    Whoever plays Ganondorf, i hope he plays him completely ruthless and unapologetically evil. He’s not a goofy villain like Bowser, he’s an actual menace to the world in every incarnation

    • @zacziggarot
      @zacziggarot 11 месяцев назад +2

      Meh, most of Ganondorf's scenes aren't that though. In twilight Princess he's trying to break out of prison, in oot and totk he's just a sneaky guy with ZERO motive. I don't think it's very compelling for an enemy to be a dick just for the sake of being a dick. The problem is is if you give him an actual motive people are going to side with him over Hyrule itself. It's obviously why Nintendo has never given him motivation in any of the games. He says he wants to be king but doesn't actually say WHY.
      He's never really been ruthless in any of the games, we hear about it, but never see any of it. It's all here-say at this point. If anything Ganondorf and Demise have been nothing but respectful to Link, commending him for his courage and fighting prowess.
      After he became king travelers didn't have to worry about stal-children or other monsters in hyrule field 🤷 seems like a pretty decent king 🤔 he even gave Talon the boot, you've seen how much he sleeps, you've seen how lazy he is, you can't tell me that that was a bad decision 🤣 the man literally let his daughter wander around the Hyrule marketplace ALONE for a full 24 hours before he was woken up
      Legitimately, anytime they get into the city why don't you just remember that Hyrule has a GIGANTIC field but still forces the gerudo to live in the desert 🧐 you think they CHOSE that lifestyle? Ganondorf's motives make a lot more sense when you realize that they were probably forced to live out there. But that's just spitballing and all I really can do is spitball because Nintendo hasn't given us Ganondorf's ACTUAL motives, thus turning him into a pretty lame and generic villain.
      Rauru even basically castrated the Gerudo cutting out the male born to them every 100 years, he sealed them off for millennia almost forcing them to die out and people like you are still saying that Ganondorf is the bad guy 😂 breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom is all the proof you need, before link goes to sleep in breath of the wild there's no male gerudo and by the end of totk there's STILL no male Gerudo.
      Nintendo was so bad at writing stories that even when there's a single male born every hundred years they're all just Ganondorf 😂

      @zacziggarot it can be a good motivation, it was just so oversaturated. Now the idea of a villain being this misunderstood man who was just mistreated as a kid and is actually a good guy is definitely oversaturated. He should have a motive, but he is literally the incarnation of evil

    • @zacziggarot
      @zacziggarot 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@Beans-do6wc no I didn't say he was a good guy, I was saying that if Nintendo actually bothered to go through and give him an actual motivation people would end up siding with him. That's why they try make him a full amorphous evil like a lich or the shadow riders from lord of the rings. It's kind of weak writing tbh. It's actually a lot more oversaturated and lazy than the redeemed villain trope you mentioned.
      If they ever actually gave him a motive that made sense people would end up rooting for the antagonist just because he'd have an actual character motivation, Nintendo doesn't want that.
      What did Demise ever even do? More importantly: WHY did he do it? He seeks to subjugate the world, but WHY? Is it because he's unhappy with the current monarchy? Why can't the story ever delve into that? Why should we be fine with Zelda and Link repeatedly but not offer Ganondorf the same courtesy? Is it something else? Why can I think of three different solid motivations while Nintendo hasn't given us ANYTHING. It feels like he's trying to right something that wronged him. I just want to know what that was, a good reason WHY we're fighting him without the lame excuse: "cuz he's just evil." Seems like every time we see "evil" they're just trying to escape imprisonment. If Nintendo wants to drive home that these characters ARE evil they should probably just let them succeed for a little while like they did with Ganondorf in oot and actually make them present throughout the course of the game so we can SEE them being evil instead of just hearing about it and only seeing them pop up in the last half hour for a boss fight. It was super disappointing, Koga had more scenes and development than the ACTUAL Demon King. We see phantom Zelda more than Ganondorf and actual Zelda

It had plenty to take seriously, but it wasn't afraid of introducing a lot of super goofy elements either. Especially with the track records of the producer and director though, I'm not sure I'd trust them to replicate that in a way that feels faithful. I love animation, and I'm sure an animated Zelda also has the ability to be phenomenal, particularly if you got anime style ala Studio Ghibli or maybe stop motion ala Laika.

    Regarding the choice of producer and director, I had a thought: Between this and the Mario movie, it seems like Nintendo wants to work with people who aren't necessarily held in the highest regard in the film industry. Considering how important it is for Nintendo to have almost complete creative control of their IPs, I wonder if they are intentionally choosing to work with potentially less respected studios, producers, writers, etc. so that they can have more input as to how their films are made. As cool as a Zelda movie produced by Ghibli would be, for example, in reality, I would imagine it would be much more difficult for Miyamoto to get his way if it conflicted with Miyazaki's vision. I would imagine that would be the case for a number of more respected studios or directors. I could be completely wrong, but it seems like an intentional choice that Nintendo is working with people in the industry who have less than stellar track records in their filmography

    • @HierophantMeme
      @HierophantMeme 11 месяцев назад +2

      I have a theory that Miyazaki's directorial debut with Lupin the Third The Castle of Cagliostro in 1979 might've had something to do with him not wanting to work with others. Miyazaki and the creator of Lupin constantly bumped heads through the whole thing because they each had a different vision of the characters. Knowing that Miyamoto has a track record of getting things his way as well (seeing as he was the creator of Zelda, after all) before passing on the torch to Aonuma-san, I'm pretty sure a Nintendo/Ghibli collab wouldn't have gone anywhere anyway lol

  • @Random1567
    @Random1567 Год назад +6

    My guess is Miyamoto is focusing on starting off each IP, like how he started off Mario and Zelda into 3D, but over time he’ll allow others to help him more so and take over a lot for him, like how he passed the torch to Aonuma for Zelda eventually. Just as long as he has a say and maintains some control. Then we can get movies/sequels more often.

    Yes, it definitely is a hard task to convey a fitting, serious approach to Zelda in live action and it would require a great art direction and script plus a clear vision of what the product would be like, but if they can find the right people; a darker, Twilight Princess-style live action movie could be incredible. Much higher potential than animated even tho at a higher risk due to the difficulty of getting it right.

    Hey Arlo! I'm cautiously optimistic for this and I think if this movie does adapt any past Zelda game for the big screen, that Ocarina of Time would be the best fit story-wise and that Twilight Princess would work best visually and tonaly as well. I understand why people would be a bit worried about this being a live-action movie, but after how well the Mario movie turned out I have faith that Nintendo won't allow anyone to mess up this Zelda movie, especially considering how important and popular the series is now, and I honestly think this has alot of potential. I'd honestly be interested in hearing Link talk on-screen in this movie as well, and I hope that he's done well as a character and that this leads to him talking at least some in future Zelda games, like during important story cutscenes, because I've always wanted to hear Link talk so I could connect a bit more to him as a character and so he could express more personality himself and have stronger and more impactful reactions than just facial expressions alone can do. I'm not saying he should constantly talk, but I think having Link just be a reserved man of few words who lets his actions speak for him rather than a guy who says nothing at all would be more compelling for him in the modern day and help him connect to new players even more. Also because having him be a silent protagonist would not work in this movie, so having him talk is a necessity really, which as long as he's written and performed well I don't think would bother anyone or be a problem at all.

I think I hear where people are coming from--and I admit the production team does not inspire a ton of confidence--but a live-action Zelda can work. I'm thinking back to the fan reaction when we found out about the art style of Windwaker. People who played Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask had the concept of a dark, realistic Zelda in their minds. Speaking as someone who played the two original games when they were new and current, it never occurred to me until Windwaker, that Zelda games could be cartoony. In retrospect, that was a silly position on my part, especially after playing Link's Awakening, but in those days, it was a common idea that the goal of the graphics was always to be as realistic as possible.
    What I'm trying to get at here, is that a Live Action Zelda movie is a pretty natural choice. I expect it to be kid-friendly, but Zelda is a franchise that includes a substantial adult audience, even going as far back as the original. They're going to want to make choices that preserve that audience.

    In my opinion, they chose live action because: 1) Illumination would NOT be suitable AT ALL for Zelda and 2) Suitable studios like Ghibli have not historically made as much money as Nintendo is looking for and 3) Somewhat suitable studios like Pixar and Dreamworks etc would almost certainly not agree to Nintendo's demands to have complete creative control. So.
    Honestly, I think a lot of their decisions follow these 3 points. Like choosing the director, producer, and writer etc was about finding people who worked on big money makers in the past, who worked on projects which have at least some vague similarities to the Legend of Zelda, and (probably most importantly) people who are actually willing to give up creative control. That's actually why I think they picked people with such poor track records, because they would mostly likely be okay with giving up creative control. Someone who has a history of making really excellent films would probably take that part of the agreement as an insult.

I'm cautiously optimistic on the writing front. As for the animation, it kinda depends on the Zelda. For most of them animation seems like a better fit, but for say Twilight Princess I tend to think of as being better suited to live action. I wonder if they'll take more inspiration from OoT and its loose sequels with a common boy Link who gets chosen by destiny, or from BotW where Link has already accept the hero mantle. Edit:
    I just saw the tweet and the fact it’s being produced by Avi-Arad… As a comics nerd that is a bit concerning. He’s done a lot of marvel and specifically Spider-Man stuff, and yeah he’s not great. To simplify, he produced a some marvel stuff in the late 90s-2000s. It generally ranged from alright to horrible. He produced the first 2 MCU films before being shuffled out for the better. There’s an exception for the MCU Spider-Man projects, but that’s for complicated rights related reasons. Some projects he’s produced have been good, but it’s not really because of him. He’s not a guaranteed bad sign, but he’s not a good one. With all that said, as long as the team is quality and Nintendo is heavily involved (which they claim), the film production can hopefully overcome the de-buff that is Arad lol.
