Funny that what they tried to do with Fields. Let him grow into it. Don’t bet your life that Mathis starts. But if Mathis doesn’t start then get ready for the racist crap. I don’t care who starts it is the one that holds up that natty trophy at the End!!!!!
At 1:17, "Mathis has caught fire". The proverbial switch has been thrown. Good for him, and apparently thrown for Beck too - 1:27. Gotta love depth that is more than just bodies.
I think what people are starting to see is Mathis' confidence increasing. He is making plays against our 1st team defense, and he understands the offense more than what people give him credit for. I also think Mathis is causing problems with the RPO game, and the read game. Because now you have a QB that causes the defense to have to stay honest or risk getting burned.
Nah I think you’ve got Johnny Football stuck in your head. That was an anomaly when that happened. You’ve got to be solid at qb. Not a runner or risky with the football Joe Burrow Trevor Lawrence Deshaun Watson Etc. yes I know auburn won a couple but those were in spite of qb play.
Couldn't it be that they already know that Daniels has started and how he has picked up the offense. Maybe with covid and chance of an injury need to have Mathis and Beck prepared tool
Lol the smoke and mirrors thinking there is a competition at qb is hilarious. This decision was made a long time ago and people feed into the idea a competition is going on.
Phillip Beck reading defenses and presnap reads at the line is why Justin Fields didn’t win the job in 2018. Fields was the better thrower, he was the better athlete but he had trouble in the huddle, with pre-snap reads at the line (thats where Fromm excelled) and Justin couldn’t get past his first and second progression, he would lock onto receivers, but he’s a freak of an athlete with a cannon for an arm. D’wan Mathis, we just don’t know because other than what we’re being told, but how and anyone root against him? I’m not, but we’re under 2 weeks now they gotta pick a horse.
It means his mechanics is not smooth and he move off of pure athleticism. Think of Lamar Jackson when he was at Louisville, or Cam at Auburn. They were not very polished at all, but was incredibly athletic.
Ya and his weak center, small below average OL and Clay Helton calling the plays didn't help. Clay was replaced after this season by Graham Harrell. Did you know Jt graduated 1 year early from HS. He would have been a HS senior the year he started 11 games in college. Look what he did against #5 Notre Dame. #15 Washington State. And Number 8 Texas. Common man. You're trying to hard. You don't know anything. You want D'wan but don't try and take away from the fact the dude did a great job considering the circumstances.

Why the fascination with a guy who can run? FYI. Tom Brady a slow non mobile guy. Last year a duel threat guy finally won a Superbowl but he had his worst game of the year with two int's that game. Proving KC has a defense. It's not all him. Georgia has never had a Heisman QB. That's because of stuff like this you pick a guy because he can run but doesn't know the play book? Lol. If that's the case why not poach the 4x 100 track team for a QB.
Did you not see Burrow in his first NFL game? Each of these players can move. They can run and extend plays. Borrow was a headache with his running ability.
I don't think you know the difference between duel threat and pocket passers who can run. Lamar Jackson is a duel threat, yes but all that QBs you just mentioned are considered pocket passers but they all run. Jesus, Trevor Lawrence ran for like 100 yards against Ohio State. maybe you should learn a little more before posting dumb shit.
☝️ This guy has been D'wan the whole time. He mentions JT and gives no details just he's not clear every video. Then goes on and talks about Beck and Dwan in detail. Yet he's never seen any one them practice quote "he heard" I've been to USC practices and have season tickets. I know what JT can do.
The point is there is a full blown QB competition happening. No one is saying JT is getting blown out the water. It's literally stemming around whether he will be cleared to play or not. Dwan is cleared to play and he is balling out. This is why the focus is on him, because if JT is not cleared to play, who will be the starter? This QB depth is important right now. Especially with all this BS COVID-19 crap going on.
Georgia will probably play Mathis only because he might be able to pick up some yards with his legs. He stares down receivers and has shown small ability to go through his progressions to open Wrs. Georgia will try to smash the run game and lean on their defense. Beck will probably go through progressions better but he cant run. Pollack is a joke for pumping Mathis up like that.. How important is reading defenses pre-snap?
Phillip Beck IMO, it is extremely important. Top 3 most important traits of a QB
In cfb you can compensate for it with arm talent and athleticism, aka Trevor Lawrence lol
