- In 1998, in the Kingdom of Tonga, two Royal Kava ceremonies took place which were presided over by His Majesty King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV. Never before were cameras permitted at these ancient, traditional ceremonies ~ I directed this program in collaboration with Dr. Eric Shumway and Dr. Vernice Wineera from the Pacific Institute of BYU-Hawaii. Enjoy witnessing a remarkable Polynesian event filled with symbolism and majesty from a bygone era.
So proud of our Tongan heritage!!! We Tongan have such strong roots and i truly pray that the younger generation will not abandon our rich and gifted culture! We are truly blessed as a people and have so much to share with world.

Please never loose the Monarchy !! Out of the Pacific Islands Tonga is the only Kingdom left !!!

Thanks for posting. Big ups to the royal kava ceremony lesson. As an American-Tongan there are things your Tongan parents don't teach you. You have to learn it from RUclips.
Uvea are our little brother and Fiji our cousin! So yea, time has come and gone but we are definitely of Blood!!! Ofa lahi atu
@Reuben Matai yes we all blood related i love my Samoan friend ❤ like my own. But the uvea I can understand n know what they talking about. Talofalava mai Tonga.
yea, shows Tonga and Uvea's connection. Well, Uvea's ancestors are pretty much Tongan anyways. Uvea language, culture, attire, customs are the closest to Tongan culture than any other Polynesian culture. Uvea kava royal ceremony also known in Tongan as Fakapangai, is very similar how they do it. Even Lau Fiji and many parts of Fiji wear the ta'ovala due to the Tongan influence. Pretty awesome!!

They do the same kava ceremony in Fiji but its only done for the Tui Lau, the chiefly title of Tongan Prince/Fijian Chief Ma'afu.
It came from Tongan influence.. #Historycheck
Tui Lau also known as Tui Neau # king or high Chief of lau islands in fiji, is a blood lines of the Tongans monarchy.

The word Kava is Tongan... the Fijian word for kava is yongkonai.. even the name Fiji is Tongan pronounced Fishee .. the real Fijian name is Viti.
Yes because the first European explorers couldn't set foot in Fiji and learned about it from Tonga, the friendly Isles.

so if Tonga has never been colonized, how did they become "Christians"? And _why?
cine pobre I am Tongan and I am proud, BUT I would have to agree with this comment.
Max Tangi when a healthy island people subscribe to a traveling salesman's ideology of european origin -that of a white Jesus- that is spiritual colonialism, no need to claim the real estate, when you can claim the minds of a people. Amen.
lol it is obvious that you have not studied up upon Tonga.....AND that you are referring to the battle between Tonga versus those of the colonial ships that tried to conquer the south pacific. You pretty much stated the origin of colonization which is when MISSIONARIES settled into Tonga and built Christianity in the lands of our forefathers.....Please know your origin before you boldly call another a NO BRAINER......Because Colonisation came in the form of RELIGION....even happened in New Zealand.....Australia...etc......its cool to see you have a FARE- IDEA of what happened...but you obviously need to do abit more research.......My STATEMENT WAS A FACT...not my own opinion......so if you wanted.....I will throw up the reference......for the source I have is not online...but in a BOOK from our TONGAN PAST......before you go parading false facts.......PLEASE ASK YOURSELF A SIMPLE QUESTION ABOUT THE ORGIN OF TONGA......WHAT WAS THE SPIRITUALITY VIEWS THAT WE TONGANS HAD BEFORE COLONISATION SETTLED IN OUR LANDS......
hahaha.......these
OK, point taken, that influence you mention has the NZ jail population be 50% Maori. But that is another island and another discussion. I also love it when 4000 years of Maya civilization was trashed by a blond and blue-eyed messenger and today's Maya would praise a Jewish guy with a Greek name in Spanish language sermons. Amen.
***** FUNNY cause while we parade that we were not colonized.>>THE QUEEN of ENGLAND herself has a different theory. We can toss this back and forth yet my point is evident in mental and physical movement as we speak....ALL while your theory will only be a theory of ones opinion.....NO EVIDENCE OF SUCH AN INFLUENCE hahahaha LOL THESE

Kava is originated in Fiji
Research shows that Kava has various health benefits including stress relief. It is an anti-anxiety tea and provides a good tonic for the nervous system. I recently purchased it from www.kickbackwithkava.com for my mom who is often suffered from this problem. This tea also provides some minor pain relief and gives the drinker support for proper kidney function and digestion. This does not contain any caffeine.
Kava is most likely from Vanuatu. Kava is derived from earlier ancestor Piper Wichannii. Its origin is therefore most likley the same location as this ancestor, the central region northerwest of Vanuatu. The Abandoned Narcotic: Kava and Cultural Instability in Melanesia - Ron Brunton
Do we really know the origin of Kava? each country claims it to be from them but they themselves do not know of their own origins lol.
the study i quoted seemed to refer to the location mentioned. Its a reasonable assumption to make of it being the origin.scientific studies such as those done by Mr Brunton is very credible, disregarding oral histories of pacific traditions (for obvious reasons). The journey of kava from east to west is one for interested. Vanuatu started with 98 varieties, fiji got about 15-20 varieties, Tonga further out got even less (from memory about 5). The journey of food groups from Melanesia all the way to Hawaii have the same pattern
Robert L. Edgar some fijian legends claim it comes from other parts of Micronesia, like vanuatu..the word KAVA is not fijian..I dont know where its from but in Vanuatu Kava actually means bitter.
