Dear, dear Allison what a wonderful interview with my beloved Michael....I was a crew member on THE WALTONS and also made multiple appearances in episodes...and yes, we still are family. I discovered your show when Judy Norton told me she was going to be on. I love your energy, your enthusiasm, and positivity! Over the years I've seen Michael interviews, this is the best...and although I've known Michael for 50 years...this is the first time I knew that her father was a 'Spy'!....yes, yes...Michael should get on with her book!

@@markpollock9572 Hi Mark, it was a privilege and honor to have been able to be part of the "Walton" family...I am so proud. Funny you should ask about the screen appearances because I can't remember all of them, there were so many....most came about when we got stuck during shooting and needed someone in an instant! Director Harry Harris and director Ralph Senensky used to spring the surprise on me. Ralph Waite cast me in "Founders Day" I think I'm credited as "Music Student" or something like that, what was wonderful was working with Ralph and Dean Jagger (look him up) who played the head in my all-time favorite movie "White Christmas"...you can also see me delivering John-Boys book to the New York publisher who went on to publish it in "The Achievement", then there was an episode where Ike Godsey was mistakenly drafted and I delivered him to the draft board! There were so many...it always surprises me when I see myself...and it brings back wonderful memories. You can google me if you like...john Philip dayton. Thank you so much for commenting Mark, it makes it all worthwhile.

Most child star's voices change so much that you can't recognize them as adults. Alison is definitely the exception to that rule. I love that I can still hear "Nellie" in her voice and inflection.

I have been a pilot, been in combat, and have done theatre - and I was WAY more nervous doing theatre! I would get so nervous during auditions and performances that I would get physically sick. I had to give it up just because of the stress.
I met Michael Learned (and the rest of the cast) on the Waltons set when I was maybe 10 years old, and it’s still among the highlights of my life. It’s so fun to see this interview. I’m still a big fan of hers 50 years later.

Michael was perfect for the series as was Patricia Neal perfect for the movie. I always felt that John Boy was her favorite! I guess they weren't that far apart in age. I loved the show then and now and always. I love when Daddy got frustrated with Mama and her Bible! Great interview, Alison.

Hi Alison, thank you for introducing your name because I didn't know how to pronounce your last name. Michael Learned looks great. I loved her on The Waltons and when she left I missed her. I don't think the show was the same. I didn't know she won so many awards even though it isn't surprising. She did a wonderful job.

I enjoyed this so much, Thank you. Funny connection to you, Alison. I remember the Totem theatre in North Vancouver where I grew up! My husband always talks about his childhood memories walking over to watch the matinee. Kids would be throwing around their popcorn and making a lot of noise! Loved both of your TV shows as I grew up in the sixties and seventies. What a thrill to share in your happy memories.

Lots of other shows with mothers and fathers with children on them sometimes just the father or mother. June Lockhart was mother on Lassie, also mother with family including husband on Lost in space, she played Doctor on Petticoat junction after actress that played mother of the three daughter died.

Loved this interview! I came to see your show in Austin a few years ago and sat in the first row! It was such a hoot. :). I recently started watching "The Waltons" on Prime from the beginning. I saw it when I was a kid (I was 5 when it premiered in Sept 1972... so 50 years in a few months)... I haven't seen it at all in between except a random episode over the decades. It is completely different from "Little House" which I have seen several times through over the many years. "The Waltons" really holds up well, too. I was stunned at how good it was. I just finished the last episode Michael Learned was on and decided to stop and mourn for a day or so. That's when I found this interview. I just love her! She is the absolute best! I wish she had never left the show and I want to watch "Nurse" now, too. I just want to see every single thing she is in, and I want to read her unwritten memoir! :). Keep doing great interviews... :). It was just amazing!!!
