My first read of 2024 was Hogfather - it has become a bit of a tradition to read it over the new year. First purchase of the year was the new Emily Wilde book - which I hope to read before the end of the month. 🎆
Started the Broken Bonds series because of you! I’m almost done and I really enjoyed it! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on City of Stardust and Fragile Enchantment
🎆🎇🎉 I may or may not have just added Lady of Darkness to my tbr… 😂 2024 sounds sooo good in terms of new releases, I’m very excited to read so many of them 🥹
I have read and absolutely loved Lady of Darkness and I am currently reading Lady of Shadows. I definitely recommend Rain of Shadows and Endings by the same author. My first big read of the year was Beartown which I ended up having to DNF
One of m goals for 2024 is to read more Sci-Fi, so my first book was Translation State by Ann Leckie. I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would - 4.5 ⭐
I know this is totally off topic, but I don’t know how else to reach you. 😂 I know you love witches, fairy tales, and cozy games, so I thought I’d mention Bramble the Mountain King to you. This was my review for it. You should at least check it out. 🙂 This is the wildest, most original cozy game I’ve ever played. There are stories within the story, some based on Nordic mythology. If you’re fascinated by the witch trials or the 1600s in general, there’s a hauntingly beautiful portion where you have to confront witches. There’s some hardcore themes because Bramble is reminiscent of original fairy tales. Disney will not come to save you. I found it a tad needlessly gory in parts, but the originality of the game kept me hooked. I had a lot of fun with this one. Patience and a good sense of timing is mandatory.
I had a January tbr. I also derailed it myself. I read one book from it last month, and another book that wasn't on it at all at the beginning of the month. I have started a reread on that list, but I feel like my mood has shifted from a lot of the books on it so I don't think I will get to a lot of them. Ones that are for sure on my mind are four rereads which are Plain Bad Heroines, House of Hollow, Wuthering Heights, and The Great Gatsby. I also should throw Ninth House onto there and I can finally read the sequel. Other than that, I want to read Starling House and All's Well this month. If I read another nonfiction I think it will be The Witches Salem 1692 A History.
Question re: ARCs. Do you have to return them when you’re done? If not, do the publishers restrict what you can do with them (selling, giving away, etc)?
I've also enjoyed hibernating over the festive period, reading, sleeping, and eating an unholy amount of Christmas food 🫣 your Instagram stories about Lady of Darkness have convinced me to immediately pick it up ❤
I can't wait for "A Power is Taken"! I loved this series 💕
Fathomfolk looks so interesting!
