    wtf is a credit score? How are Americans getting their identities stolen? That is unheard of here. Why does a 20 year old kid have debts to repay? Why is it normal for Americans to own credit cards?

    • @thatweirdblackgirl4259
      @thatweirdblackgirl4259 Год назад +27

      It is a determination of how well you pay back borrowed money; people can steal social security numbers/banking info; we have to pay for schooling and that is the easiest way to gain a fuck ton of debt (its also easy to owe a ton of debt because of medical bills); we have to owe someone money at all times because capitalism, therefore credit cards

    • @EC-oe9bv
      @EC-oe9bv Год назад +23

      A credit score is a numerical metric derived from several factors, including length of credit history, number of accounts, total debt, missed monthly payments, percentage of credit utilization, etc. Essentially, it is a score for how good you are to lend money to.
      Identities can be stolen via gathering information online, on familial fraud in the case of one person (her mom opened credit card account in her daughters name).
      A 20 year old might have car payments, student loans, unpaid credit card debt, any number of things.
      Having a credit card is almost universal in the US at this point. The primary reason people get them initially is to establish that credit history as soon as possible. The longer credit history you have, the better your score is, and the easier it will be to get larger loans in the future (business loans, mortgages, etc)

She was reporting some people got refused credit line despite making $150K per year, never missed a payment in their life and essentially debt free. Their scores were in the "Good" zone but not "Excellent" all because of stuff like they had no mortgage to their name or car loan. Also, credit scores usually varies greatly from month to month and depending which agency you use (Equifax or Transunion). It's just dumb and we should stop using it.

    • @arianam6430
      @arianam6430 Год назад +7

      Don't just get a credit card with no plan. You have to know what you're doing. The way cc companies make money is from high interest rates on the balance. If you get a cc, make sure it has the lowest interest rate you can get. If not, only use it for small purchases you can pay with in cash right away. So like, a cup of coffee. It has to be within your budget. That way, once you pay for the product, you go and pay off the balance right away. People go into cc debt superrrrr quick by making purchases/balances they can't pay off right away, coupled with incredibly high interest rates (20-25%). Then it turns into a huge cyclical problem that will be super hard to dig yourself out of. That's the first tip.

    • @arianam6430
      @arianam6430 Год назад +4

      Once you get a good understanding of how to manage one cc properly, get more. So take a year with one credit card. Use it wisely and within your means. Then apply for a new card. That increases your limit. Credit is a history of how you use money. Part of that is your debt ratio. If you have one cc with a $1000 limit and you're utilizing only 3% of that really well, it looks good. If you have a $2000 or $4000 limit, the precentage that you're utilizing will decrease, and it looks even better. Increasing your limit while keeping the utilization low is ideal. You don't want utilization at 0% for an extended period of time- the cc company may think the card is lost and deactivate the account. Which will hurt your credit.
      *note. Since your credit history is brand new, hard inquiries while applying for cc's will affect your score. But hard inquiries only last for about 2-3 years. So slowly applying for cc's will hurt your credit at first, but maintaining the accounts properly, while increasing your spending limits and adding more accounts will benefit your credit in the long run after the inquiries eventually expire.
