Before they reveal the trick. I think the assistant is under the curtain in the back. There might be a 2nd assistant with her hidden with a lamp and candle La Brea...my guess
There definitely is some chicanery going on in some of these explanations. I've noticed in a few others the cuts in the explanation don't line up with the recorded version presented first. Either in terms of time for assistants to move, how clumsy some of the moves seem when shown (despite having no time pressure), or just mass - there's definitely no assistants under the back drape at the end of the first take.

Great trick. The small details noticeable in warehouse setting wouldn't be in a stage setting i.e. the pole.
The binding rope changes position on the blonde from when she was originally bound. It is suddenly draped over her shoulder.
