Transmission stopped up-shifting as my speed increased, wasn't sure about what the issue was, but all the related lights have been on since I bought the SUV used. I didn't need to buy/borrow/rent a tester, I unplugged both front wheel-speed sensors and drove my Hyundai around, then plugged them back in. I had all my gears back. Traction-control is great when it works, but I miss the old days of being able to tune an engine with a screwdriver.
Great video thank God that makes such a great abs scan tool, this is the correct way to diagnose the wheel speed sensor never mind with just a digital multimeter.
can you borrow or rent the tools shown to do it in this manner? is there another method by which you could use a layman's tool like a multi-meter? in other words, how can the driveway mechanic help himself?
There is no electronic test for the reluctor. You should look for damaged or missing teeth, and or breaks/cracks in it. This was a common problem on Ford Escapes a few years back. For wheel bearings, there are several inspections you can perform: top/bottom “play” aka how loose the wheel feels; Listen for a rumbling sound that increases in pitch with road speed; The same rumbling sound will get louder or quieter depending upon which way you are steering the vehicle as it transfers weight on and off of the side that is thought to be bad; Use a mechanics stethoscope with the probe on the steering knuckle/hub while rotating the wheel, listen for a rumbling sound. Compare that sound from wheel to wheel. If any of them have worn bearings it will be obvious; axle grease being slung around the inside of the steering knuckle or hub assembly.
we have changed the switch of the computer to a rava4 2011 and connected back to a new one but the abc light is on and the when parked the steering is hard and get soft after a few distance what can u advise me?
We need more info to try and help. What is the name of the part you called the switch you replaced and why did you replace it? What is the diagnostic code set ?
Do you know the size of the bolt in a 2000 Lexus RX300 wheel sensor? I need to run a tap down the hole. It is broken off. I will drill out remaining part and re-tap. Is it a M8 X 1.25. ?
HI DEAR I HAVE A CHRYSLER 300 2011 MY ABS LIGHTS TURNS ON AND AND TURNS OFF AND DE BRAKE LIGHT TURNS ON WITH IT I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ?? CAN YOU HELP MI PLEASE
It seems you possibly have more than one concern. It's best to take it to a certified professional shop to run complete diagnostics. Thanks for watching!
Would anyone be able to help me out, i want to tap into a wheel speed sensor in order to trigger a retractable spoiler at a certain speed. I'm having trouble understanding how the signal is sent or how I could use that for my needs. Any ideas?
That is a useful tool but here is my question. How to you test for air gap between a wheel hub, and the wheel speed sensor due to rust build up underneath the sensor? if this happens it will send a erratic signal and cause premature abs. If you could tell me how to fix this that would be very useful. Thank you.
8020johndeereseries - On a Passive style ABS System while rotating the wheel slowly under 3mph the tester will not show rotation if there is an excessive air gap like rust build up. We suggest comparing the other known good side as a reference.
The testing tools help make the testing task easier. Remember a diagnostic code is a system error, so the particular system corresponding to the code needs to be checked. Other diagnostic tools to help diagnosis system errors can possibly be used instead for active and passive ABS testing include, but are not limited to, a Volt and Ohm meter or a lab scope.
Different vehicles use different inputs and often multiple inputs to operate the VSC, which can include operation from the ABS wheel speed sensor. Thanks for watching!
vadz valderama The best thing to do in this situation is to use a scan tool to find out what the ABS code is. This will identify which part of the ABS system is malfunctioning.
The front bearing on the Venza has a Gen 1 double row ball bearing. The ABS sensor ring is on the CV shaft and would be tested differently. The rear hubs are different depending if the Venza has AWD or FWD. The AWD is similar to test shown in video and the FWD rear hub also does not encompass a speed sensor on the hub.
If you have an ABS light on it best to have a repair center that offers complete diagnostic review the concern. Correct equipment is essential. Tools like the test equipment in the video offer instructions and help with diagnostic but following manufactures instructions will determine root cause.
There are several different ABS pinpoint testers on the market. We do not currently offer this tool through SKF. The one we used for testing was a Waekon ABS Pinpoint Tester. Thanks for watching!

May i suggest something, when your abs light or engine management light keeps coming on do what i did and buy yourself a classic car no more bullshit ecu etc problems.
I have Mira eco idle system (eis) 2012 Need of experts opinion: Speedometer is digital and shows 30% more speed than actual. There is no engine check light. Fuel consumption is good and rest of all the things are okay. I have checked it from local mechanics. One person changed its software but in vain. Kindly suggest me the diagnosis of actual fault in it so that I may get it to the mechanic and ask him to correct the fault diagnosed by some expert. Thanks
+salem ogla It is one in the same. However, there are different types of sensors. Some sensors are outside of the hub unit and bolt to the knuckle, while others are built within the hub unit.
So in this vid u say that as long as your wss shows rotation then it is good. What if the wss is showing rotation but its reporting back 50 mph on the scantool but the rest of the wss are reporting 18mph which is the actual speed of the car so the pcm thinks thecar is spining tge tires so it engages the tc. I am under the assumption that my wss is bad. What r your thoughts. I already removed it and cleaned all rust from surface and put it back in and got same results.

We are showing two different checks. The pinpoint tester confirms the presence of signal (rotation) at the hub and then supplies a rotational signal to the EBTCM to check the harness. If you are using just a scan tool some additional tests may be needed. A resistance check on the harness may help and can be compared against the know good side.
I just bought this tester, tried it today and I got no reading of any kind, even on a known good wheel. The tester powers up, cycles modes OK, no help reversing leads, even connecting GND directly to BATT NEG. Tool only beeped when lead connection was interrupted. They'll be getting a call from me.
There could be several scenarios that would cause the tester to not give any feedback. Example: Testing an Active sensor with the tester in Passive mode. Are you rotating the hub so it generates a signal? Or, there could be an internal problem with the tester itself, or a problem with one or both of the test leads. Please make sure that both test leads are good, check the continuity of the leads with a multimeter. If the leads are good, make sure that the tester adapters you are using are making good contact with the sensor. Check the battery in the tester and replace it if necessary. If it still doesn't work, the tester has an internal problem.
well that didn't work lol .. my abs light and my brake light went off , but when I drove the car it went into low traction mode instead .. I think I would rather not have abs anyways
The test tool is needed to determine if the ABS is functioning correctly. Spinning the wheel without the test tool with not help in diagnosing the ABS operation.
The 2006 Tiburon has a discrete mounted ABS sensor and a press in wheel hub bearing which means that it is tested differently than a generation 3 hub and harness as shown in the video. Thanks for watching!
This is the best test of the wss I've seen.

I live in Connecticut is there a shop some where nearby? My abs light is on
I have a 2001 chevy lumina and it came without ABS system from the factory is it possible to install an ABS system in it.
SKF supplies certain hubs with the ABS tone rings and sensor, but to determine if a complete ABS system can be added it's best to contact GM.
Nice tools, have you ever seen rear wheel speed sensors going at half the speed as the front wheel speed sensors? Thanks!

What brand is the scan tool (model #)?
The tester unit that was used is a Waekon ABS Sensor PinPoint Tester Model # 20560
I asked about the Scan Tool Model # not the PinPoint Tester.
Felix Jackson It is a Tech 2. GM used this scanner for all GM cars and light trucks built
between 1996 - 2009.

Why would I wanna buy a expensive tool like that just to use once🤦🏻♂️
has anybody ever tried to rewire the reluctor gear wire to a wheel after they put a traction control rear end in their car?
