The lever should have 2 “positions” for up: up, and manually up a little bit more for that cold start. Your tension appears wrong, so perhaps why you’re having start issues. But yes, they are a pig to start cold.

Whilst recording the video, the cable came out of its housing which is why the tension looks messed up. So I just “acted” for the rest of the video lol. To anyone reading this with a floppy lever make sure it’s seated in the guide. But great catch man, I wouldn’t have noticed that In video.

      @@hogridahmotos Hahaha thanks!
“Floppy lever” I’m sure there is a pill for that ;)

When it's really cold, I pull the clutch even though I'm in neutral. Because it always grinds a little.
You could also install a time-controlled "release relay". This means that the headlights are only switched on after a few seconds. This is adjustable.

That lever isn't just a fast idle, it's also a mixture enrichment device. The BMW has an open loop EFI system, which cannot accommodate the enrichment needed for a cold start. So one has to manually introduce extra fuel at cold start.

Have cranked mine at -20C, never used that flier. However, you are right otherwise.

Your starter motor needs attention ! Btw , I NEVER , not even at -20 C° use the coldstart , but I do select the clutch handle for easy cranking.

    Hi! Thanks for the explanation!
I noticed just after the motorcycle started, it seems like a noise (looks like something scraping), which then disappears…
Mine also makes that noise, do you know what it is?

It could be several things, but if it goes away almost immediately it’s probably your starter. I have an 1150 GS common mechanical problems video that explains this issue further on the channel if you wanna check that out.

I gave the issue a little research. Supposedly it’s a common issue. So it’s electrical obviously, and electrical gets real complicated real quick, so I’ll spare you the details of why exactly I think the light is not turning off, and just tell you what to do. Firstly try replacing your battery, could be symptomatic of a dying battery. Second thing you could do, is nothing, riders who have this issue on forums have said they just don’t worry about it, or you can take it into a good mechanic, because it’s not great to have electrical issues.

Quite common on these machines, nothing to worry about except if if does not go out😉

Mine does that too. Battery warming always goes off after revving it up once. The alternator begins working above 1500 rpm. Its a common 1150 thing.

If you have the correct oil for the temperature range you’re riding in, and you’re using the idle adjustment, and it’s still not idling properly then you’re beyond my expertise. If you’re handy try some easy things first like air filter, spark plugs etc, but beyond that I’d go to a mechanic.

Down voted because Clickbait: "don't use this". And then proceeds to teach me how to use something I totally already knew (And miss the second position as mentioned by Richard below).
