- Unboxing my new turtles (to use in educational programming) from turtlesandtortoises.com!! I was very surprised with what they included in the box!

it's insane how many people don't know live animals can safely and effectively be shipped in heated or cooled boxes and are freaking out about it. 🙈 like... how are they supposed to arrive? tooth fairy? stork? road trip in a tiny turtle car?
Can you ship a cat or dog or bird like this?
@@samuelrs5138 No, with snakes and turtles they can survive longer without food and water (though usually you water/feed them a day or so before shipping) and in a dark box they won't get stressed (if shipped properly and not thrown about) where as dogs, cats and birds need a near constant water source, and will still become severely stressed in travel cases (you would definitely not use a cardboard box for these animals) if not already well acquainted with traveling. And stress can kill animals. But as these are different types of animals: snakes, turtles and similar reptiles/ amphibians are generally fine with shipping. Just research a lot before shipping and possibly consult a vet and the laws of the country/state you are shipping from and to.
How far can they safely travel?
@@samuelrs5138 Dogs and cats are also sent in boxes, but we call them "pet carriers" because furry animals get preferential treatment due to cuteness. They don't get heat pads or cooling pads, they get sippy bottles for water and a little dish of food. They also get bedding in the form of blankets, towels or newspaper. They are given a small carrier just like the turtles to stop them falling about a larger container in transit, which would cause injury. They can be shipped literally from one end of the globe to another this way, and it's very successful if the shipping agent is competent. I have had 2 dogs shipped from Far Eastern Asia to Western Europe this way. They arrived just fine, with wagging tails and good appetites.
E C pet carriers are for pet shops! Learn your facts! Just because your pets got shipped like that and are fine doesn’t mean a kitten would be fine!! 🤬

Maybe there was a piece of rubber band stuck under it and it contracted and made the package jump. Either that or Ed flung something at Emily while she was filming and she didn't miss a beat. XD

I need to adress some things:
1. She was pet um... fish? sitting the beta, don't worry the actual owner has a bigger tank for the little guy
2. Snakes need smaller enclosures, one in which they can fully stretch on two sides of it and preferably not made out of a see through matterially
Why may you ask? Well snakes usually live most of their lives in small spaces (like in small hole under a rock) curled up and only go out for hunting, so having such a huge space and the see through material actually stresses out the snake
This applies for most danger noodles
I mean, if you give them a bigger tank with lots of hides and generally really a big open space that's just fine if not better. My snake lives in a tank that is double her length on one side but because there's a lot of stuff going on she doesn't mind and is not stressed out. But yeah, if you want a vision cage three sides should be covered, one see-through side is okay though.

How long does it takes the musk turtle to grow up to 4inches?
At 2:42 it looks like the package had a rubber band wrapped around it, and the band must have shot off or snapped.

I absolutely love you guys and your videos, especially the snake hatching ones! I think it is so cool how you can cut them open and they just come out later and live! I hatch chicken eggs and if you even think about doing that with a chick egg it will surely die. So crazy the difference! I think it would be really to see videos on what you do with your babies after they go into the baby bins. Like how you introduce them to food and what you're feeding them!

I know this is an old video, but I just wanted to say I'm rather surprised that you would have a betta in a bowl with no filter or heater. Bettas need 2.5 gallon tanks or larger, a heater and a filter
Not really I have 1 in just a bowl
By doing that you are most likely shortening it's life, causing it blindness, burning it's gills, and putting it through constant stress

Kenneth Reyes You're right, they're two different species (mud and musk). Stinkpots are also called musk turtles. Sorry for any confusion!

nope, those are males and doesnt interfere with their living at all

You probably get this a lot but upgrade you fish in the bowl plz. I think it’s a betta. Get a 2.5. Or 5 g tank thx. O and get a filter and heater. By. 😇

I love Emily and Ed's videos, I was fascinated by the turtles, but that poor betta! She knows a lot about reptiles but not about fish huh? Maybe this changes later on but geez.
If I recall correctly, she explained that she was fish-sitting for a friend so that bowl was a temporary set up.

If there water turtles they can be under ground in the packed mud threw the whole winter and they prob can live in that box for prob a day or to cuz it has no air to breath unlike the mod they sleep under but it’s over night shipping so
Heat pads and comfortable boxes
The go into a form of hibernation usually, that just slows their metabolism and they are able to survive colder temperatures while doing this. They are still technically still awake.
The poor betta fish over in that bowl. If only people knew how to take care of them right! 😭
