You don't have to worry about string height on the PATB type pickups, affecting string pull so much (and therefore sustain) because they wrap a "magnetic field" around the string.
Normally the more high powered the pickup, the more sustain is affected, but it doesn't happen really with the PATB type. I think they were created with this in mind.
I already have a PATB-2 Distortion on one Jackson guitar, and I'm thinking about putting the PATB-1 on the other Jackson I have because I can't live with the JB even with magnet swaps!!
I think the Parallel Axis idea is a cool one, even though most people don't like the way they look (You can always put a cover over them)!!

@@2112GTR 3 years gone by but maybe you’ll remember. Was the PATB2 a 24/7 flamethrower or did it clean up well enough for Van Halen and/or classic rock? How would you compare it to say, an SH-5 Custom and SH-6 Distortion, SH-4 JB, etc.?

What's your preferred height on this pickup??

Brian Mcgonigal I run the at 3/32 on both sides. If find at this height I get a fairly punchy tone out of them, and it doesn't appear to be affecting string pull.
