  • Here’s a selection of my favourite Neo-psychedelic albums. I’ve selected a mix of Neo-psychedelic styles and bands from different time periods. This is not a list of the best psych albums released just a selection of albums I really like.

Hello Jack! Cosmic Brian here! Glad to make your acquaintance! I love tripped out music so of course I’m drawn to the endless amount of late 60’s early 70’s psychedelia but ai am always looking for more modern bands that are carrying the torch for freak out music! I’m still new to most neo psych groups so this was super helpful! I will be checking all of these out! I subbed and look forward to checking your other videos! Peace ✨✌️👽✨

Cosmic Brian!!! The Trip Meister General!!! Love your channel Brian, you show so much great stuff. That Swedish band The Nomads sound magic… Five Years Ahead of My Time is probably my favourite psych song of all time, so I’ll be checking the Nomads out further! It’s hard to keep up with all the new psych stuff coming out at the moment! Cheers for watching, Jack

I was a big Punk fan but enjoyed the Paisley Underground bands and gigs in LA. A favorite band of mine from the 90’s is the Brian Jonestown Massacre. I need to check out Dukes Of Stratosphere.
Death Valley Girls are a current favorite. I love all their albums but the last two are very psychedelic. I haven’t dove into King Gizzard. There are too many albums and too many genres. It sounds like I should check out that one.
This is right up my alley. Glad I found your channel. I’m doing a vinyl finds video tomorrow and I’ll give you a shout out. I may even make an ultimatum.

Thanks Richie. I know what you mean about King Gizz… so much to choose from. Paper Mache Dream Balloon is a good place to start! Looking forward to seeing your finds video. Cheers, Jack

Great vid! I’m familiar with a lot of the bands but those I’m not I’ve downloaded thanks! Saw Of Montreal in concert this past year was an awesome show! You are quickly becoming one of the best channels in the VC in my opinion. Keep up the great work Jack!

Cheer pal! I’d love to see Of Montreal live. Kevin Barnes is a genius! I’ve not been to see any live music in a while. Last would have been Wu Tang & Nas. Thanks for watching, Jack

Awesome video, I'm surprised that Thee Oh Sees were not in this video.
I would recommend checking out the Claypool Lennon Delirium which includes the legendary bass player Les Claypool.
If you like Hawkwind, Have a listen to Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O.

Thanks for watching Jack. I’ve heard a few Thee Oh Sees albums, but don’t have any on vinyl… yet! So much good stuff out there it’s hard to keep up. What Thee Oh Sees would you recommend? They seem to release albums non-stop in their various guises. I’ve heard Les Claypool Delirium, Acid Mothers Temple (a little), but never heard Melting Paraiso U.F.O… cheers for the recommendations, Jack

@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3ufMy pick for the Thee Oh Sees album would Face Stabber, personally I quite like this album because of the genres that vary in this album. From a 70s Hard Rock style, Heavy Metal, to more ambient tracks like Captain Loosley, and tracks that use weird sounds like The Daily Heavy which always reminds me of a dogs toy.

Interesting video Jack with some great choices. Love both Dukes of Stratosphear releases. Not really given Brian Jonestown Massacre enough attention. The Coral are a favourite of mine and I have most of their stuff. Some others I like that maybe fall into the genre are Soundcarriers, Astra, Black Mountain, Greek Theatre, Trees Speak and El Goodo Cheers Dale

Many thanks Dale! I've not heard any of the bands you've mentioned, so will definitely check those out. It's hard to keep up with the amount of good new music these days. The Brian Jonestown albums between 1996-1998 are fantastic... any one of them is worth a punt.

Wow, this is a completely new subgenre to me. I didn't even know it was a thing. Regarding Echo & The Bunnymen, I made a video about three years ago called 'A look at Big Music', where I took at that movement. In it I question whether Echo & The Bunnymen were part of the Big Music scene or not. I don't think they were simply because they are English and so lack the 'Celtic' aspect that most other bands of that scene share in common. The only record that I have that you may regard as neo-pshych is Bellybutton by Jellyfish. Am I warm? I must admit that I don't know any of the examples you show in the rest of this video. Very interesting! Thanks.

Many thanks for the kind words John! I had to go and google “Big Music” as it was a new genre for me. Loads of the bands were Scottish, but I’d never heard them referred to as ‘Big Music’. I’ll definitely watch your video on the subject to find out more. I love Bellybutton! Unfortunately, I sold it back in the 90s when I got rid of my vinyl… it’s a pricey record these days! It’s definitely a neo-psych album with lots of power-pop influences too. A great record! Cheers, Jack

The Dukes of Stratosphere Chips album is in my top 5 albums of all time. Good call on that collection. I got them both on vinyl also. A must have. Awesome to see King Gizzard here as well. One of my all time favorite bands. Where do you even begin with their albums? They have a lot in this genre, but Murder of the Universe and Sketches of Brunswick East may be my favorites in this category.
I would recommend Jellyfish for the 60s sound and also some new kids called The Lazy Eyes that just released a good debut.
    Cheers from the USA

I'm a big fan of Jellyfish, just struggling to find a copy of Bellybutton that I can afford. I remember back in the day you could pick up that album for pennies! Not heard the Lazy Eyes, but that is a proper neo-psych band name! Will check them out! Cheers, Jack

@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf I'm struggling to find a vinyl copy too! They re-release it and sell out every time. Sucks. I met Andy Sturmer of Jellyfish in 1993 at a show. Spilt Milk Tour. Got his autograph. One of the best days of my life. (Back before cell phones! No camera in my hand!)

@@wyatt-rocks I’d imagine they’d be a great band live! Nice memory getting a signature from a favourite band. Around ‘92 I went to see Pixies at the Glasgow SECC. Skipped school and heard their sound check. Saw Kim Deal on a public telephone in the SECC and waited an hour for her to finish her call so that she could sign my Planet of Sound single. I sold it about a year later when I got rid of my vinyl 😕

    Thoughts on Jacco Gardner?

Hadn't heard of him before, but just gave a listen their and he sounds great. Right up my street! His band The Skywalkers sound cool too. His albums seem pretty reasonably price so will look to pick up one or two!

@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf His first album is a real gem. I believe Gardner played all the instruments except drums? Vocally similar to Syd Barrett, at least to my ears. Love it.

Chance of Ghosts from Olympia, Washington, United(?) States of America. Their first single,Monster, will be available on multiple streaming platforms on February 8. They asked me if they could use one of my old paintings, and I said yes. And they also want to use another one for their full length. I feel like a salesperson, presently. I am not. Just a fan of the band.
