The box is for a vigor2866 router by Draytek, you can see it on the ground left of the workman too. Why they were so secretive is beyond me, they even covered the front of the box with a piece of paper.

Been watching your videos for a while and I get the feeling there is a shift in how the police interact with you. It wouldn't surprise me if in their meetings you have come up and how to deal with you being at the scene of things. Their proprietary system appears to actually be an off the shelf dreytek router, best keep that hush hush eh. In fairness though I'm surprised to see a router in there. I always assumed those things were playing clips off an SD card on a basic SBC, but this suggests they actually stream the ads to the screens.

Councils and governments use unify a lot for this sort of thing. A bunch of crusty old dreyteks sitting in the bottom of metal advertisement boxes aren't going to be much use to anyone walking around town, don't think those old vigor units support mesh and in my experience draytek roaming is awful.

And in fact, 6:26 the antenna connection matches perfectly with that white box being a Vigor 2865ax - a wireless router. Charlie bang on the money, nice hard working man ("not a wireless router") clearly in denial.
Their proprietary system appears to actually be an off the shelf dreytek router, best keep that hush hush eh. In fairness though I'm surprised to see a router in there. I always assumed those things were playing clips off an SD card on a basic SBC, but this suggests they actually stream the ads to the screens.
@@ZonkedCompanion I suspect there's a pi like device serving up the ads, but the ads are updated remotely on the pi.
As for the router, it's not unlikely that it provides the Manchester free wireless network - the ad boards are perfectly dotted around to serve this function, and they already have connectivity.
@@simonneep8413 yeah I considered that they may be providing WiFi for something else, although if that were the case they would probably be using a unifiy or zytel WiFi 6 mesh mounted on street lights. Councils and governments use unify a lot for this sort of thing. A bunch of crusty old dreyteks sitting in the bottom of metal advertisement boxes aren't going to be much use to anyone walking around town, don't think those old vigor units support mesh and in my experience draytek roaming is awful.
@@ZonkedCompanion True, although the antenna would be built into the sign and fed to the Draytek. Wifi could also be used to feed other signs so you only need a fibre/DSL connection to a few of the signs. It's a pity Charlie didn't enquire about the NOT A WIFI box's purpose :)

Why should anyone (let alone a corporation) be able to have a piece of technology placed within a public space and the public it directly concerns cannot question it or even document it? That absolutely was a Draytek wifi (there a re non-wifi versions but that one had the aerial connections on it) router, you were correct

He called the first man who blocked his line of vision a 'Hyena man', not the guy on the floor working. He actually told the guy on the floor working that he respected him, but then the guy on the floor working decided to be passive aggressive and asked to basically manually be given Charlies camera so he could delete the footage. The guy was an a$$ hat of the highest order. When Charlie points his camera at these people it just highlights their base characteristics, we get to see who they are under the hood.
