Situated at Kollam, Kerala, Ashtamudi Lake is the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala. Along both banks of the lake and its backwater canals, there are many towns and villages interspersed with coconut groves and palm trees. The lake and the life on its shores have inspired many artists and writers. Quilon port was one of the five ports during the Chinese trade. Ashtamudi in Malayalam means eight hair braids depicting large palm-shaped water bodies present here.
Ashtamudi Resort is a premium resort of Club Mahindra. It is situated at Chavara, a small town about 18 Kms from the district headquarter Kollam. Spread over 8 acres of land facing the Ashtamudi lake, it offers a serene and beautiful view of the coconut groves and luminous backwater. This picturesque region in Kerala is One of the most charming holiday destinations in India offering a village serenity and nature’s beauty. The resort has 133 rooms in various categories offering you the best environment with all the facilities. It has 93 studio and 1 bedroom apartments, 18 hotel units and 22 floating villas. Studio rooms have a kitchenette also. All the cottages at the resort give you a stunning view of the Ashtamudi lake. The highlight of this resort is the floating villas on the lake. These 1bedroom cottages offer a magnificent view from the window that opens up to the blue waters and provide a different experience with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding nature.
If you are a food enthusiast, Ashtamudi resort has everything to satisfy your taste. If you’re in the mood for seafood, then don’t miss having a meal at the floating restaurant Finz, where you can enjoy the Kerala delicacies like Karimeen, Meenpeera, crab roast etc. If however, you prefer Continental or North Indian, the multi-cuisine restaurant Ripples is at your service. You could always opt for a Royal cruise lunch or dinner and if you prefer a romantic meal, then go for a poolside candle light dinner. There is also a pool bar to serve you the best mocktails and drinks.
When it comes to things to do in Ashtamudi, you have plenty to choose from. Kathakali performances in the evening compete with flavourful delicacies. You can escape to a soothing Ayurvedic Spa at Swastha by trained staff and feel relaxed and rejuvenated. The resort arranges a lot activities including canoe ride, pedal boat ride, shooting. Cruise along the tranquil waters on a traditional houseboat gives you a chance to join the fishermen setting up their Chinese nets. To watch the dolphins, flying fish and birds, you can take a speedboat ride. Trips are also arranged to nearby attractions like Jatayu Earth Centre, Monroe Island, Sambranikodi etc and boating on the lake.
