Is the sonic upgrade significant enough over the original Rivo to justify the price difference? Assuming the use of the same power supply?

Great review thanks. Could you integrate the video using the I2S output as a connection to the DAC which is the real novelty of this device?

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the review. You’re absolutely right, the I2S output is one of the standout features of the Rivo Plus, and I didn’t get a chance to showcase it in this video.
I’ll definitely consider creating a follow-up video dedicated to exploring the I2S connection and how it pairs with compatible DACs. It’s an exciting addition for audiophiles looking for top-tier sound quality, and I’d love to dive deeper into how it performs in a real-world setup. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi, great video and review. I have the Rivo now and am very much enjoying it so the Rivo+ is on my radar for 2025. I have a question for you: I also use a Euphony Summus streamer/Roon endpoint. It has 2 Usb and 1 i2s outputs. I can connect 3 dacs to it and Roon recognizes all 3 dacs separately. Will it be possible to connect 2 dacs to the usb and i2s outputs of the Rivo+ and have Roon see and play both dacs? Thanks very much! Happy Holidays!!

      Thanks for asking.
I’d love to know the answer too, I’ll have to look into it and get back to you as soon as I know for sure.
Have a great day and best wishes, Yuri!

Nice to see these upgrades but price jump is significant 😢 for this price I would like to see some more classic finishing options. I like blue but not in my stereo set up 😊

    • @YuriBrus
      @YuriBrus  День назад +1

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I can understand where you’re coming from, the price jump is noticeable, and at this level, personal preferences like finish options do make a difference. The blue design definitely stands out, but it’s not for everyone, especially in a more classic or minimalist setup.
Let’s hope they’ll expand on the design options as the product evolves!

I wonder why you didn’t show the option of the Volumio to show the cover and album info on a tv screen through the HDMI output.
I am pretty sure I am not the only one interested in that feature.

    • @YuriBrus

Great point! The HDMI output for displaying album covers and info on a TV screen is indeed a fantastic feature of the Volumio system, and I can see why many would find it useful for enhancing their listening experience.
I didn’t cover it in this video to keep the focus on sound quality and the hardware upgrades, but you’re absolutely right, it’s a feature worth showcasing. I’ll make a note to include it in a future video or demonstration.
      Thanks for bringing it up!

Directly from the horse's mouth: For USB dac connections upgrading from Rivo to Rivo+ should not bring any tangible sonic benefits. Also, the Rivo+ does not replace the Rivo. The Rivo will remain available which is a very good thing as the price difference is not insignificant.

Good, I have the Rivo Black with the Farad Super3 LPS, I also have a capacitor bank in-between the Farad and the Rivo, which did make a noticeable sound quality improvement. I use USB, with a split data/power USB cable. Then galvanic isolation with the cable, more sound improvement. I use a ToneWinner AD-1PRE+ DAC/Preamp with the ToneWinner AD-2PRO+ amplifier. Then the icing on the cake which took the Rivo several more levels higher, the Roon Nucleus One. Audio Nirvana. ;-)

Thank you for pointing that out, @razisn! It’s always helpful to hear directly from the source.
It’s great to hear that Volumio is keeping the Rivo in their lineup, it’s a solid option at its price point, and having both models available gives users flexibility depending on their setup and budget. Thanks for the insight!

@@michaelwright1602How is your Rivo working for you, do you use Wi-Fi ?
I can only use Wi-Fi at the moment and have had so many drop outs with Rivo, even sometimes Roon sees Rivo but the Volumio app does not, but in the same room 4K videos work fine on same Wi-Fi, also the Volumio app says I have 800+mb connection, turning off Rivo makes it work for a while, then it drops out again, very frustrating.

I2S Output with a PS Audio Directstream DAC should be a Great Match 🥳

Yuri, fantastic review and my experience with my Rivo Black when adding the Farad Super3 LPS. The Volumio power supply was not available at the time I purchased my Rivo. I am sure you are very familiar with Roon, and that was the real game changer with my Rivo Black, when I purchased the Roon Nucleus One. Talk about sound quality improvements, across the board improvements. And of course, you need a DAC that can work with Roon to actually get those higher sample rates out to the speakers. Any chance of you getting a Roon Nucleus One in for review now that they are shipping in Europe? I would really appreciate your thoughts, especially with the Rivo+ if you could get both together. I think for the money, the Volumio Rivo with a solid power supply is hitting way above its weight class in regards to overall sound quality. Thanks again Uri!
Oh, nice brunette, she was a brunette, right? ;-)

Thank you, @michaelwright1602, for your thoughtful comment and kind words about the review! It’s great to hear about your experience with the Rivo Black and the Farad Super3 LPS. I agree, adding a high-quality power supply makes a noticeable difference, and it sounds like your setup is really dialed in!
As for Roon, so far, I’ve been quite happy using Audirvana, but I’ve noticed that Roon seems to have adjusted to more reasonable pricing recently. It’s definitely tempting, and I might give it a go. A Roon Nucleus One review sounds like a fantastic idea, pairing it with the Rivo+ would certainly be interesting. I’ll look into whether I can get my hands on one and make that happen.
Thanks for introducing me to Tonewinner as well! I hadn’t heard of that brand before, but it looks fascinating. Are their products made in Italy? I’ll definitely be checking them out.
Thanks again for the comment and for watching. Have a great weekend!

@@YuriBrus Yuri, the ToneWinner gear is made in China, they build some items for Emotiva, or used to. The two ToneWinner pieces I own, my good friend bought the same two pieces, are more or less Mark Levinson clones. My good friend has played with the Levinson gear over the years, the gear has the look, and swears it has the sound. I am surprised more folks do not know about them. The AD-1PRE+ and the AD-2PRO+. The DAC in these units is outstanding, and I am not an ESS DAC fan by any stretch. They really nailed it with the overall sound quality. Would love to see a review, as there are few out here. The reviews that are out here are all extremely positive.
