The US, in its role as world policeman (or protector depending on your view) has made it a target for the failings of the West in general. It has become cool to knock America and Britain as they have always taken charge in this regard. But they have also made the biggest sacrifices. The rest of the world has sat back and benefitted from the strength and protection of NATO but don't want to be seen to support it, or take political flak for it.
Europe and China can live together in peace, it won't be a big problem .... the problem will be Americans struggling with it's shrinking relevance and lashing out in anger and resentment.

europe was fine even before the USA existed. For a european security the USA is not really necessary. That is simple a reality. It is not that Europes security Needs the USA, but US power projection Needs Europe and it is time that the USA Pays a sufficiant land lease for their bases.
