  • YJT is another Chinese manufacturer similar to Baofeng. The radio is a fairly standard, tough, well built dual band hand held, with all the usual features - CTCSS, DCS, nice clear display and full keypad programming - no computer required but has a special feature - it can be programmed by placing an unknown simplex radio next to it and pressing it's transmit button. This radio senses the frequency and CTCSS tone in use and can then store this information but is it any good? We test it out on the 446 MHz band!

Brilliant video Simon, the radio looks powerful and rugged, like an upgraded Baofeng. That is an odd bug with the firmware, i'm sure it will be ironed out in later iterations.. Also on another note I did hear you one time on the 8 o clock net however your signal was too staticy to communicate... 73's DC260 Danielle - Rufforth.

Hi Danielle, glad you liked the video! Yes the radio is well made and I can't really fault the RF performance. It's just a shame about the little bugs in the firmware, more annoyances than anything. I believe you can also buy this under some other brand names so it may be that programming software from another manufacturer could work with this unit? Regarding the 8 o'clock net, yes it's a pity I couldn't hear you from this side. York area is difficult from this location, I think most of us struggle due to the large drop off from the Yorkshire Wolds. Maybe another time! 73's Simon
