I'm Tongan, but my last name is Samoan. A Samoan carpenter living in Vava'u building churches named my grandpa and his brothers their middle names he named actually they all have Samoan middle names I believe because my family back then to honor him for helping building the church building in their village I think it was a Methodist or Wesleyan. So my grandpa just took his first name and middle name kept it for his last name. I served an LDS mission in Fiji, so I guess I got connection all three islands.

I am full Tongan born and raised in the USA but I have a deep sense of pride and duty to my God and my people. I am the 5th great grandson of King Taufa'ahau (George) Tupou 1 and as such I have spent much time learning the customs and ceremonial purposes of my people because I will pass it too the next generation. King Tupou had a son named Prince Isileli Tupou, Isileli Tupou had a son named Viliami Lausi'i Tupou. Viliami had a son named Tevita Tausinga Tupou (disowned by the Royal family for joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Tevita had a son named Viliami Lausi'i 'O Hihifo Tausinga my Great Grandfather who raised me from infancy. Viliami had a daughter name Lesila and Lesila had my mom Telesia Laukau Unga. My name is Victor Unga and I live to make them all proud as I know they are all watching me and my posterity. The only way God will *not* protect our people is if we *do not* preserve what God has already protected for us for generations. May we always endeavor to better ourselves and those around us, to love our families and honor God with highest regard. To fight and protect our beliefs and serve those in need even unto death if God sees fit. These are the traits of one who is noble. These are the traits of a warrior. These are the traits of a Tongan. Again I repeat what the statement I made at the beginning that sits in the heart of every Tongan no matter where they are or wherever life takes them. Wow this so great I am proud to be Tongan and I am proud of our history and as the guy said there will be change and that is true, but the change that is happening now is not good for Tonga and its history. People are beginning to forget our virtues and our values. Today all they care about is Their ngatu or all the things that don't matter and when they goto church it's like the faith happens in church so it stays in church and outside of church the Tongans are very different people. I just hope that we keep our religion strong and keep our history in mind. Great video by the way!👍👍
the good Lord knew exactly what he was doing when he created George Tupou 1 ......even saying the same thing for years since I first studied Tongan History......and still to this very day .....I still believe without a doubt......he was the right man for the job.....came at the right era.....to unite his people..... so future generations will forever be grateful
Greetings from California. I see I am commenting to a comment made 5 years ago but there I something to say here. What you say is not only your opinion. Just last night I marveled again at how God raises people up for their time for His purpose. We see many examples of this in God's word and also throughout history, even to our day. Your King George is a fine example of this. Just look at his legacy which is not only to Tonga but even the world. As a sailor, a student of history, and a man who seek after Christ Jesus, I have developed a strong affinity for Tonga. I have been working to make it happen that I will soon sail to the Kingdom and fellowship with the people of Tonga. God bless you from the abundance of His grace.

I am South African and Zulu from the great Zulu King, King Dinizulu, son of Cetshwayo/Cekwa/Cengwa a Khoikhoi King, son of Mpande or Pate (ruled from Kenya - Pate and Faza Island that traded heavily with Polynesia and South pacific and Mainland Asia and Americas.). King Mpande was brother to King Dingane of Ditau or Ditonga or Dindau or Dinau, who killed his brother King Shaka to take over the throne of the Zulus. king Shaka is the most famous of our kings but I assure you, there were many more. SAMOA can be written as SAMANGO (we are called MaNGO - meaning people of NGO or Singamango - which means We are = Singa Mango = the Ngo people but Msinga is a well-known area in South Africa and Masinga are also the Masai people of the East Coast of Africa, so Samoa = Singa + Mango people = Singamoa or Samoalinga or Samoalai = Samoa Lawi or Chewa or Chagwe or Lawu or Hawu or Hawa people or Malaya or Marawa people). Lastly, we have the same clans. For instance, as a Zulu, we have the Mbau people who say they are Tsonga. Unfortunately I believe he sold Tonga to the Chinese by legalising the illegal practices of the Police minister at time who sold the Tongan passports to the Chinese and that practices becomes legal up to now.Just look at the Chinese businesses killing Tongan businesses and poisoning our people with their unregulated imported foods from China

The Tongan language sounds like the Shona and Tonga languages of Africa. This clan is called Ngwane or Zwane or Goan or Gangon or Gangoni or Kwena or Kenya or Kona or Koenai or Khanye or Kaye or Kale or Kadi or Khai or Ngai or Khali. Tongas land & soil is blessed my youngest sister, told me from the Islands ....that food and crops grows with no problems The harvest of crops is incredible...no one is really hungry at home in the Kingdom of Tonga. Even the Ocean produces more fish, crabs, squids, seashells, seaweeds, lobsters you name it. This new religion from the white man was new technology to Tonga but🤷♂️. And because of it the hierarchical system of chiefs and matapules has been lost. So this comment is just ignorant. Look at Samoa now, that's how tonga should've been like today with all the villagers and commoners still obeying the chief's and still getting their Pe'a/Malu (Samoan), Ta Vaka (Tongan). This is a rich Polynesian culture lost by the Tongan culture due to the white man's missionaries but luckily still kept by our 🇼🇸Samoan brothers to live and tell the stories of our ancestors.

i am tongan. i can attest that our strong Christian beliefs bring us together and make us happy. one can't say God or Jesus had nothing to do with that. that's like saying your parents had nothing to do with your childhood. your parents taught you and loved you. we learn God's word through scripture and personal meditation (prayer) and because His words comfort and teach us. thus, we feel love for ourselves and one another. not trying to convince you, but this is just my own personal testament.

Wow this so great I am proud to be Tongan and I am proud of our history and as the guy said there will be change and that is true, but the change that is happening now is not good for Tonga and its history. People are beginning to forget our virtues and our values. Today all they care about is Their ngatu or all the things that don't matter and when they goto church it's like the faith happens in church so it stays in church and outside of church the Tongans are very different people. Greetings from California. I see I am commenting to a comment made 5 years ago but there I something to say here. What you say is not only your opinion. Just last night I marveled again at how God raises people up for their time for His purpose. We see many examples of this in God's word and also throughout history, even to our day. Your King George is a fine example of this. Just look at his legacy which is not only to Tonga but even the world. As a sailor, a student of history, and a man who seek after Christ Jesus, I have developed a strong affinity for Tonga. I have been working to make it happen that I will soon sail to the Kingdom and fellowship with the people of Tonga. God bless you from the abundance of His grace.

I am South African and Zulu from the great Zulu King, King Dinizulu, son of Cetshwayo/Cekwa/Cengwa a Khoikhoi King, son of Mpande or Pate (ruled from Kenya - Pate and Faza Island that traded heavily with Polynesia and South pacific and Mainland Asia and Americas.). King Mpande was brother to King Dingane of Ditau or Ditonga or Dindau or Dinau, who killed his brother King Shaka to take over the throne of the Zulus. king Shaka is the most famous of our kings but I assure you, there were many more.
SAMOA can be written as SAMANGO (we are called MaNGO - meaning people of NGO or Singamango - which means We are = Singa Mango = the Ngo people but Msinga is a well-known area in South Africa and Masinga are also the Masai people of the East Coast of Africa, so Samoa = Singa + Mango people = Singamoa or Samoalinga or Samoalai = Samoa Lawi or Chewa or Chagwe or Lawu or Hawu or Hawa people or Malaya or Marawa people). Lastly, we have the same clans. For instance, as a Zulu, we have the Mbau people who say they are Tsonga. We also have Mbua or Pua or Sibuya which is the same as Sibiya or Nambya or Biya or Vijayanagar people. Also called Bila, Bani or Mabhena - a Senior house in the Nala house as explained above.
You also sing the same way we do. And build houses the same way and have traditional dress the same way as the NGO people and Zimbabweans or Bukalanga people.
You will not find this in any history book, because we are better off to the oppressor separated. Black is black, whether you have staight hair (many Africans do have straight hair) or not or whether you are light-skinned (many Africans are from an ancient mix) or dark-skinned. Zulu knows Zulu. Children of Heaven known Children of Heaven know it when they see it.
Lastly, Africans are actually from Asia - that is why it is called Asani = Asia = Azania (what the freedom fighters called South Africa) and Azwane = Azagwe = Azingelwa = Azela = Abia = Vijayanagar Indians.

Here in Tonga, I have a crop of sweet potatoes and taro, a few pigs and a few chickens. I do not have a lot of money. But I will not trade that to the so-called modern civilization and the welfare assistance you live on. I am my own welfare not the government or the crooked UN.

The Tongan language sounds like the Shona and Tonga languages of Africa. Africa is made of 3 tribes of Bantus or Bantungwa or Batokhua or BaTonga or BaNdau or BaTau, namely: Tongans/Ludvonga/Luboka/Lubuka/Ndonga or Ndao or Ndau or Mudau or Ndawo or Nyawo or Ndyawo = Zeila or Zeroua = Zingelwa (a clan of the Biya people).
This clan is called Ngwane or Zwane or Goan or Gangon or Gangoni or Kwena or Kenya or Kona or Koenai or Khanye or Kaye or Kale or Kadi or Khai or Ngai or Khali. This also goes by the name Guni or Nguni or or Tshukuni or Jugun (Nigerian Bantu) or Djukun (New Zealand aborigines) or Ngoni or Kweny or Ngweni or Ngo people, where the word CONGO comes from. These are all coastal - sailors, fishers and operated mostly from the East Coast where they are known as Southeastern Bantu. A lot of Africans are great sailors and we even had our own boats - made of straw called Isilulu like the Thai-Vietnamese, Mthephe (a long-distance boat used to trade with China with one documented voyage, at least and dinghies and canoes - still in use by the Rewa or Tonga Lela or Bafokeng Ba Sekete BaLewaNika/Rewanai/Langenyika in the Zambezi in Zambia - the main Zulu tribe there. These are countries that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the BIYA people are the most populous people in the world: Libya/Libani, Gambia/Gambani, Zambia/Zambani, Mozambikhwe/Mozambueli or Mzambonkosi (Eli = Nkosi = The Lord as in the Bible = Cos, a tribe of Abia, Aaronites in the Bible), therefore = Mzambobia or Mzambokhua/Mzambonga = Mzambao = MzaMBAU like the Mbau of the Tongans. Zwane or Zwange or Zane or Zela or Zerwa or Zeroua or Zingelwa or Zingelwayo as it is called in the land of Thethwa or Thetha people of the Zulus of South Africa, where I live.
The 2nd clan is called Sela or Ndlela or Selai or Sele or OSele. We pronounce S's as Hl and Dl and Z and just the vowels only. This means river. Older. Also called Mbele or Mbeje. This is the original clan before the twins. Also called Thia or Mthaniya or Mthiyane or Nsele or Seleni. they call themselves: Ocean who does not cross, it is crossed only by the birds of the Zulus/heavens. The birds are called Nzimakwe or Zimbabwe or Zimangele or Nzwakele. You can also say Shela or Shelam or Selam or Salem or Shalem or Sengam or Shengam etc.
The last clan is called Shabalala or Saba or Sabane or Sambane or Sabela or Sabewa or Sabeya or Sabange or Shabange or Shabangwe or Shabango or Sabia or Sabi or Savi or Shabi or Sheba. The are also called Malai or Malay or Mayan. We also called it Chewa or Chagwe. These stay in the highlands mostly. Twin. We call them Phezulu = high up people. You will find many of these in Indonesia and Malaysia as well as Mainland Asia, America and of course, Africa.
The super clan (consisting of all 3) is called Zulu or Julu or Turu or Tolo or Zolo or Bia or Vijayanagar or Bia Nyanga or Bia Nganga or Bia Ngala Indians or Nthia or Boli = Buck. Zulu means People of the Heaven. It is also called Nge/Mbo/Nkosi or Mambo/Ngwe/Nkosi or Oto-Khua/Tonga = Okhuesan or Okhuelesan + eMbu + Esan (as they are called in Biafra, Nigeria).
We also have the Sithole or Jobe people who are said to come from Maphitha or Maphaitha or Maphatha which we also call Maphanda or Mpanda or
Not all Africans are dark-skinned, Some of us have asiatic features and very light skin and we did not mix with Europeans.
I also think, Polynesia = Poli + Ne/Nwe/Ngwe + Shiya/Shani/Sani people. This equates to Poli = Phuthi = Bouti = Mbuti or Tembuti or Tembuzi = Bodi = Mbo = Mboi = Mboli = Buck or Deer = very fast buck = Boi, these people are also called Naidoo or Nyandu or Jada or Tshada or Tyda or Dladla or Njanja or Ganga people - we exist in India, China, Phillipines, Malaysia, All Asia, Midle East, America - South America is more than half African descent and North America has at least 45 million not counting polynesians. Nwe comes earliest from my clan = Ngwe or Ngo = Leopard clan and as Bgwe = Tshe = Je = Joe = Stone clan - same thing.
The last clan Shiya is the clan called Shani - consisting of Barolong/Maholong or Holo or Khulu people or Thia or Nthia or Cariathiarim or deer people. They are also called Esan in Nigeria.

The harvest of crops is incredible...no one is really hungry at home in the Kingdom of Tonga.

Look at Samoa now, that's how tonga should've been like today with all the villagers and commoners still obeying the chief's and still getting their Pe'a/Malu (Samoan), Ta Vaka (Tongan). i am tongan. i can attest that our strong Christian beliefs bring us together and make us happy. one can't say God or Jesus had nothing to do with that. that's like saying your parents had nothing to do with your childhood. your parents taught you and loved you. we learn God's word through scripture and personal meditation (prayer) and because His words comfort and teach us. thus, we feel love for ourselves and one another. not trying to convince you, but this is just my own personal testament.

In our history, the concept of afterlife (Pulotu), Heaven/Sky (Langi) and the underworld (Maama/Lolofonua) were in existence pre missionaries. Hence why it was easy for our "Polynesian" people to understand the concept of Christianity.
