Lyrics
when the world has gone mad and there's nowhere to roam
the lights are all on but nobody's home
there comes a time when you look up to the sky
and ask why do my favorite songs always make me cry
and am I losing my sanity
my sanity I've nothing to lose so please let me be
I've got a firm grip and strong roots like a tree burrowed deep in reality
I won't let you go What else can there be you're all I have
when you swore to be true our bed was belief
but alternative facts snuck in like a thief
There comes a time to release the cord of self
and with confidence declare your state of perfect mental health
never doubting my sanity
my sanity I've nothing to lose so please let me be
my life is a song a short melody harmonizing with reality
I've got it real bad there's no remedy you're all I have
my dear sanity
sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
oh my sanity my sanity I've nothing to lose so please let me be
my life is a song a short melody harmonizing with reality
I've got it real bad there's no remedy my world picture is exemplary
I won't let you go what else can there be you're all I have
my dear sanity

There is something about the way bad religion structure their music and lyrics that hits me on a deeply emotional level. As a young punk rocker 37 year's ago or now as a 52yr old it's the same feeling.
30-years-old and no worries, you're not alone. It hurts how hard it all hits. For me, it hurts in _very_ real ways.
Wwx Ware awesome dude, awesome. And thank you 🤘🏽
this song straight up brought me to tears. Im struggling with my mental health lately and it hit me really hard. Beautiful. Loved this band since the early 90s.
@@DannoKrueger420 It's a very _real_ song. It covers a topic that is very, intensely scary; the idea of losing your mind. It's especially frightening when, like a lot of us, our minds feel like all we have left to lose.
Trust Bad Religion to give such a thing a great sound.
amen to that. 41 and counting over here...
PERFECT
Loudwire YOU TOO!
Heck yeah it is! You should do an interview with Bad Brains!
yeah
Loudwire itself!
Yes, this is the RIGHT way to punk-rock! No bullshit pop fills!
This mans voice ages like fine wine.
This song saved me when I was alone depressed and homeless
Stay strong, yo. Troll those asses.
Solidarity, my friend.
I feel the same bro
I'm glad you made it :)
Sanity is a full time job in a world that’s always changing. 😏
Sanity seems so important to them ... Inspiring them in 1989 and almost 30 years later ... Has anything really changed in a world so far? Or it's just a lack of imagination ...
agree
My Sanity is
Oh how i love no control
@@carltoeski Great album
When Bad Religion releases a song, if its 2 minute long you know its going to be hardcore, if its 3 minutes you know its a melodic one.
Nacho Torres never really put that together but it make perfect sense
Really? That is an absurd assessment. They have over 300 songs now. What, you think ‘beyond electric dreams’ is mediocre? That’s just one of many examples that nullifies your belief.
@@bpogueg2 Mediocre? I said MELODIC, and it was just a random comment, i know it doesnt apply to all of their songs man, chill 😂
Nacho Torres my bad, I was kind of drunk and didn’t read your post thoroughly. Sorry man.
@@bpogueg2 Beyond electric dreams deserves such fierce defense though, that song is an absolute masterpiece.
This sounds like new and old Bad Religion mixed together. I like this!
I agree.
Throwback to recipe for hate!!!
Men, this is okay. Profane rights of man blows this out of the water though IMO. I thought even The Kids are Alt Right sounded better.
With deep regret, this sounds like nothing before grey race...when everything changed. Love br till the day I die, but go back to how could hell, suffer, no control, gen and even grain before ppl cared about who br was.
Really like the song, but it sounds a little too "clean" imo. A bit too polished. It could sound a little more raw like the earlier stuff. Then it would be perfect
"There comes a time when you look up to the sky and ask 'Why do my favorite songs always make me cry?'" - leave it to Greg and the guys to hit close to home.
Another Bad Religion quote that will be with me until the day I die.
It becomes more and more true as I get older.
"my life is a song a short melody harmonizing with reality"
ya this one got me
Son mi sanidad
Like wine ladies and gentleman, the older the better!
I present you, the best punk rock band of all times! Bad Religion!
lol, this statement is so false, bad religion was WAY BETTER in their earlier days. I might agree, they are the best punk rock bad though.
Tied with The Descendents
to me, it kinda sounds like they dont know what kinda music tbey wanna make these days. they wore out punk rock and are too old to be sufficiently angry.
@@jasonarchdeacon3501 hate to say it, but you are probably right....
so much opportunity to manifest anger these days with current politics, but bad religion lays low
AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!
"...And ask why do my favourite songs always make me cry?"
THIS IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THEM 😭❤️
These are the kinds of songs that really turned me on to punk rock in general, and that Bad Religion has historically done better than anyone else. Those songs that, while remaining definitively punk rock, manage to convey this hopeful emotion that means more than just rebellion and hatred. It's uplifting in a way that this song, Fields of Mars, and a couple other absolutely nail.
well said!
Totally agree. That's the quality that drew me to them in the first place as well. Although many of their songs talk of pitfalls of life they don't leave you with nihilistic, desperate feelings but rather with positive acceptance (not passive), understanding, and a kind of take-it-on-the-chin, inspirational attitude. Loving this one.
For a punk song fields of mars was absolutely beautiful. I mean dont get me wrong fast gnarly punk songs are equally as beautiful but in a different way.
Thank you
Also Face to Face
Damn, Bad Religion songs hit harder than they should be allowed to. So good.

Thanks, this one musst be pinned as top comment!
thnx for the lyrics!
The lyrics are in desc
I thought it was "court of self"
Favorite line is definitely, "Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism"
When he says "FOR OPTIMISM" I always raise my arm and make a fist and yell it out loud 😅😎
I wanna cry, I love it!

Same ;)
Melody kings, man! Just beautiful!
Amazing song about the importance of mental health....well sung
It's a hard topic to touch on, but hey, that's pretty much what Bad Religion does.
I love how Gregg's voice never change through the time
It’s so good. Can’t wait for the album. And the tour. 25 years ago I saw my first BR show and it seems like yesterday. I’ll be bringing my 14-year-old daughter this time.
I hope to see them before I croak. I've got a jacket with a patch from every one of my favorite band I've seen live, and I got a spot ready for bad religion.
@@drdoodoo282 That's Cool. They put on a Hell of a Show!!
There so amazing live! The first time I saw them was in 2009. I actually was bullshitting with Justin sane from anti flag the whole show. I wish warped tour never changed for the worse.
Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism....Thank you Greg for soeaking what I feel
The most important band to ever walk the planet.
バッレリの曲を聞くと懐かしい気持ちになって自分の原点に戻れる気がする。なんか涙がでるな。明日も仕事頑張れる!Thank U!
Sorrow, Live Again (The Fall of Man), Honest Goodbye, Cyanide, Dept of False Hope, and My Sanity are the Bad Religion anthems of each of their respective 21st century albums. Bad Religion is amazing.
Honest goodbye may be my favorite song they've ever done
Good song. Bad Religion back to their best.
Love it wow!!!
" Why do my favorite songs always make me cry? "
This song make me wanna cry.. :D
You know, with how the world is right now. This song just fits so perfectly
I have been a die hard Bad Religion fan for 27 years now. At 40 years old, I still get emotional when a new song or album comes out. Don't ever retire Greg.
His voice. Paired with chords that are arranged in a way that brings goose bumps to your entire body. The subject that is on the table. Serious and at times a reality for some if not all of us. Loosing your mind. This song can bring me to tears yet I'm still screaming the chorus loud as hell and those tears feel so good. The song ends and I start it over to cry more and get it out. This song and the song "Sorrow " "Father can you hear me? Have have I let you down? I curse the day that I was born... And all the sorrow in this world...." from Job in the bible but to myself has a different meaning. I cry and upon reaching my destination because my vehicle is where it sounds the best I feel lighter. I'm not angry. I'm at peace. That is therapy and it works. Thank you guys for speaking to my soul. I'm 42 and live with guilt, the death of my identical twin brother who died in my arms. Divorce with a 9 year old son who deserved a full childhood. I live in a bubble of guilt and pain but I do the best I can and I will continue to until I am called on to the next level of existence. Bad Religion, thank you. Thank you for keeping me focused through this pain
A great song! Been listening Bad Religion for >30 years and I am still amazed about the quality of the new songs, lyrics, singing and how well the band plays.
This song and "Sorrow" are my life soundtrack right now.
Best gift I could've received today. Great song
Man this song speaks a lot of truth.
This is a great tune. Brings back that good old BR feeling
You can't always tell where your mind's going to go. It's scary and it's very, _very_ real how it all works out. The mind is both very powerful and incredibly delicate, capable of great things and also the harshest failures.
As a guy with mental issues, this is just a fantastic fucking song. Sing it, Greg.
Bad Religion is the music that made me the man I am today.
39 years later, and, still going strong.
I consider this to be one of B.R. greatest songs ever.
Sanity will be restored BR is amazing and we are waking up.
this song just stuck in my head.... BR for life!!!

[Verse 1]
When the world has gone mad
And there's nowhere to roam
The lights are all on
But nobody’s home
There comes a time
When you look up to the sky
And ask, "Why do my favorite songs
Always make me cry?"
[Pre-Chorus]
And am I losing

I've nothing to lose, so please let me be
I've got a firm grip and strong roots like a tree
Burrowed deep in reality
I won’t let you go, what else can there be?
You're all I have
[Verse 2]
When you swore to be true (Ooh, ooh)
Our bed was belief
But alternative facts
Snuck in like a thief
There comes a time
To release the cord of self
And with confidence, declare your state of
Perfect mental health

I did cry... Got to love your Sanity
Thank you for such a great song. I woke up to my step grandfather passed on November 1st of this year and when I heard this for the first time on KROQ it put me to tears. He had dementia bad but he went in his sleep. This song gave me tears of joy and sorrow. Thank you again! RIP Dale Buller, say to Stan for me
I'm sorry for your loss. Similar things came to mind concerning my father when I first heard this song. Happy to say, however, that I took him to several BR shows back in the day.
Bad Religion fantástico como sempre!!!! Banda foooodaaaaaa

This is the bad religion I love, this song has restored my believe in bad religions ability to put out great music.
This songs already a nostalgia for me

My sanity is barely holding on waiting for a new album
Cant rush perfection
Thank you bad religion for this new album!
la voz de greg lo es todo!
se agradece muchísimo que siga manteniéndose en su tono!
It’s been almost 40 years and bad religion are still making amazing music. True talent. That’s why they’re my favorite punk band alongside Green Day. They are punk too don’t even start with me.
This song sends chills down my spine, in a good way of course.
Keep up the good work Bad Religion, we love you.
The Best band on this earth is back !
これこそ至高のメロコア‼
Fuck this song is amazing. Bad Religion are literally one of the best bands of all time.
one of the ONLY 80s punkbands that never quit
"One of the only"? That doesn't make sense.

Bad Religion made way for so many punk bands they toured with and have given back by opening for new bands today. We saw them open for Rise Against who used to open for Bad Religion. Bad Religion was a no frills, no gimmick stage show that still rocked the house with ease and could have headlined. Still an amazing band.
Sanity is relative to the situation. You people deserve everything you get.
It's been almost 25 years I've listened to you guys. Thank you for being a compass for a lot of us.
Something about this song... I always have to listen to it twice (at least).
One of their best releases....... Mix of oldschool and a newer vibe.... Awesome!!!

Fantastic, this is my favorite song of the new bunch!
Great SONG of course I would expect nothing less from Bad Religion.
Bad religion, the best!!
This is a masterpiece fucking proof that greatness has longevity long live bad religion love you guys
the best band ever. period.
Reason in life never lies with yourself, but with everyone else. my reason is to be where others never were. free and the same applies to what my eyes have seen, the undergrowth is hamburg, every day in life to understand the no gate of the world when you are free and expect nothing more from anyone. Free spirit of the world .
Legit! Let the countdown to May 3rd begin! Good to know that they can still play as fast as they did 30 years ago. Chaos from Within is also a fantastic song. Finally I'll get to update my "Cardio" playlist with the new record lol.
Sanity is freaking awesome !!! thanks for that!
Best punk rock band in the world!
The timing on this dropping is fucking crazy with all the shit happening in my life over the last two weeks.

Instant classic! Bad Religion is back!
I remember looking at the Stranger Than Fiction cover in middle school, & thinking that they were “old” (aka The Enemy). Now I’m “Old” and it’s not that cool. ….all those warm coochies I’ll never get to taste 🙈
Sounds great. Can't wait for more to come.
Loving the three latest songs. I hope they make their way into a potential new Bad Religion album!

Your my sanity bad religion.i love you guys...
Best BR song I've heard in a long time (which is about this song, not prior records).
Makes me worried about the guy's health.
I'm in love with BR since the summer of my 16th year (1991), when the thought-provoking lyrics, the guitar riffs, the powerful drumming and the thrilling vocal harmonies of Suffer, No Control & Generator started to be part of my life.
You played "suffer" in its entirety in denver this year fucking fantastic
I can relate to the picture on the eyeball thing, so this song made me tear up a little. Thanks Bad Religion
