I grew up about a 1/4 mile from the Gatun locks where my father worked in the control room as the Lockmaster. He helped design the locomotives, built by Mitsubishi, that pull the ships through the locks, which are called Mules. The original mules built by GE were in service from 1914 to 1964. We lived on a hill over looking the locks and the channel leading up to it from the Caribbean. Left when I was 19. It was a great place to grow up. Enjoy your transit.
@@TheJennyBShow - Yes, it was a pretty special place to grow up. There's a big reunion for those who worked or grew up there every 4th of July weekend and about 3,000 people show up. I'll be going this year as it's also my class reunion.
Thanks soooooo much for taking us through the Panama Canal. I’m 76 years old and have always wanted to make this trip. So thanks for taking me along and checking one off on my bucket list.
Just a bit of trivia: The grandmother of a friend of mine was a nurse who worked there as the canal was being built. She would tell us kids about walklng down the hill and across the ditch to get to the side where the workers were housed. It was a real chore getting up the other side. But it was worth it for the dances they would hold regularly! Apparently more than one marriage resulted, no surprise.
High temperature + humidity = paradise! Well…maybe not for most people. It was a most remarkable endeavor to complete the Canal, and one only has to go through the Canal to realize the magnitude, vision and sacrifice it took to complete the project. Great coverage, Tony, as you and Jenny go CAROOOZING through the Panama Canal.
Thanks Tony for the memories of the entire adventure through the locks. We did this 6 yrs ago and today was like being there. We are going through again in Nov on our way to South America with Holland America. Now we are even more excited to see this incredible mechanical marvel. We appreciate all your time today.
So amazing to see you guys all together. Nice! It was raining but rain is beautiful when there is a strong bond of friendship...specially on a cruise.Thx for sharing.
I feel so famous being in your live stream as the only one out there in the rain. LOL. I have some great Tony narration on my videos. Loved this cruise, met lots of very nice people. Made some great memories.
Modern Marvels has shows on building both the old and new Canals. Very informative. Cost of going through the new Canal is between 500,000 and 1,000,000. We did a Panama Canal cruise in January of 2020. We took an excursion to the Pacific side, went through the two Pacific locks, into Lake Gatun, and back to our ship. January 2023 we have another Canal cruise, on Celebrity's Edge, and it does a partial transit. Not sure I'll ever get DH on a 16-night cruise for anywhere. Have a great time. Love your show.
First time I went thru the Canal I stood in awe for 3 hours...the second time I watched from my Veranda and caught the sun...the third I stayed inside in the wonderful air conditioning. Once you’ve seen it, you’ve seen it!
Thank you Tony, Jenny B & Don for all the memories of a great trip! Island Princess Panama Canal Historic Locks April 27 - May 11, 2022, Ft Lauderdale to LA. Great trip!
Thanks for taking us with you. I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I know you were hesitant, but I had great confidence you would love the engineering. We doing full transit east to west next February. (The opposite of our trip in 2019!) Best cruise ever!!🛳
This brings back memories from several years ago on Azamara Journey. So many things to take in. I loved watching cars driving across the loch, and appearing to disappear below the water line as they crossed. Enjoy the rest of the trip. Xxx
So cool view. I've been to Panama several times. Going again next week, because I'm moving there in 2023. Never been through the locks on a cruise. When I retired next year, I hope to sail with you and Jenny.
We've been through the Canal three times--once from LA to New Orleans on NCL, then twice on the same cruise on the Island Princess, which was from LA into Gatun Lake where we stayed overnight at anchor, turned around and traversed the Canal a second time, everything except the Gatun locks.
When on a cruise with terrible wifi I discovered that I could read the transcript of your show and stay caught up with your posts. (Celebrity Millennium was almost as good as old dial-up connections.)
I’m sorry it’s raining. At least you’re under cover. My husband and I did this cruise round trip on the Zuiderdam in January and February of this year. It’s so fascinating to see how the locks work. Enjoy!
I'm surprised that there are not more ships going through with you, I have been through the canal twice and each time there were ships right in front of us and constantly seeing ships coming back the other way.
I have taken teenagers on many Princess cruises. My boys started at age 5 and are became Platinum Captain Circle members by the time they were 18. They really enjoyed the facilities and programs onboard Princess ships for kids/teens. They both also used the basketball court for hours each day to keep their skills sharp because they played on year-round basketball teams.
Have you ever been to Rio de Janerio? You mentionned that Cartagena reminded you of Cuba. Although Cartagena is similar to old Havana, Cartagena reminded me more of Rio. I spent a week in Cartagena many years ago, and it reminded me so much of Rio, but much more affordable
@@LaLidoLoca Absolutely, and not only for Panama. Your possible stops anywhere along Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala--we got absolutely rained out in Nicaragua on a tour.
This is interesting to watch. I've been on 7 cruises. When they started the covid shots that stopped me from cruising. Do you think they will stop making people from having to have the shot to beable to cruise. I really enjoy your lives

We went through the locks in March. It is a great experience. We had done a similar cruise in 2019! Enjoy
Yes, loved that cruise. Had breakfast on our balcony while going thru the locks. That was amazing!!
Yes we went thru in Feb and it was hot, Bridge of Americas is cool !
Thanks Tony from Winter Haven. That is on my bucket list now.
Definitely time lapse needed

I was born in the canal zone. My dad was in the army and we were stationed there.
Do you remember the rotten egg smell?

The history of the making of the canal and all the men who built it is fascinating.
Thanks for taking us on a 3 hour cruise 🛳. Really neat.

Man Tony this was so great, keep up the good work 👏
Thanks for the live stream! I joined late and backed it up to the beginning so I could watch the whole transit.
Hey Tony.
Thanks for the show. It took 19 years to built the canal. 25,000 people died building.
Have a Great rest of you Cruise...
Went there several years ago on a Cruise excursion , they put us on a ferry boat. Had a good time!!
Omg. Seriously love the ship coming through next to you. Wow.
Love it, we did the Panama Canal old locks in 2019 in the Coral Princess, from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco, we loved it!
Thank you so much for sharing this! Now I want to go!
Most amazing site, when we did the Panama Canal, 2 years ago, this was one of my bucket lists, checked off. Hope you enjoyed the locks
Thanks for sharing

This is the best cruise. It is my favorite.

Watched the whole thing, but only part live! Thanks 😊
Great to see, thank you for sharing with us, feels like we are there with you, Cheers from Cheryl and Phil Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
Watching the replay. This is great!
Fun times!
Cool
Got. To do old locks. But. Fun thing. About. New. Locks. When. Closed. They. Use. Then. As a toll road

Wish I was there with you guys! My grandfather worked there building the locks.
We r going thru the lake now. It is so beautiful
We went through many years go and the sun was blazing. It was very hot and swampy. Good that its overcast for you!
Amazing!! I enjoyed this! Thank you!
Loved it !!!!!!
Did the Panama trip on the Island Princess a couple of years ago...great cruise..it was raining then also...looks like some things never change..
Hello Tony Jenn and Don all the way from western new york. Planning a panama canal cruise with family soon.
I'm surprised that there are not more ships going through with you, I have been through the canal twice and each time there were ships right in front of us and constantly seeing ships coming back the other way.
We went through the old locks in 2010 and loved it. In 2023 we are going on a Panama Canal cruise again. This time we are going the new licks.
Love panama canal
Love our tour thru the first set of locks ... in 2020 just before Evil Covid ...
Bridge Over Troubled Water.........I’m going to lay down.
This is great… might watch the whole thing. Hee hee
The Bridge of the Americas
I stand corrected. That is on the Pacific side. This first bridge before entering the locks is the Atlantic Bridge.
Clearance on each side of the ship is 12 to 18 inches.
what is the difference between the old locks & the new locks on the Panama Canal cruise?
that looks amazing
Hello from Kissimmee
Can’t wait to board Island Princess next week for my trip through the canal. Reading “the book” now. Soooo informative!
If the Locks are that big I would love to see the key!!! Joke 😂😂😂😂😂👋🏼hi Jenny and Tony 🥰🛳⚓️🛟👍🏼💖
Thanks, Tony. This was neat. Just to let you know, most of the livestream was very blurry.

hi everyone
Would it be smart to pack a rain jacket?
Probably

Hey y'all 👋
Little late to the game...but did the itinerary just say Panama Canal? Trying to find a cruise like this.
Jenny, any idea when Panama Canal trips come out for 2024 on Royal?
Did somebody remember to unlock em?
Not 'til everyone pays their toll in quarters! 😉
TOO COOL, WHAT A TRIP. Forget Covid, what kind of vaccines do you need to be current on to do the Panama Canal?
