Listening to what happened to Roman's mother always gives me goosebumps. Niko probably wanted to save what's left of Roman's innocence by lying to him about what happened to her. He doesn't want Roman's heart to be filled with revenge just like his

This is the Kosovo war. The war in Yugoslavia, when Belgrade was bombed by NATO. Only America is to blame for this, and no one else. After we finish with Ukraine, we will definitely help Serbia to return its territories that NATO took from them by force.
We intervened in the war not with Ukraine, but with NATO, and we can no longer stop!

I come from Croatia and my family moved into the countryside where i grew up. The particular village has had a massacre during the War, and there's a mass grave here.
A lot of people, including my first neighbor, are veterans, defenders. You can really tell in my neighbor that he has been through a lot, and some of those things just never leave a person. My generation missed the war but the scars of war still lingers in the way many were raised.
There was this old lady who lived In between my village and a town where i went to school, and she's lost her mind because of what she's experienced.
She had members of her family killed, and she was raped. It's horrifying. She'd throw sticks and stones at passing cars. I always remember her because my young self couldn't fully understand what that meant. But having seen it, i went on to learn about the war and to make sure i understand why it happened.
I went on to become quite a military history and firearms enthusiast, but I will never let myself get fooled by someone into going to war. My dad did, and so did many other people. The dead now rest in peace but i pray for peace above ground, too.

Rockstar made a great job with developing Niko's character.
They perfectly described what a war does to a person and how it can change people's mentality.
The idea that many civilians are forced to help soldiers for their own country and do bad things that they never wanted to do, or die for something that doesn't resolve nothing is just sad.
No matter if it's Russia or Ukraine, both have innocents people who are forced to fight for good or bad reasons and some of them died... People like us...
Niko describe himself exactly like most part of those innocents will describe themself after this situation: soulless.
They will find no differences from die or living, the remorse for killing other people (that were probably innocents like them) will hit their heart very hard every single day of their life... All this for just one person who only care about money or personal glory...

It hurts because you know they care and you want to belive them, to be better for the people who are rooting for you, but sometimesthe past just doesn'tlet go.Rockstar went really deep into Niko's character. (apart from the details and controls compared to GTA5) i like how they tried to humanize Niko, that he ain't a gangster/mob like in VC or SA, giving it a unique perspective, just doing things becuse he does not know better/is dragged into this. Victor from VCS was similar, having a humanized trait dispite what he does. (Sigh) realy wish GTA4 would be released for PS4. And we all should pay our respect to veterans like Niko, who came out traumatized.

Having grown up in a Yugoslav neighbourhood in the 90s when people were fleeing from the wars there, Croats, Serbs, Bosnians etc who worked with my dad on freighters trying to escape from back home. I relate to this. They shouted at another, cried with eachother, and hugged another, its like all the pain and anger at eachother of everything they were dealing with washed away once they moved from that place. Not everyone though, certainly though those who were mad at another, still are. I like to think they are mad because opportunists used their national pride to fight and kill what were once brothers and sisters, under the guise of national pride. Though I miss that place though, it was as close to a real neighborhood as any other. Generally good people who always had plentiful food, good stories and plenty of laughs.

I asked him when I was younger what was the war like? He looked at me and said that in war your ordered to do things that will stay with you for the rest of your life by someone who is sitting behind and desk watching the war through a television screen. They don't live with their choices and the deaths they caused cause they was there to pull the trigger...we was. My uncle died by his own hands a few years ago. Him describing his time in the Yugoslav Wars always gave me chills and added more depth into his character when I was playing it

3:41 man hearing that while playing for the first time totally shocked me, man... poor Roman and poor Niko too

I've never gotten far enough into GTA IV, so I never even knew how the guy who betrayed Niko's squad loomed like. The most shocking thing definitely was that the paycheck for betrayal that the mf got was just... A thousand dollars?? For 13 lives?
GTA IV is just a game, but it tells such a strong and emotional story that it feels like more than a game.

These bad experiences... That's why war is bad, people must understand it.

Man, if the easter eggs of gta 5 are canon it warms my heart to know Niko is seemingly living a happy life with Roman and friends
