Thank you for posting this! SX-3x00's seem to be somewhat difficult to access for repair/component replacement. Patience and great troubleshooting skills breathed new life into this unit, another saved piece of history!
I really need to get back into vintage stereos, get away from all the chaos in the world. I have a stack of like 12 old Pioneer, Marantz and Sansui that I need to repair
@@VintageAudioFan I was really obsessed with vintage stereos around 10 years ago and I used to pick them up from Goodwill for 20 bucks every week. Those Glory days are long gone, but now I'm looking for 90s CD players or other quality components that are hard to find. Instead of selling the stereos I bought I just let them pile up in my garage. Along with several speakers. Every time I think about selling them, I can't part with them. I love my old Pioneer SX
Greetings, Great Repair. I am having issues with my repair. I replaced the Q1-Q4 and the protection circuit trannies. It plays without a load however when I plug in headphones or speakers and give it a little volume the protection relay keeps tripping of and on. The tripping seems to be in step (beat) with the music. The protection transistor Q25 is not turning off. The voltage of off R121 560 (2w) is fluctuating between 16v and 40. The resistor tested good. I have replaced the relay, Q9,10. Q11/12. Q7/13 etc. With no load the voltage are correct except the right side is at 33v instead of 38 to 40 like the Left side. any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance! FYI I do have another working unit that I am comparing it too,
To isolate the issues, I suggest to check DC balance at both channel power amplifier outputs ( test points at between R337-R118 and R338-R119) first. The voltage should be close to 0 V. If the voltage is fluctuating, then the problem may be in the power amp section. Next step, if there is no problem on DC offset, I suggest to check or replace C116 (47uf 50v). The defective C116 may also cause voltage fluctuating at R121.
Thank you for showing replacement components and their basic specs...visually. So many others just gloss by this important information. Well done!

Very interesting, thanks a lot. I have the same model.
Great Repair. You make it look so easy.

They are my favorite brands. These old school gears really can sing.
