You missed completely that Netero is not a heroe. He doesnt care at all about the humans that will die with the Ants alive. He only cares about the king being strong and getting a good fight. So no Netero would not care to die of natural causes and the bomb exploding with people close. It wasnt even him that proposed them to fight that far 😂
Someone already mentioned it. But Aoi Todo in JJk s2e21 after losing Boogie Woogie, he says “The act of applause… is an acclamation of the soul.” This is a direct callback to Netero’s “you believe I cannot pray with a single arm? A prayer comes from the heart.” Gege LOVES HxH and constantly references it.
It's not nen. It's not an individual's overwhelming talent. It's not even the pinnacle of human achievement. It's a cheap mass produced weapon popular with small dictatorships. I love this moment for how it recontextualizes the entire conflict. The ants weren't ever truly a threat to humanity. They might cause a significant level of destruction and chaos if they spread out, but their hierarchical system that only values and prioritizes the pinnacle of ability could never truly stand up to humanity's cooperative and cumulative efforts. If the king had valued the contributions of those he saw as lesser and not immediately killed Peggy, the one ant interested in learning about the world they live in, he might have found out about humanity's abilities and technologies and the precarious position the ants were in. Instead he learned the hard way.
It's Meruem's arrogance that spelled his doom. It wouldn't matter if he knew about how actually precarious his position is, he truly believed in his superiority. He wouldn't truly understand the gravity of it until the end, when it was already too late. That's his nature.
I sort of understood the difference between humans and ants in a different way, it’s not so much the difference in human cooperation vs ants hierarchal social structure which gives humans the edge, but rather human individuality, tribalism and hate which wins us the war. The ants could never create weapons like this not because they are dumber or less cooperative than humans, but because they are smarter and more cooperative. Bombs built to destroy your own kin, the absurdity of such a device, defies reasoning to the ants. That’s just how I viewed it tho.
Here's what's dark: what made Netero's plan fool-proof was the fact that, if the King insta-killed him and Zeno, poor man's rose would have gone off, killing *EVERYONE*
Still a win, everyone participate knows the risk of death, making sure Ant dead more important than anything else, still the old man managed to profit from it. Being a peak but aging martial art holic doomed to lose skills slowly and suddenly he gets a chance to stage his own final showdown, what a blessing.
It is important to underline the fact that the bomb used was "low budget" and "massively produced" meaning, in short, that humanity has by the point of the series far surpassed the capabilities of even the strongest nen users (with a few edge cases 😊). The ants basically never stood a chance even if no hunters existed whatsoever.
16:19 And there it is. Like I've mentioned in episode 55-56 when Gon question Chrollo "how can you kill people who have nothing to do with you?" we have Gon at his darkest and lowest where he doesn't care about anything and would kill an innocent person just to get what he wants WHEN he wants - since he already waited an hour and is not willing to wait anymore or have any delays. The way we see in this arc the King becoming more human and Gon becoming more of a monster when confronting Pitou is brilliant.
Fun fact: The Bomber's hand explosion ability is called Little Flower. In the HxH universe, that ability is most likely a reference to the Miniature Rose bomb. Idk if its necessarily confirmed to be so, but it is a very cool reference and slight foreshadowing of this rigged game that Netero played
If accidental then Togashi really likes relating explosions to flowers but even then it ends up working in universe because Genthru would make the same association anyways.
its probably not intentional. The word for fireworks in japanese is 花火 (hanabi), which uses the kanji 花(hana) for flower and 火(hi) for fire. So it's less of a Togashi thing to associate explosions and flowers and more of a japanese thing. What i'd say its a smart writing move is the constant reference to flowers in palace fights preceding Netero vs Meruem. Usually, death is associated with flowers withering. But in the manga panels of the near deaths of Knuckle and Shoot we see flowers _blooming_. We can then later associate this with the Poor Man's Rose, that causes death when it blooms.
Remember what Netero said at the beginning of the arc; "i don't think i can accomplished this mission without sacrificing someone", he was referring to himself, what a chad.

21:58 Also, another fun fact before I forget, when Netero mentions “evolution” it actually has a double meaning, the word used in Japanese can both mean “evolution” and “malice”. So Netero means “you know nothing of humanity’s infinite potential for evolution/malice”. After all, during the whole arc we explore the themes of humanity’s humanity and cruelty, the fact that humans and monsters (ants) aren’t so different after all.
This is only half true as "evolution" and "malice" are completely different words in Japanese. What it actually is that manga(and sometimes novels too) use something called a "furigana". Furigana is used to give the reading of complex kanji characters in a more easily readable form, that is hiragana. In this case, the author used the kanji for one (either malice or evolution, can't remember which) while using the furigana for the other, thus giving the statement a double meaning.

Maybe a bit late to put this context, but in the original Netero said " you knoe nothing of humans potencial for malice". First Netero is a villain among villains. He cares little about the human lives that the ants would take. He was there basically for the fun. Second, since he used a cheap bomb that ended up being the downfall of Meruem, he is basically saying that the strongest of humans weapons wasnt necessary to deal with Meruem, putting humans as the strongest but also the wickest for creating something capable of such destrution
Haha, Netero doesn't just walk around with the Miniature Rose in his chest! He had it implanted for this fight specifically. If he had managed to win without sacrificing himself, I imagine he would have had it removed.
Loved the reaction. Ange was spot on when he said the statue behind netero looks like god. whenver i see the ending of this episode i always wonder what would happen if Netero had a heart attack in a shopping mall, but aside that, this is one of greatest episodes in shonen history. I also don't feel sad for Netero's death honestly, he wasn't the type that wanted to fade away in a hospital bed, he wanted to go out like a warrior, fighting someone worthy of defeating him while he was still powerful, and that's exactly what happened, he enjoyed his "final act", as he called it.
It's absolutely painful and disgusting to think that humanity had already developed that horrible bomb before all this..this was not a bomb created to kill the ants..it was created to kill eachother. Humanity has infinite potential for evolution and evil..afterall, the ants despite hating eachother and killing eachother..they never devoted so much time to develop anything so horrible just to kill eachother

It's pretty obvious he only had the bomb inside him for the fight 🤦
8:45 - Still funny that Killua thought he could beat the old man
Been waiting for HxH reactions ❤
It's absolutely painful and disgusting to think that humanity had already developed that horrible bomb before all this..this was not a bomb created to kill the ants..it was created to kill eachother.
Humanity has infinite potential for evolution and evil..afterall, the ants despite hating eachother and killing eachother..they never devoted so much time to develop anything so horrible just to kill eachother
Netero is the mother f'ing reaper here. He walked in knowing death was coming with him.
there are some badasses out there but netero is surely on top
Absolutely Masterpiece 💜🖤💜💜
yo wtf is that scene bro, my eyes water SO QUICKLY watching that netero meruem finale
Meruem: Tell me my name.
Netero:🙏🤌🙏✊🙏👍🙏✌🙏👊🦵🙏🤛🙏🤜🙏👉🙏🤙🙏👎🙏🤏🙏🤘🙏🤚🙏🤞🙏👆🙏✊
🙏👏🙏🖕👄🤞🫀💥👋
8:33 Noooo, they missed Netero's middle finger....
dude brought a nuke to a fist fight
Funny, but not a nuke, just a very powerful bomb.
Netro was a beast
Omg youre almost there...
yeah humankind has been around long enough to have weapons and tech beyond their imagination
We need your reaction on kaiju no 8 please please please
Don't forget that netero has less than half his prime power, young netero fighting meruem would go crazy
Meruim got turned into Voldemort 😂
Netero the OG
A prayer comes from the Heart!
Aoi Todo (JJK) got inspired by this scene!
good night, Meruem
Esse luta é simplesmente épica, uma das melhores de todos os animes, muito bem coreografada eu amo
"hxh having a emotional moment"
Carlie: he's been armined
💀
Rest in peace Netero 🫡
that Armin pop up was slick
Meruem never stood a chance against humanity, our potential for destruction is much greater, we know this because unfortunately we eventually do this to ourselves
If there is a hell...I will see you there 🥶
LMAO I CAN'T with that ARMIN EDIT
Netero survived the dark continent and then died from a creature of this place
20:05 HELP 😭😭😭
He has to make his job done, even it's become ugly. GG Netero
Not Armin XD
Armin was Meruem'd*
The way you casually just said "Oh...he's been Armin'd" omfg 😭😂
He's been Armined 😭😭😭😭😭
Carlie didn’t just say “he’s been Armin’d” with a sad/shocked face 😂
