The canvas on the vintage pieces is the best! I have a vintage 1984 Speedy that I bought preloved and a new Speedy I got like 2 years ago. Canvas on the vintage bag feels so much more sturdy and aside from the patina of the leather, you would never know its an almost 40 years old.
While it might not be "authentic", I actually like the replacement zipper better than what it would have had originally. I think it matches/blends in with the canvas really well. Whoever did the work did a great job too!
I went to get my neverful releathered, they lost my bag. I have had that bag since 2012 (paid about $1000, can’t remember), but back then they didn’t have the pouch, they replaced my bag with a new bag with the pouch; low-and-behold they gave me a new bag (back then worth $2,030 😢) with the pouch. The customer service was EXCELLENT and they were very professional. Glad they didn’t lose yours Michelle ❤
I have a mix of new and vintage LV canvas pieces and the vintage just hold a special place in my heart. I do feel less stress using them and I enjoy the feeling that I'm taking them on new adventures but still connected to the places they have been. They really are so much fun to enjoy!
My first Louie was a graduation gift from HS in ‘77. Back then we just called them doctor’s bags. My aunt got the Horse feed bag the same year. I’ve since gotten luggage & even that is way better than the stuff out now.
I have a speedy 40 from 84 and the quality is amazing. The bag it 6 years older than me and how it’s worn is just quality. I do have newer bags from lv as well and I love them, but something about the vintage ones are just 👩🏾🍳 💋

The zipper looks great! My vintage Speedy has its original zipper and it’s so tarnished that it looks brown. Besides, if a person gets THAT close to inspect your zipper, they have far bigger issues than the zipper on your bag! 😂 Enjoy your cute, sentimental bag with the awesome functioning zipper!!!
I think the brass original zipper would have tarnished anyway. On my older Speedy it appears brown even though I’ve polished it again and again. It looks good and it has sentimental value for you so I think it’s a win.
I have exact vintage bag and my zipper broke. Louis Vuitton sent it off to be repaired but they would not repair it. I had considered having it repaired somewhere else but didn’t know if I should do that. I think I will after seeing your bag. .
Was hoping you might answer a question . I bought my first LV bag (a 2019 Babylone PM in monogram Mahina leather) from The Real Real and the braided leather handle is loosening and the glazing on their is tacky to the touch . I do have the original receipt but her name and credit card information are blocked out. Would LV fix it? It’s only been worn twice and I have babied it. What. And how do I speak to lv to accomplish this.. I am now disabled and cannot carry a bag that large and want to sell her.

Hello! Louis Vuitton repair/replaces zippers free of charge. I have had a replacement zipper on my pochette accessories and a repair on my speedy 30, both times they didn’t charge me anything.
