I love your long videos! I have done far too many installations over the years. Normally, when work stops, it always revolves around money; either the customer hasn`t paid or stopped the last installment (because the machine isn`t working) or the customer doesn`t want to pay for additional work, which we used to say was "outside the specification of the installation.". I am guessing the people involved in the merger have said no to any more funding for the ride. In theory, Zamperla could be sued for loss of earnings because X number of people are not going to the park because the ride is not working. As we say in the UK, "It will all end in tears."

Someone in the comments also mentioned a lawsuit but I’m not going there. It’s way too personal and I would stay away from that.

From the very 1st statement, cedar point put the blame squarely on zamperla. And a lot of people got mad and said they were throwing zamperla under the bus. I thought it sounded odd, and considered it could be for legal purposes.

This will make the amusement park industry worse. This will end competition between the the 2 companies leading to less good rides because there will be no motivation to make good rides because they have a monopoly on the amusement industry

I think the coaster wars are officially over. Since basically top Thrill and kinda ka. I think since then, parks have been putting in really cool rides, to increase people coming to the parks, thereby increasing revenue, as opposed to competition. We don't know how this merger will allocate resources. I heard six flags brought a lot of baggage. I wish this didn't happen.
The park remaining silent says it all...The construction company was working on the switch track a few days ago..They may not know what's wrong...The testing has all but stopped,we are over a week w/o a train being tested..This whole thing isn't good while intiman is sitting back with a beer,cigar and an ear to ear smile
Confidence is like a gauge. For it to be earned somewhere means it has to be lost somewhere else. I think a lot of people are feeling trapped with intamin and this working would be a breath of fresh air that there’s at least an option to take if the park wanted to. Might give negotiation leverage in the future.

Yes, but in this case, with the benefit of hindsight Intamin would’ve been a better choice. I certainly don’t think it would’ve been worse. “The enemy you know…..” ect This is a first world disaster. But a disaster nonetheless.

Intamin was and is the right choice and they're not touching the project now, why would they? They knew it needed a new launch track design from the get-go because what worked for a hydraulic system likely wasn't stable enough for a LSM system. They've had years to iterate this process and knew the only thing that should of been preserved was the top hat with a project like this. Zamperla didn't realize these shortcomings and it's going to keep causing issues for years to come IF it opens again.
Honestly considering the reliability and history of this ride, I feel the park should be being more transparent about what’s going on. I could see with a new ride and working out the bugs but this ride has a history and in 2021 the history took a dark turn. I totally understand that these machines have issues but I really feel with TT2 specifically, they should be honest and straightforward about it or they’re gonna have a lot of people questioning its safety. It’s almost like they don’t know what to say to the public.
Hey Ryan, I didn't think about them "waiting for the merger." I would think that this truly is a Zamperla issue. The "new 6 Flags" can hold their feet to the fire. Without being able to sell any future rides to their now 42 ( less but they've included water parks in the count) parks would put them out of business. It's their responsibility not Cedar Point's. The silence speaks volumes...
I'm pretty new to the channel (and love it by the way) so if this has been brought up before I apologize but my thought on this whole Top Thrill 2 situation is this... Most were surprised to see Zamperla was the company chosen to handle this revamp but what if other companies, like perhaps Intamin, were approached and wanted nothing to do with this project. The train Zamperla made is a prototype and in the roller coaster industry prototypes never go smoothly. The best case scenario here is Zamperla & Cedar Point spend alot of time and money getting this ride to the reliability they're looking for. Worst case scenario is problems continue to occur and within a couple of years it doesn't make financial sense to keep working on it and the plan is scrapped all together.

As far as the initial bidding. From what I understood a lot of companies put in for it. Some were too expensive. But they went with Zamperla I’m guessing for the total package. I heard they got discount on other rides as well (total win) and Zamperla gets to develop the lightning train (win) so I think just the amount of downtime is the only issue. I brought up the ride height in the comments of another video of yours. I don't think they're going to do anything about it, but I was surprised at how much higher I felt on TT2 than TTD, and the twisting motion throws your body around quite a bit. I can't imagine the extra leverage of the riders weight being thrown around is great for the wheels/wheel carriers, but I would assume they thought about that when designing it. When rides like this are purchased, does a park like CP have their own team look over the engineering or do they get a third party to look at it? Or do they just go by the word of the manufacturer's engineering team that everything is good?
They typically use their own and external and Zamperlas. But plenty of thing happen that are wrong. But we don’t know if the height away front the track is the problem or is part of the problem or is not a problem.

Obviously they intentionally did it, they modified a support to keep it out of reach and it would have been apart of any analysis done before. Zamperla were the ones selling the lightning trains as an a brand new innovative technological breakthrough for the amusement ride industry. Cedar Point did a whole rollout simply about the trains. It seems like the primary envelope being pushed from the engineering perspective was the trains. Could the trains be defective? How would that be determined? How would that play out? If the trains were defective, would that jeopardize the ride altogether?

I still think the problem is much deeper than Cedar Point wants to admit. We may never know what it was until years later. It is significant enough that it can't be fixed quickly or easily.
I like your thoughts... I would imagine it is more then money being tied up. I think it is an engineering issue due to unforseen stress on the wheel bogies.
I agree the external wiring harness looks like industrial ethernet. Is there any evidence they have applied strain gauges to the train frames? If the strength of the structure is in question, I would think they would choose to apply strain gauges to high stress areas of the frame rather than accelerometers. The data from the strain gauges could be used to validate their mathematical and computer models of the frame.
Total dream on my side, but, if they are redesigning trains, can they redesign the ride after the top hat too. Covered the queue and no longer use the water for the expedition ride. Its F1/Indy theme now, needs to have quick turns and more of a layout with elements like a zero G stall (looking at you Pantheon). Would love to see what the other manufacturers that put in bids had drawn up to reimagine TTD.
Me too. That's what I've been trying to get to the bottom of. Like who's idea was the ride? Were there other ideas? And who's ideas? It looks like this was zamperla's idea. All stemming from the trains. I could be wrong though. It's hard to find out how this process played out.
I think more than likely it is legal related, but for other reasons based on what I've seen behind the scenes. Time will tell and if it's delayed due to the board, I highly doubt Six Flags is planning to pay the bill in this case in any capacity and if these discussions are happening a legal dispute is likely brewing beyond what has already started.
I agree with all the terms... I was thinking about that about the merger... that funding was cut right now...and to make it right someone has to cut a check...and you even stated that could be an issue ... I will say it's a wrap...on tt2 until next year...

At the end of this whole mess, I think Cedar flags should get to hire a new manufacturer to design new trains and then turn around and sue the crap out of zamperla. That's my take. And I don't think cedar point chose zamperla to save money. I think zamperla over promised and it turned out to be a flop.
Tony Clark commented and said that there is no reopening date yet for TT2 I really hope that TT2 ends up reopening this year I really do. And I hope that Top Thrill 2 reopens this month or next month that would be nice but I'm probably just dreaming on that !!! Those are somat edaq cables. They're definitely doing engineering stress or vibration testing 😂 They definitely had fatigue issues of the wheel carriers. And that's concerning that it happened so early. So not only are they having to redesign and validate virtually, they're having to prove their virtual validation with physical testing now. If they were that far on their fatigue life estimates, it's going to require a lot more support and high grade billet metal to get an acceptable life out of them
I’m surprised that they (now Six Flags) would have to pay any money for in warranty work. It’s Zamperla’s fault and I would expect them to eat all the costs to make it right.
Im not saying they are. But if the company wanted to go above and beyond, it would be their dime. Like warranty work on a car. Say the tranny goes out, the manufacture will pay to replace it. You can say I want a new one. They say no. So you negotiate a price that’s basically the price of a new tranny minus the repair work they would cover. Very odd scenario.
Cedar Fair is notorious for changing/insisting/demanding ride plans be modified before being built.The unload station on Millie was a CF demand and not part of the original drawing,what if they altered Zamperla's design/plan amd now it's causing the issues so they are pointing fingers at each other
I could see a scenario where some “Risks” were pointed out by Zamp and CF rolled the dice. That being said Zamp screwed up the only thing they really could. Train design. Launch isn’t unique and most of the structure was there. Man, how do you screw this up? (I’m just talking to myself at this point lol) I’ve heard a bazillion different excuses. But that old Dragster now has a better operating debut than TT2. AND the park is now a six flags park Twilight zone stuff
I had a bad feeling about this ride actually. I know the tallest ride zamperla might have done would have been 150 feet tall and I think that perhaps they should have done something smaller and started it from scratch with the lightning traines. Also in fact they would have been better to build lets say a big b and m coaster or something else instead of this less greef and they would have something that runs well. I just not trusting of zamperla actually i would have prefered something from somebody else first
We are doomed. It's the private equity firms that are destroying the amusement park industry. This is not good news. I will be boycotting all of their parks. Will only go to Hersheypark and Busch Gardens and European parks. I used to be a Platinum Cedar Fair Season holder for decades. Stopped that after 2019-2020. Never again.
Gaffers tape is so much better. More $$$$ but man it works! The nose of my car has a fluorescent orange stripe across the bottom. That stripe was just a row of Dayglow orange gaffers tape. Applied it once and never took it off over two years!!
Officials would be very angry with us if we used bondo, unfortunately lol. We do still use duct tape for a few things, though it's usually called "Polyken" after the brand we typically use. Mostly we use it for covering brake ducts and grilles. Put it down in a couple of layers so it doesn't get essentially sandblasted through. We still have to use gaff tape (we call it "cloth tape", not sure why we change the names of things so much lol) to make a bright colored pull tab so we can get it off quickly on a pit stop if needed
Correct lol. Fortunately I'm one of the lucky ones that gets to make a living building the race cars, so I don't have to worry about the price tag nearly as much lol

He probably regrets saying even as much as he did because now something else has gone wrong or there has been another delay and he looks stupid and people are calling him a liar. And people wonder why parks don't generally give detailed/frequent updates of what's going on.

If you say something like that, then something else goes wrong... then they should SAY that... Update the website at least ... "While we early said this wouldn't be a summer long issue, the situation on the ground has changed," That's all it would take.,.. but instead they just leave everybody frustrated and speculating. The cabling could be accelerometers, as you said, but I'm thinking possibly strain gages placed at suspected areas around the train.

It looks like this was zamperla's idea. All stemming from the trains. I could be wrong though. It's hard to find out how this process played out.
I think more than likely it is legal related, but for other reasons based on what I've seen behind the scenes. Time will tell and if it's delayed due to the board, I highly doubt Six Flags is planning to pay the bill in this case in any capacity and if these discussions are happening a legal dispute is likely brewing beyond what has already started.

I was thinking about that about the merger... that funding was cut right now...and to make it right someone has to cut a check...and you even stated that could be an issue ...

At the end of this whole mess, I think Cedar flags should get to hire a new manufacturer to design new trains and then turn around and sue the crap out of zamperla. That's my take. And I don't think cedar point chose zamperla to save money. I think zamperla over promised and it turned out to be a flop.

Tony Clark commented and said that there is no reopening date yet for TT2 I really hope that TT2 ends up reopening this year I really do. And I hope that Top Thrill 2 reopens this month or next month that would be nice but I'm probably just dreaming on that !!! But it would be nice i do think u are right about bow maybe since the merger is finalized maybe we will see them start working on TT2 again i hope so anyways !!! I dont wanna give up on TT2 reopening this year

Those are somat edaq cables. They're definitely doing engineering stress or vibration testing 😂
They definitely had fatigue issues of the wheel carriers. And that's concerning that it happened so early. So not only are they having to redesign and validate virtually, they're having to prove their virtual validation with physical testing now. If they were that far on their fatigue life estimates, it's going to require a lot more support and high grade billet metal to get an acceptable life out of them
I’m surprised that they (now Six Flags) would have to pay any money for in warranty work. It’s Zamperla’s fault and I would expect them to eat all the costs to make it right.
Im not saying they are. But if the company wanted to go above and beyond, it would be their dime. Like warranty work on a car. Say the tranny goes out, the manufacture will pay to replace it. You can say I want a new one. They say no. So you negotiate a price that’s basically the price of a new tranny minus the repair work they would cover. Very odd scenario.
Cedar Fair is notorious for changing/insisting/demanding ride plans be modified before being built.The unload station on Millie was a CF demand and not part of the original drawing,what if they altered Zamperla's design/plan amd now it's causing the issues so they are pointing fingers at each other

I could see a scenario where some “Risks” were pointed out by Zamp and CF rolled the dice.
That being said Zamp screwed up the only thing they really could. Train design. Launch isn’t unique and most of the structure was there. Man, how do you screw this up? (I’m just talking to myself at this point lol)

I had a bad feeling about this ride actually. I know the tallest ride zamperla might have done would have been 150 feet tall and I think that perhaps they should have done something smaller and started it from scratch with the lightning traines.
Also in fact they would have been better to build lets say a big b and m coaster or something else instead of this less greef and they would have something that runs well. I just not trusting of zamperla actually i would have prefered something from somebody else first
We are doomed. It's the private equity firms that are destroying the amusement park industry. This is not good news. I will be boycotting all of their parks. Will only go to Hersheypark and Busch Gardens and European parks.

In the professional stock car racing world, we prefer zip ties and gaff tape. Some bailing (we use the term "safety") wire here and there as well

Gaffers tape is so much better. More $$$$ but man it works! The nose of my car has a fluorescent orange stripe across the bottom. That stripe was just a row of Dayglow orange gaffers tape. Applied it once and never took it off over two years!!
Officials would be very angry with us if we used bondo, unfortunately lol. We do still use duct tape for a few things, though it's usually called "Polyken" after the brand we typically use. Mostly we use it for covering brake ducts and grilles. Put it down in a couple of layers so it doesn't get essentially sandblasted through. We still have to use gaff tape (we call it "cloth tape", not sure why we change the names of things so much lol) to make a bright colored pull tab so we can get it off quickly on a pit stop if needed

If you say something like that, then something else goes wrong... then they should SAY that... Update the website at least ... "While we early said this wouldn't be a summer long issue, the situation on the ground has changed," That's all it would take.,.. but instead they just leave everybody frustrated and speculating. It's just not a good idea.
