My wife and I just discovered this show. We're about to start Season 5. We're finishing about one season per week. What a great show with some amazing music.
This scene in Sons of Anarchy is one of the best scenes in the history of tv series imo. Gemma telling her boys what happened, the song, the impact it has on the whole story, Opies new family, Chibs troubles, the mushroom boys etcetc. Genius.
Absolutely. Jax's barely repressed rage and hurt when he hits the table after Gemma tells him... goosebumps! Jay and Clay's reaction early in the next episode, too: Clay: How do you want to handle it? Jax: We kill 'em all.
I thanked the person who took the time to write the lyrics to the song down. I lost My Husband recently and today I received devastated new of my own from my doctor. Somehow this song soothed me, so thank you and God bless
The revelation was so tastefully done and they really didn't go for what i expected - when the incident first happened i remember thinking i wanted clay and jax to shout and smash shit up and want bloody vengence - but the way it was done was so much more effective. The look on clay's face was just one of "i've completely failed the one i love" and it was heartbreaking. Amazing
I only I watched a few episodes with my crazy Ex. I am here for the artist Patti Griffin. She's 52, my age, written tons of hits for others. I don't get such a wonderful singer/songwriter like this can't make it BIG who can?
Beautiful song - I first heard it when i was half asleep while my other half was watching sons of anarchy and it stuck in my mind...... Beautiful song.....
A real 'behind the scenes' story of what happens in a MC. Respect to your club, respect to those that carry out that respect. All the none believers and haters might understand what its about if they watch this. Respect.. Honor.. Family.. and the love of riding as a MC
Only started watching SOA two weeks ago. Been binging it since. This was such a defining moment in the series. Katey Sagal delivering a masterpiece. Gemma being stronger than ever. Clay and Jax immediately dropping all their differences for a higher cause. Clay's sadness, Jax's anger and rather than divide it made them stronger... Very powerful. Hats off to the song choice as well. Never heard of Patty Griffin before this and now I am a fan. Such a beautiful song and so well chosen for the scene. Could not have picked a better song to describe Gemma. So emotional. Beautiful.
Mary, you're covered in roses, you're covered in ashes You're covered in rain You're covered in babies, covered in slashes Covered in wilderness, covered in stains You cast aside the sheets, you cast aside the shroud Of another man, who served the world proud You greet another son, you lose another one On some sunny day and always you stay, Mary And Jesus said Mother I couldn't stay another day longer He Flys right by and leaves a kiss upon her face While the angels are singin' his praises in a blaze of glory Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place Oh Mary she moves behind me She leaves her fingerprints everywhere Everytime the snow drifts, every way the sand shifts Even when the night lifts, she's always there When Jesus said Mother I couldn't stay another day longer He Flys right by and leaves a kiss upon her face While the angels are singin' his praises in a blaze of glory Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place Oh Mary you're covered in roses, you're covered in ruins you're covered in secrets Your'e covered in treetops, covered in birds who can sing a million songs without any words You cast aside the sheets, you cast aside the shroud of another man, who served the world proud You greet another son, you lose another one on some sunny day and always you stay Mary, Mary
Thank you so much for writing the words to this beautiful song. I just lost My Husband a little while ago and today I received some devastated new regarding my own health, some how this song soothed me, it was wonderful to know the words. Thank you, God bless
@Joanne Madden I was grateful to whoever took the time to write the words too. Aren’t music lovers the best people to know? Best Wishes and prayers to you. Ps Natalie Merchant’s ‘Motherland’ comforts me.I play that song every day x🤘🏻🙏🏻
@@anyoldorion Hi, thank you for the kind words and information about the song🌼 I will definitely look for it. Funny how music can affect our moods and sometimes even change it. God bless
Holy shit what a powerful scene when Gemma tells Clay and Jax what happened. Literally just watched it and then look up this song. Truly this was one of the most emotionally charged scenes in a show that I have ever seen.
no doubt I couldn't even believe how great this scene was. The look on Ron's face when Katey broke the news. Raw emotion and damn near brought a tear to my eye. All the songs were exactly what the scenes needed. Nice work all 'round. SOA 4 ever!
I usually listen to R&B music & that genre. However, upon watching this scene, with the song I found myself with tears in my eyes. I liked SOA, after this it became love. ♥. I love this song. Love Sons Of Anarchy.
I had a particularly bad day today. My heart feels heavy and my thoughts are clouded. Now it's almost night and the day is done. As I'm lying on my bed, listening to this song which fills my room, it gives me comfort. Hope my troubles are slowly washed away...
It's been awhile since your post, I hope things are better for you. I lost my Husband recently and received bad new from my doctor today, this song brought me comfort also. God bless
Probly the best and most emotional scene in the entire series. Seeing Jax's and Clay's face when Gemma is telling what happened to her always gets to me. You just see the tears in Jax's eyes and he needs something to hit. I did not cry in this scene but I did choke up a little.
listening to this song and watching this video now just makes me wanna watch this whole show from the very beginning again! Thank God for my dvd collection and Netflix! I love this show so much. 💜💜💜
This scene (with this music) was probably the most emotionally powerful of anything I've ever seen on television. I broke down while watching this scene.
Late to the party!! All these posts are up to and over 2 years old. Love the song! Considering I'm a Catholic especially, it holds a special place in my ❤️. I honestly wish they sung songs like this in the Catholic Churches. I truly believe if they did more people would be more inclined to show up. I thought the same when the movie 'Sister Act' came out! To bad the church didn't pick up on that! It's a beautiful song and true to the lyrics from the Bible Passages of Jesus's Crussafiction. Much ♥️ And respect.
Gemmas confession is probably one of the most emotional parts of the TV series it made me cry and I was hoping that Gemma would tell Clay and Jax about it i got wat i was looking for
Brilliant song and goes perfectly with the emotional fallout of the scene it plays through, Gemmas vulnerability, Jax's fury and love for his mother, Clay defeated and withdrawn, Opie moving on, haunted Piney drinking his problems away, Chibs self loathing and regret, Tigs remorse consuming him, Unsers divided loyalty and Half Sacks druged out mind after letting go of reality.
@Distancian, Yes she is magnificent in Sons of Anarchy but then Katey has always been one of my all-time-favorites, her range is unbounded and also, she kicks Major Butt at playing Halo!!!!
For such a drama with such vio, ence and such realness, FX's shows really have such great stories and such great dialogue. I find that to be the case with The Shield, Justified, and Sons of Anarchy. A distand third when it comes to those aforementioned shows but still worthy of the FX universe.
I miss this old times when Clay was still the pres and the good guy.. show went down when they made him the villian, he has a good heart and did everything for the club and his family
i listen to this a lot...love it, love the show....but it is more than that you see my daughter Sarah and her 3 babies under 3 died in a housefire in August 2011..this song sounds like much of her life!!...my poor baby and grandbabies...:(
I cried like a baby to also cried on the scene that Gemma got shot by jacks and the one where she was on the run and went back to charming to be with family and found out about Abel and when clay put hands on her.I love the movie there is a lot of sad scene watching it again now to good to stop.
The scene was amazing the raw emotion in all of them was brilliant I especially loved Charlie's expression his reaction as Jax was the most different to what I was expecting and the begging of the next episode when they tell the rest of the club Although I would like to point out Opie was a Winston I'm not completely sure but I think Lerner was Donnas maiden name xx
I can relate to this song. I lost my daughter to suicide. I feel left behind every second of every day. She is everywhere and nowhere. I know I will never be the person I was before. I LOVE u princess...forever.
I was crying like a baby during the whole scene!
Josie Serafin tig crying on shrooms " i am sorry " and this song in background * goosebumps , chills and feels *
Josie Serafin i cried like a bitch when Jax tapped on Clays shoulder...
+The Kadju me too I was teary eyed through the whole science but when he did that that was it
Josie Serafin the song made the scene more powerful
Dang, I'm glad these comments exist. So good to know there are other people out there for whom this scene was so incredibly powerful.
I think I need to binge watch this whole show again!!!
My wife and I just discovered this show. We're about to start Season 5. We're finishing about one season per week. What a great show with some amazing music.
Me too...patty griffin is the American poet....beautiful
this song during Gemma's confession-- just heartbreaking, esp. combined with Jax and Clay's reactions
09cokeefe powerful
It wasn't a "confession." She didn't do anything wrong. It was a disclosure.
Aaand the very next episode she almost fucked Tig ...
I still can't listen without crying...
💔😢💔😢💔
Everytime i watch the scene, i cry
This scene in Sons of Anarchy is one of the best scenes in the history of tv series imo. Gemma telling her boys what happened, the song, the impact it has on the whole story, Opies new family, Chibs troubles, the mushroom boys etcetc. Genius.
I agree, the song fitted with the atmosphere and also you could feel how they were feeling.
Absolutely. Jax's barely repressed rage and hurt when he hits the table after Gemma tells him... goosebumps! Jay and Clay's reaction early in the next episode, too:
Clay: How do you want to handle it?
Jax: We kill 'em all.
I still cry whenever I rewatch this scene
one of the most powerful scenes in the series!
I can't express in words how much of an impact SOA has been on me. I love you all! The people and story and music and it's powerful dynamics.
This song + Gemmas confession + Jax and Clays reactions = tears streaming down your face
I'm on my 4th round of watching the show I just can't get enough I'm like in a different world when I'm watching it
I cried throughout the whole scene.
MeToo
Milly Figueroa as did I
Bawled it. So cathartic. One of the most moving scenes in all seven series.
Yes - Sons - it was crying programmed :-)
Milly Figueroa A lot of people did myself included
I thanked the person who took the time to write the lyrics to the song down. I lost My Husband recently and today I received devastated new of my own from my doctor. Somehow this song soothed me, so thank you and God bless
Love and light ✨💛✨
@@ShelbyPickard thank you so much Shelby. God bless you
Perfect music for the episode. Patty Griffin is a superb songwriter and performer and deserves more attention.
so true that seen with Tig was totally gut wrenching, his total remorse over Donna. He truly wished it wasn't so.
Absolutely love this song...
3 years later and the scene still gives me goose bumps so well it was done.
Hi, I'm from 8 years in the future of your comment, still hits hard

I mite have to watch it again.. the show just did something to me.. its by far far far the best thing ive ever watched.. truly amazing
Cettemusique te prend aux tripes. Quelle série de fou .. bravo
Was für ein grandioses Lied, Danke Patty
Awesome song, awesome scene. From Gemma speaking about her rape to the scene showing Tig hugging that doll and crying, awesome.
Beautiful
This show teaches us to trust our families and never disappoint them no matter what, fam is fam !!
Cry every time i watched gemna tell jaxs and clay 😭❤😭❤😭

Such an amazing scene in series 2. That song still makes all the hairs on my arms stand up. Love love love Gemma!

One of those most powerful scenes ever shown on television.
Some scenes are legendary. This was one of them Breathtaking and gut wrenching.
Mary, you're covered in roses, you're covered in ashes
You're covered in rain
You're covered in babies, covered in slashes
Covered in wilderness, covered in stains
You cast aside the sheets, you cast aside the shroud
Of another man, who served the world proud
You greet another son, you lose another one
On some sunny day and always you stay, Mary
And Jesus said Mother I couldn't stay another day longer
He Flys right by and leaves a kiss upon her face
While the angels are singin' his praises in a blaze of glory
Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place
Oh Mary she moves behind me
She leaves her fingerprints everywhere
Everytime the snow drifts, every way the sand shifts
Even when the night lifts, she's always there
When Jesus said Mother I couldn't stay another day longer
He Flys right by and leaves a kiss upon her face
While the angels are singin' his praises in a blaze of glory
Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place
Oh Mary you're covered in roses, you're covered in ruins
you're covered in secrets
Your'e covered in treetops, covered in birds
who can sing a million songs without any words
You cast aside the sheets, you cast aside the shroud
of another man, who served the world proud
You greet another son, you lose another one
on some sunny day and always you stay
Mary, Mary

Brilliant song and goes perfectly with the emotional fallout of the scene it plays through, Gemmas vulnerability, Jax's fury and love for his mother, Clay defeated and withdrawn, Opie moving on, haunted Piney drinking his problems away, Chibs self loathing and regret, Tigs remorse consuming him, Unsers divided loyalty and Half Sacks druged out mind after letting go of reality.
