I bought a this lamp right after I saw this video sometime ago. Mine came looking like a returned items from a little banged up , I call the company and they apologized and send me a new one. 😊. They were great! The lamp is great and so is this review and channel 😊
After watching your review I asked my wife to gift one for me for Christmas. It is everything you said it is. Wonderful product. Thank you for bringing this light to my attention .
I received my Phive light yesterday and what an improvement it has made to my painting setup. More light to the whole area and recapturing some flat space because I no longer need to have a light on the desk. Great find, Eric!
Thank you for reviewing this light. I don't think I would have noticed this without your demonstration. Mine was delivered last night. It took me 15 minutes to put together and switch it on. I am so impressed. I live in an apt with very little light. This light is going to be a huge game changer for me.
Thank you for this great review, Eric. I ordered this light and received it yesterday. It is perfect!! I love how the size of it lights up my easel and palette.
Great review. After I watched this a couple of years ago I immediately bought one for painting & working and have never regretted it. I tend to use only one of the light settings but am glad to have the others for comparison. It's both very flexible and very sturdy. Thank you, Eric! You cover all the basics efficiently from an insider's point of view. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much Eric! I just placed my order and can't wait to get my light! In all my searching I did not come across this particular model even though I had been searching Phive lights. You covered all the details. Thank you!
I just received this light yesterday and set it up. It is wide at 31 inches, but it lights up my easel and my side table with my brushes, paint, water, etc. I was able to eliminate an Ott floor lamp and a smaller Ott table lamp! It’s really well made and the neck is very strong and so flexible. So thank you for this video, Eric!
Goth a Phive CL-1 architect lamp as I am about to go to architecture school, light seems absolutely wonderful, and I got a wonderful deal for it used on eBay (2 of them for $37!) great lamp, feels well made, really bright
Saw your review on Sunday and ordered at Amazon the same day. Received it yesterday. Absolut perfect light for 60 €. Thanks for reviewing and recommending.
I got my light and absolutely love it! It really could be all you need in terms of lighting. It’s very large and covers my workspace perfectly. Thank you again.
bonjour Eric, grâce à vous, j'ai acheté cette merveilleuse lampe, merci c'est absolument fantastique ! tout vos conseils et vos démonstrations sont précieux et appréciés
After encountering far too many issues with previous lighting set-ups, this light is on my 'next to purchase' list because it looks like it might finally be the solution I'm looking for! Thanks for the review - you should be getting a commission for what appears to be all the sales you've had a hand in initiating!
Thanks ☺️ I enjoy the light daily. Product review is not something I do often unless it’s something I use personally. I like this light quite a bit. I hope you enjoy it too!
That is a really nice light fixture. And not insanely expensive considering everything it offers! I'm seriously considering one. Maybe I'll give one to myself for Christmas.
Thanks, Eric. I just ordered this in white and will receive it from Amazon Monday. Great detailed info. Grateful for your research. your instructional videos are very well done and have been helpful.
thank you, have been going nuts with my lighting. i have a magnifying clamp lamp - love the ability to use the magnification for details and brightness level, but it's really uneven. was going to put in overhead track lighting but this looks like a better option.
Thank you very much for sharing. Really great lamp. Could you please share what voltage / amps power charger it uses at the wall plug. I have been gifted one by my son but without the charger and would like to source one. I cannot seem to google anything and I am getting no response from the supplier. Any help sincerely appreciated. TIA
I’ve been looking for studio lighting appropriate for painting/color correct. Thank you for sharing this. I hope they offer a floor lamp model. May be better for easel painting?👍🏻
Thank you so much for the information. I was having a hard time with my lighting. If you have time, can you show us how you set up your cameras and mic, etc... for the art RUclipsr too?
Thank you! I just ordered the PHIVE desk lamp from your link. Hope that helps you as much it helps me! I'm having a problem seeing how wet my paper is, I'm hoping this helps. Just started following you and am enjoying your lessons.
Me, in my room with one fluorescent ceiling light, painting, nodding along with the fancy light talk. Mhmm. One day, when I can paint in a room I don't also live in haha.
that's so helpful thank you for this video .. sometimes i record a coloring video for youtube and i have a ring light really i don't feel comfortable when i use the ring light when i am drawing .. if i buy the PHIVE LED desk light will be comfortable not like the ring light?
Is it better to be directly under this light? My drawing table is wider, it’s actually an old small kitchen table, so I would say about 3 ft deep or less, and I was planning on clamping it to the back of the table, but want the lamp to illuminate the whole table
i purchased the Phive light, but when I film, the wetted paper has a very bright glare as captured by my recording phone. is it because of my setup? how do i avoid glare?
Thank you so much for this video. I trust your judgment completely and will be ordering this desk lamp. How long does the bulb last? Have you had to replace the bulb yet ?
Thank you Eric for this recommendation. Could you tell me approximately how long is the AC cord on this lamp? I'm concerned if it will be long enough to reach my nearest outlet.
I've been using a regular office table lamp for my drawings. I've had comments that I need another source of light for video shooting. LED something like yours should do the trick but smaller. I've seen one at Hobby Lobby 🤔🤔🤔
Hello eric, do you think this lamp would be enough to take pictures of my art ? I don't have the space in my room to have two big spots like on your article you wrote on your blog about taking pictures of watercolor. I use daylight and really struggle with paper texture coming out too strong, same when using a scanner. Thanks in advance
@@水彩咖啡廳 thank you for your answer. Is there a reason why you use that method and not a scanner ? Maybe the rough grain paper texture appears too much in the scan ?
@@perfume-tengoku2455 To scan a big painting like that you need a very big scanner or a drum scanner, which is very expensive and hard to comeby. You can send it to professional to do that, but unless you are creating a book or something it is really not necessary.
@@Cafewatercolor Makes sense ! I never paint bigger than A4 so I didn't even think of that but it makes sense for your style of painting. Thank you for the tips and the great channel
I followed your instructions but nit light. Either bulb is bad or some assembly connection is necessary. I slid it on and thought it would light. ready to ship back if I cannot make it work. I am frustrated. Perhaps it is me. Any last minute ideas? I really liked what you said and wanted it to work. Thanks
First viewing ~ absolutely love your coverage of lighting. Went to Amazon and read reviews. Many people described the Phive material inferior. The metal screws stripped out easily. Did you experience this? The head connection to the lamp is sensitive and minor drawing vibrations made the lamp light flicker. Do you still recommend this lamp?
I'll most likely be buying myself one of these lights. Right now I'm using two table lamps and a ceiling led which really isn't working all that well :/
You miss the most important criteria: Is the light "white" in a physics sense? Let's call this criteria 0, rather than 4, because it's crucial. Physical "white" light is light that has good representation across all wave lengths. Fluorescent light is not "white", regardless what it seems to you. Lamp light that contain any kind of filtering is not "white". Lamps that rely on any mixing of sources are suspect. They may be okay. Tungsten lamps are "white" which is why they're workable (but not good) even if their color temperature may be yellow. Halogen lamps are normally "white". LED lamps are funny. Strictly speaking, they're not perfectly "white". But many of them are still very good in this regard and thus fine to work with. And they come with that elusive combination of high color temperature (daylight) (cold light), brightness, good enough "whiteness", affordability and energy efficiency, which makes them a strong candidate for the best choice for most people.

a floor lamp can be hard because it usually projects the light upward, so you are not getting as much light. =)
Yes, that's what you need for a easel indoors.

Thank you. So I could attach it to the easel? has a wall plug ? And uses led bulb?
I don't know how your easel look like so I can't know for sure... If it's a large standup easel then maybe you need something else.
Thank ou for sharing
Eric. I work from an easel what lighting would you recommend. Not sure phive clamp would work. Cannot hang anything from ceiling either
Good question! is it a big standup easel?
Hi Eric, do you still use this for your painting or have you found something better? Would you recommend this for night time painting as well?
Yes, still using this 😊
What's the CRI?
THANKS Eric
i purchased the Phive light, but when I film, the wetted paper has a very bright glare as captured by my recording phone. is it because of my setup? how do i avoid glare?
I paint tilted so I usually don't see much glare. So you might want to change the angle of your light, your paper or your phone. =)
Thank you so much for this video. I trust your judgment completely and will be ordering this desk lamp. How long does the bulb last? Have you had to replace the bulb yet ?
No, this is LED and they last a very, very long time :)
Thank you Eric for this recommendation. Could you tell me approximately how long is the AC cord on this lamp? I'm concerned if it will be long enough to reach my nearest outlet.
You could always use an extension cord.
The old incandecent bulbs were banned in Australia years back to be replaced with far more efficient LED bulbs.

I personally have good experience with it so far and it's been 4 months. But definitely don't do anything you are not comfortable with =)
So whats the CRI of this?
I thought 4000 Kelvin is the neutral light

not available anymore

One good light will really help =)
the lamp is in FRONT of you
wouldn't that give you a lot of reflection?
I adjust it so the angle the reflection bounce off is not directly to my eyes :)
Are you still happy with the light?
yes, still use it everyday 😊
I cannot find any information on this light's CRI level. Having a high CRI (above 90) is essential for painting.
Bhodisatvas this light is CRI 85
Not quite above 90 but good enough for me.
