Soccer Mommy - "Shotgun" | Indie88 Black Box Sessions

Singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy, otherwise known as Sophie Allison, is gearing up to release her third album Sometimes, Forever. Out on June 24 of this year, the release follows her widely acclaimed 2020 album Color Theory. She released the album’s lead single “Shotgun” in March.
While she is mainly inspired by pop music, Allison cites artists like Slowdive, Mitski, and The Chicks as major influences. She also draws inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne. Avril’s Under My Skin was the first CD she ever owned.
The Nashville-based artist spent several years releasing songs on Bandcamp. In 2018 she released her debut studio album Clean on Fat Possum Records.
Soccer Mommy has toured with Stephen Malkmus, Kacey Musgraves, Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, and Wilco to name a few.
Her 2020 album Color Theory earned widespread critical acclaim. Virtually every year-end list highlighted it, including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Spin, and Stereogum.
She will be releasing her third studio album Sometimes, Forever on June 24 via Loma Vista. Steeped in early-2000s pop rock, the new album also contains nods to the synthy sounds of new wave and goth. Allison continues to prove her ability to craft striking melodies supported by her poignant lyricism.
The album’s title refers to the cyclical nature of good and bad feelings. “Sorrow and emptiness will pass, but they will always come back around - as will joy,” Sophie says. “At some point you’re forced to say, I’ll have to take both.”
Soccer Mommy visited us to perform “Shotgun,” the first single from Sometimes, Forever. “‘Shotgun’ is all about the joys of losing yourself in love,” Allison explains. “I wanted it to capture the little moments in a relationship that stick with you.”
