about AIDS earlier.

    First off: The days when journalists, actually were journalists!! Secondly, Amazing how people kept their private business behind doors. Even Movie Stars straight, or gay, had self respect, and didn't need to flaunt their sexuality all over the place. It's getting old, and tiresome. Nobody wants to know who your sleeping with. Rock Hudson, was truly a amazing talent. Bless his heart. Nobody deserves this disease. I wouldn't wish it, on my worst enemy. Nobody talks about how people with AIDS suffered injustices today. Ryan White, a hemophiliac, had contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion. So many people went through such horrible discrimination. Caucasian, Blacks, Asians. We talk about "racism" today. However, we don't talk about the the prejudices against people with AIDS. My father was one of the first Doctors to work with people with AIDS. I remember the understanding our home had, and the fact that my siblings and I, knew more about AIDS at 5, then my own teacher. RIP all who died with this disease, and all disease's that ever made them feel alienated, and alone. ✝

    This goes straight in my favorites. I think this is an historical document, the beginning of AIDS, almost beginning.Is it true that Rock Hudson had both liver cancer and AIDS? For the saliva there's been a lot of talk for 10-20 years, we didn't know for sure and we still don't know 100% if you can get AIDS from salive, especially from kissing someone. Another thing I'd like to know is how Magic Johnson and Greg Louganis are still alive more than 30 years after their AIDS diagnosis. Is it because they're rich and have better doctors and better drugs?

    • @polcasuy
      @polcasuy 2 года назад

      Magic Johnson and Greg Louganis have been healthy because they never had AIDS by the time the antirretroviral drugs appear in the mid 90s. They were just HIV positive and treatment became available before the virus would damage their bodies to the point of getting opportunistic infections (AIDS).

      Some people have HIV but don't have active symptoms for a long time (up to 15 years), which may have been their case. Also, as of 1996, with the drug cocktail, AIDS has become a chronic rather than a terminal disease, so they probably started taking it when it became available. Also, Hudson was very wealthy and could afford the best doctors, and it didn't help him.

    i didn't know this about Rock Hudson when i was a young boy everyone used to tell me he wasn't gay and died in a car crash, funny i thought, how do you get aids from a car crash? unless you ether were omo bumming when you crashed or from blood transfusion. felt sorry for Hudson he was 60 but always used to say he felt like a young man inside.

      AZT didn’t get FDA approval for AIDS until almost two years after he passed away, although it was around for decades before that for cancer. That’s probably why. 😔

      I like your question a lot! It made me learn something new.
      It seems Rock went there for HPA-23, which was used for HIV/AIDS three whole years before the US approved AZT. The government didn't want the latter to be put into the wild prematurely without proper testing but as we know the disease was a menace and they fast-tracked it.
