The White Rose Young Germans Who Took on the Nazis

  • In a matter of hours, they were tried, convicted, and beheaded for the crime of treason. These young friends had dared to oppose the Nazi regime-and were caught in a crucial moment, when the Nazis feared their grip on the public was slipping.
In urgent, pleading messages, copied and mailed to thousands of Germans, the members of the “White Rose” resistance group begged their fellow citizens to rise up. Their voices went unheard then, but today the group is a symbol of righteous rebellion. On this anniversary of the execution of three members, learn their story.

I very much disagree with the statement that The White Rose Movement did not achieve much. So many years later they are still inspiring and motivating people to move beyond fear and to speak and to do the right thing. Much love ❤️

Thank you, Dr. Friedberg, for the video about the White Rose youths of Germany who stood against Hitler and his henchmen. They sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom in Germany and saw that the Nazi ideology was wrong. May their lives and courage be remembered and honored while the names of the long-dead war criminals are cursed and reviled for their crimes.

Something of interest related to this. Traudle Jung hitlers last secretary said she always made excuses for having worked for a monster. Then one day shortly before her death she noticed a plack that she had walked by for years but had never read before. It turned out to be a tribute to Sofie scole. She was the same age as her. She said suddenly she no longer had any excuse.

@@johnwright291 The quote you are referring to came from an interview that Traudl Junge gave that was used in the 2004 German film _Der Untergang_ (Downfall). The film was based off of Junge's written accounts of Adolf Hitler's final days in the Führerbunker.
*“Of course, the terrible things I heard from the Nuremberg Trials, about the six million Jews and the people from other races who were killed, were facts that shocked me deeply. But I wasn’t able to see the connection with my own past. I was satisfied that I wasn’t personally to blame and that I hadn’t known about those things. I wasn’t aware of the extent.*
*But one day, I went past the memorial plaque which had been put up for Sophie Scholl…, and I saw that she was born the same year as me, and she was executed the same year I started working for Hitler. And at that moment, I actually sensed that it was no excuse to be young and that it would have been possible to find things out.”*

However historic renditions of heroism impact one, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, because the experiences being cited and praised, in and of themselves, are an examination of what's passed, the discussion is somewhat safe.
What one can say, applying these acts of resistance, which were indeed perilous and noble, to the here and now?
Here, while we live and witness, what is still being left tacit, unsaid, "unsafe" to say? How and what do we learn, or is such fatalistic history simply being continued, worldwide? What is courage? Hopefully it is not just an abstract, existential question kept remote from our hearts and minds.

It was very sad, but she and her brother, and the others of the White Rose, are hero's.There was another young man, Helmuth Hubener, who was executed in 1942, for his anti nazi stance. What was unmentioned in this talk was how devoutly Christian the Scholls were. That is a very big part of this story. Yes, there were Christians who collaborated with the Nazis and turned their backs on the Jews. There were also other Christians who were inspired to resist the Nazis because of their faith. You do a great disservice to and distort the historical record when you neglect to mention that.
