    I'm so addicted to Marvel United. Found this channel by pure accident. You sound like a movie action star rather than a board game review lol. 9:36 if you buy the X-Men Core Set you get 5 player mode (1 villain vs 4 heroes) and if you buy X-Men Team Blue or X-Men Team Gold you can extend the player count to 7 players (1 villain vs 2 heroe teams of 2 or 3 players, battle royale style)

    I was absolutely blindsided by this little game. I got the Amazon sets for super cheap and found out it was a really quick and simple way to pass the time. I probably would not have spent on all the KS content, but my local stores have the retail expansions so I’ll definitely try to get them to see how they work. Really seems that more than heroes, the game would benefit from more villains.
    I have been enjoying the base and X-Men boxes for when I do not have enough time or energy for another Marvel Champions round.

    Kickstarter exclusives and stretch goals are a plague. Backers always want special crap, but any game project that will create meaningful extras solely available to those who happened to be around when they started ... fuck'em. Honestly, that's the stance I've taken, it saves me from wasting brain power on stuff that I shouldn't be wasting time on in the first place. Special, limited to backers only, pieces that upgrade existing pieces or whatever participation trophies -- but isn't creating/removing actual content -- fine, whatever, don't care. But projects that actually create content (or cut something out to make it exclusive to backers) ... that's just disgracefully criminal, disgusting and disrespectful.
    That said ... yeah. I went to the BGG website recently, and they're dumping the Geek Market. At the rate they're going, they're going to make themselves completely obsolete in a couple years. If they're tired of running it, why don't they just sell it to someone who would like to run it? Slowly turning it into an orange turd is really disrespectful and seems unnecessarily spiteful to the number of people who have found value in it.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  2 года назад +1

      The geek market is being scrapped? Is this because they upped their commission and no one wants to use it anymore?

    • @db5823
      @db5823 2 года назад +2

      @@BoardGameBollocks No idea. They posted an announcement about it and locked the comment section. (Which is sort of a major asshat move.) That's all I know.
      It's a shame, really, it was a fairly good way to try to get hard to find old games. One real and tangible benefit of an online community.

    The X-Men core set does include an official way to play with 5 players. One player controls the villain against 4 heroes and there some new rules introduced. The X-men set also has 2 expansions that introduces team play (gold team & blue team) so you can play a 3 vs 3 game. Those two sets are not supposed to be kickstarter exclusives but no word on a retail release yet.

    Thanks for the passionate review. I have seen this both at retail and on the used market and have been hesitant to buy it, due to the replayability of the core box. The price of the Kickstarter extras on the used market is equal to or greater than some other complete games. So will most likely pass on this until more content is available retail.

    Marvel United is a great game! I'm glad to see it enjoyed by so many reviewers, and i love your style of reviewing haha. i do wonder, does your opinion change on the player count to know that you can technically play up to 7 players by using the team vs team mode? 3 players to a team and another player can control the villain. its a great way to bring this game out to bigger crowds, but this is definitely the sort of game I'd rather play fully coop.

    That is the biggest problem that has stopped me from getting this game,and going all in with Marvel Champions card game. The expansions. To make the main game so cheap and making certain expansions exclusive to the Kickstarter is just out right killer for me. I didn't get into the original Kickstarter and when I was looking at getting the game,I looked for the Infinity Gauntle expansion. Only to find it was an Kickstarter exclusive. Why?!?!? In fact why make any of the expansions exclusive to Kickstarter.

    The cutesy chibi-style artwork was an aesthetic deal-breaker for me. Then again, I never liked Funko-pop figures either... especially with Marvel! Growing up with such great comic book art since the Silver Age, it's like a cold wet slap in the face!
    But I'm not so shallow that I didn't give the game a chance! It's just not for me. I'd much rather play Crisis Protocol (which is a very solid and enjoyable game) or really grind it out with the complexities of HeroClix.

  • @TableTopWolf1984

    Yeah those villains go down easier to certain teams, especially the exclusive shite that Cmon do, some of the heroes are overpowered, but im glad you spoke about the difficulty coz I'm sick of hearing folk say this is a weak easy game you dont even have to put thought into to win, something tells me they only played against red skull twice, but I do have both all ins and have played with everything, my only gripe is that it gets very repetative with certain villains and heroes basically having the same abilities, for every rhyno or spiral cool villain, there is about 8 villains who win by emptying their deck, its cmon being lazy and just copy pasting rules as always, and for me this series is done now, but I have a feeling cmon will try to do a third coz it made a boat load of wonga.

    This game is bullocks. Too expensive in Europe. I bought the core for 40€. I don't know what the hype is around this game. The villain has a few cards, if you play it a few times you know which cards are still left in the game. Which makes it predictable what the villain will do. And the games are very short, so the theme doesn't come alive in this game. I never had the feeling "ooh wow the powers of Ironman are cool!", none of that. Everyone who thinks different, I think is sponsored by cmon. I will not spend 30€ more for an expansion. For a little bit more, I can buy Branch and Claw expansion of Spirit Island which gives you way much more fun.

    At one point you referred to the game as , which I think is something different.
    Three big strikes against this for me:
    1. I don’t care for Marvel, or DC, or any superheroes in fact so no thematic attraction,
    2. I don’t do Kickstarter and you have shown why picking up retail versions of KS is a pain. I went on the Site of Shite and counted 28 (!!) expansions for this game.
    3. I don’t much like ‘chibi’ artwork, those miniatures look like crap.
    4. The mechanisms look pretty unoriginal for this type of coop game (did I say three strikes?).
    Good luck to those who like this sort of cra - game.

    • @petermillen6924
      @petermillen6924 2 года назад +1

      @@IamJFD I am not the channel owner so have no obligation to be mealy-mouthed; if I don’t like the theme, find the artwork grotesque and have no desire to buy or play the game then I will call it crap. Might it be a good game to interest non-gamers? I dunno but that’s not my mission in life so what?
      You wonder what games I like? I dislike superhero and Star Wars themes and despise SLEUGS (snivelling little eurogames), some of my faves include Heroscape, Euphrat & Tigris, Diamant Duel of Ages Lowenherz Bucket King, Die Schlact Der Dinosaurier, etc.
      Oh, and Thunder Road (just to annoy the proprietor).
