      Hand wash was not invented with coronavirus. The problem of not washing hands has always been prevalent in the food service industry, hence the “Employees Must Wash Hands” sign that has always been in many restaurants and the infamous Norovirus that always loves a good tourist area. It is just common.

      I really don't get it. Is it laziness? Is it a one-off or do they wash even at their homes? Is it how they were brought up - their parent's never told them as a child? Or were they told and harboured a resentment of that into adulthood so deliberately don't wash now?

    We experienced people not washing their hands going into the buffet. The staff encouraged it for a couple days but got tired of getting yelled at. My dad is one of those people who doesn’t understand the whole hand washing thing… it’s frustrating. He was the first one in our group to pick up something (fatigue and stuffy) at the end of the cruise. By the time we got home we all had the same but we were better a couple days later. My son’s school had a lot of kids testing positive the first week of school and my nephew’s school just shut down for 4 days due to too many teachers catching it … COVID is here to stay 😢

I don't go as far as masking. I plan on avoiding the elevators as much as possible. People who yell at staff for any reason, but especially for being asked to take care of basic hygiene, don't deserve to cruise. I hope they go home with a severe case of the runs.

    • @fletcherprince

      I'm going on a cruise next week and I'm masking. And gloving when I use tongs. Hand sanitizer does nothing against the stomach virus (or maybe its better than nothing. But CDC says it does not help against the norovirus). People have to wash their hands and since they don't, I'm gloving up.

    • @Calendyr
      @Calendyr Год назад +1

      @@fletcherprince Gloves are good but you have to know how to handle them. If there is a bug on something you touch with the glove, it's now on the glove... so you have to have a very precise protocol to remove the gloves and deal with them once they are off or they will not help at all. Same if you touch your face or bare arm with the gloves after tney have been exposed to what ever was on the tongs. I think the vast majority of people don't have the discipline to do that correctly, including myself. So for me, it's hand washing only.

    I just returned from NCL eastern Med cruise and on the second day guests were told that VAT tax would be added to purchases. As you know they offer free at sea deals and I normally have no balance at the end of a cruise. 20% VAT was added to every drink ordered including fountain sodas. Additionally, 10% VAT on the service charge. 10% VAT was also added to the gratuities for ship staff. This increased the cost of the gratuities by $2.00 per person per day and a drink that was included in the free at sea package was charged $3.00 VAT on the drink and .30 on the gratuity. Fountian sodas got charged .35 VAT and .07 on the gratuity. These were charged in port at France and Italy and when at sea when the casino was open. Lines at guest services were over an hour long all day every day and staff on board seemed to really have a good explanation of why this just started. Have you heard about this?

    My theory for people not washing their hands is that it's not mandated before meals at US schools. One of the most shocking things for me coming from China to the US during my elementary school years was that you were not required to wash your hands before meals AND that there are no handwashing stations on stairwell landings. We had big sinks on the landing floors of one main stairwell to allow for handwashing after PE and before lunch without having to clog up the bathroom. We all lined up at one of the 5 or 6 faucets and it happens so fast. In the US, not only are students not expected to clean their hands before meals, they're also not usually expected to clean up their tables after lunch or sweep their classrooms at the end of the school day. People often say that kindness is free but maybe the reason people are kind and not considerate is because consideration takes that bit of extra effort few want to put in.

He was heading north for a funeral and met up with several friends in Atlanta which I'm sure made the 8 hour wait easier. Tony people are just gross not washing their hands and coughing without covering their mouths. We were careful last cruise and I still got Covid. My husband was fine though, strange isnt it?! Anyway, I'll still cruise again. Going again this November. Covid isn't going away.

      Washing hands is best. But when in the restroom notice where the soap dispensers are usually placed, often the paper towels too. Behind the sinks on the wall. If you are petite or disabled (as in a wheelchair) you can’t reach the soap. Some women offer to reach me some paper towels, I thank them and mention soap. They look at me as if I’m nasty and leave. Until I get my electric chair I have to turn my wheels by hand. I use hand sanitizer when I get out. Hoping for the best. I’m not gross. Designers are gross.

    I went on Wonder of the Seas at the start of Sept. There were 12 total medical emergencies in a 7-day cruise, and more than half the Facebook group said they got sick. I also got sick with Covid AND strep. Woo. Lucky winner, I. But I didn't present until the second-half of the last day.

      Why are we all getting sick at the end of a 7 day cruise? I wonder if being stuck in those packed airport security lines is contributing? Also holding handrails to avoid falling could be something I didn’t consider. New booster was not available before our cruise. Not sure extra hand washing at the Buffett will take take off it.

    We always have issues with Newark Airport. Every flight we have flown into or out of there we have had issues with delays and being worried about connections since 2019. Once we sat on the plane for over 4 hours waiting to take off due to a ground stoppage due to lightening. The one trip that we went through Washington instead of Newark was completely flawless and that was in 2022 at the height of all the craziness of lost luggage, flight delays, and cancellations in airports around the world. My husband and our niece now both say no more to flying through Newark.

After that day nobody was posted and more Thant 2/3's just walked right by the hand washing stations. Another reason that was my first and last cruise. Cruising is like being stuck in Walmart for a week. 😝

    Hey Tony :) I’m so glad to hear that Princess are treating their passengers with covid better than they did last year! I was on the Ruby on an anniversary cruise (delayed because of covid it’s a leap year wedding anniversary- so a bit special) and we did Alaska (on my bucket list!) we were on the ship 3 days out of San Francisco, caught covid in the ship 😭didn’t see any of Alaska, but the worse thing was the way we were treated confined to our rooms (we were both really bad with it) we could only eat off the room service menu and we had to wait 2-3 hours for our food to be delivered - it was always cold and congealed 😭and whoever we had to speak to to ask for it made us feel we were a nuisance ‘we haven’t got time now for this’ . We also had to change our international flights plus local flights and book a hotel to stay an extra night isolation in San Francisco- all the time they kept telling us you will be able to claim from Princess, which we found we couldn’t. Also where they took us all off the ship separately, they just left us on the quayside 🥺we got no compensation from Princess except a small amount of money off another cruise (a disgrace after the amount we paid for the original cruise!) if you think I can get my husband on another cruise in his life - he would rather be fed to the sharks! So I’m glad they are now looking after the guests !

    I was on the Caribbean Princess the cruise before yours (Sept 9-19, we lost 3 ports due to hurricane Lee) There were numerous cabins with the tables in front of the doors. During the last show in the Princess Theatre there were a lot of people coughing. It wasn't just one or two with persistent coughs, it was over 10 different people coughing.

    Yes you could cruise in a zombie apocalypse. But you would have to be already on the ship when it happened. You would have to grow your own food and do scavenging parties when you docked (for fuel, medicine & food).
