What do you do to the small handful of students that will not stop talking after they have responded to the protocol? Sometimes I will get everyone's attention but once in a while a couple of students will start talking after 15 seconds that I start to speak.

When I'm teaching swimming saying their names and then "LISTENING" works 💯 not creative at all 😂 but I'm just putting it out there.

You go and touch their shoulder, so they turn back to you and you show "shush" with your finger on your mouth. If the teacher keeps quiet, it is easier to keep the children quiet, too. Or you stand in front of the class with your arms crossed and a big smile... The other kids will see you are waiting and will tell them themselves :" shush!". This also helps to preserve your vocal cords because shouting is always bad for yourself.

@@joa843 Sounds like it's time for us to step up and make the world a better place, then ^^
Btw, I think it's the opposite. Motivating kids to pay attention and learn will only make them more ready for the challenges ahead.
I mean, what is the alternative? Getting them accustomed to being yelled at and ordered around to pay attention? Having them grow up thinking that's normal? No thank you, I'd rather live in a world where future generations don't get cross-generational trauma, and instead learn patience, compassion and understanding by learning from examples such as teachers like this

Thank you for all you do! Teachers are amazing people with patience, love, creativity, and so much more! I subbed for two kindergarten classes this week. I didn’t have an IA in one class and the students listened much better than in the one where I had two IA’s throughout the day. I find that they seem to stop briefly when I try one of your methods, but then some of them go back to misbehaving quickly. How do I manage this?
