I didn’t quite grasp the metronome exercise. What do you actually do between the beats or covering those beats? Is the aim to concentrate on something without giving in to distraction?
Thanks, Anthony. The goal is to cover the beat. What one does between the beats is to focus on the goal of covering the beat. It's not easy and makes for a great brain workout. Extend the time between beats for as long as you can to really stretch your focus and concentration. Does this way of looking at it make sense?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM what does “cover” the beat mean? I understand that this exercise will happen between beats, and you can aim to extend the length between beats. But what do you do when you cover it? I don’t understand that part. Is it listen to the beat? Hold your breath? Concentrate on one idea?
Snap or clap to "cover" the beat. Then, during the silence, anticipate when it will come and cover it with the sound of your clapping or snapping. I'll have to review the video to see if I've been unclear. Historically, this is one of the most popular of the exercises I've shared, and I want to make sure it's clear to as many people as possible. Is there any specific wording you would add to how I explain it in the video so this is clearer?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM yes. The word “cover” could be understood as a metaphor, or have other nuances. So, even explaining the “clap” or “snap your fingers”, or even “silently have a bet with yourself of when exactly the beat will happen”, that would COVER the problem I had understanding it in the initial video. It’s a great exercise. I’m going to try it with my children.
Glad that way of explaining it helps it. I guess it's a common thing amongst musicians and I was in tunnel vision... Thanks for helping me clarify it! :-)
Thanks for checking this out, Fostin. I have a live stream replay about short term memory here: ruclips.net/video/ize_i_7TcuM/видео.html Please stay tuned for a formal video version coming soon. Thanks for your post and hope to see another from you in the near future! :)
I have been to a memory competition and did pretty well. It's not really that interesting to me, however. I'd rather focus on language learning. Do you compete yourself?
No with reference to this video like when I observe four things in person or four things in car which I did today...after how much time i should test my memory
Now I understand. Thank you. I would suggest practicing and testing in 5-10 minute sessions. Once a day should be fine, but you can certainly get more from a variety of sessions spaced out over time. Experimentation and exploration are the key.
Is this a memory test? ;) I've recently added a bunch more here: www.magneticmemorymethod.com/brain-exercises/ You can read them there to refresh your memory and learn some more. :-)
Hello, thanks for the informations, I would like to know what's your opinion in the game 2n-back, obviously played at a higher level, (above 5n back), limiting subvocalization? PS I tried to look on the comments but I don't found anyone mentioning it. Thanks again
I personally think it’s a waste of time and cannot fathom why it would help anyone given that it breaks the four rules of brain exercise. Give this a try instead: ruclips.net/video/eRFNXZxjGEU/видео.html
Thanks for your post. It's as described: pick a 3 digit number. Add 3 and minus 7, accurately tracking your progress and accuracy for as long as you can. Give it a go with pen and pencil first if you struggle to do it in your mind. :-)
Thanks for this question, Jaap. I do not think "replace" is the right word, but certainly musicians do get a lot of similar exercise. One thing to consider is the frame effect. For example, there was a study of hotel cleaners. Half were told that vacuuming, etc. was exercise more calories are burned when they take the stairs instead of the elevator (or something like this.) The other half were just told to take the stairs. Those who were told their work was "exercise" burned more calories and felt fitter than those who didn't. I don't know for sure, but perhaps there are people who could be getting great brain exercise as musicians, but aren't because they don't think of it as brain exercise. But at the end of the day, most of the brain exercises on my full website page are not related to music so I can't see how being a musician would get one close.
You could try that, Newton, but I don't think you would be getting the same brain exercise. But if you started with a 6 or 7 digit number and played plus/minus with that using 4 and 5 digit numbers, that would be a great workout, to be sure. :)
Thanks, Martin. I've written it up in prose on this blog post and discussed in in the podcast version: www.magneticmemorymethod.com/brain-exercises/ Hope this additional material helps clarify. :)
Sure thing. Take a 3 digit number, i.e. 477. Then add 3: 480. Then minus 7: 473. Now add 3: 476. Now minus 7... And so on. It's very good mental exercise. Is it clear now? Do you think you'll give it a try? :)
Thank you! I'll definitely try this. I just found your channel yesterday and I'm really excited to learn about these Memory techniques. I hope I'll learn a lot from you

@@hunterxhunter529 Then when you get good at this one, you can try multiplying the minuses and pluses to make it more difficult. Like plus 3 three times then minus 7 seven times. i.e: 477 *+ 3* -------------- 480 *+ 3* -------------- 483 *+ 3* -------------- 486 *- 7* -------------- 479 *- 7* ------------- 472 *- 7* -------------- 465 *- 7* -------------- 458 *- 7* -------------- 451 *- 7* -------------- 444 *- 7* --------------- 437

I'm glad you're interested in the Memory Palace, Sandip. Please take my free course. It will help you learn all about it: www.magneticmemorymethod.com/brain-exercises/
Jordan Peterson said working memory is the equivalent to IQ would you agree? The mind palace basically improves all forms of memory and these true brain exercises are different from brain game exercises these exercises translate over to mind palaces and memory techniques and focus and just awareness of your environment on a higher level it truly changes spacial memory on every level all of this together is essentially IQ because it would literally improve everything in your life not just one skills et and things like the memory wheel as well can literally improve decision making and just things like deductions on people, and mind maps very literally increase creativity if you combine all of these techniques with proper diet exercise and maybe some healthy good nootropics your brain has no choice but to change wouldn't that exactly correlate to a true intelligence change? Maybe it won't correlate fully to fluid IQ but your general IQ? Absolutely your performance will inevitably increase and that's what matters you will have a huge speed advantage in learning the issue is people look at the techniques individually but what happens when a person combined a multitude of techniques like what I described the techniques the human calculator guy does and more and then this person learns a ridiculous amount of practical information isn't that true performance increase? Especially if this person couldn't do any of those things before? They couldn't even read a page in a book and now they could memorize the main points of the book and comprehend it with a 90% accuracy and they could read it substantially faster if they needed to please get in contact with Jordan peterson and ask him about this explain to him these techniques all in conjunction is the answer to raising IQ and yes brain games are simply not the answer like he has stated, and the techniques individually are not the answer necessarily either but all of it together I'm a concrete powerful system that is almost unconscious is forsure the answer anybody can learn this and improve at ridiculous levels.

Then, to lear the Memory Palace better, make sure to complete a course that takes you thoroughly through it. You might want to take several so you have the fullest possible perspective.
Hope this helps! :-)
you're awesome thank you
Thanks for your post, Claudia.
Do you find any of these exercises particularly appealing to start working with? :-)
You are amazing.
Thanks for the kind words! :-)
Love you sir!!
Thanks! :-)
Which of these brain exercises interests you the most?
Recently came across your channle and this is quite useful thanks
Glad it was helpful! What are you currently memorizing?
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Biology terminology currently as well as English literature terms
Challenging and fun topic!
Good one Anthony
Thanks for checking it out.
Do you do brain exercises often?
It is very cool thanks
Glad you like this video, Anita. Thanks for letting us know.
Which of these brain exercises do you like the best? :)
You are the best
🙏
I have both a Shultz table and a synesthesia app - would you say that the same applies in so far as return of investment vs in game skill?
I would have to consider more details based on a holistic picture of your current goals relative to your skills.
Hi Anthony I saw your video i am really interested to know how you can boost up short term memory loss or visual memory
Thanks for checking this out, Fostin.
I have a live stream replay about short term memory here: ruclips.net/video/ize_i_7TcuM/видео.html
Please stay tuned for a formal video version coming soon.
Thanks for your post and hope to see another from you in the near future! :)
you have to participate the memory championship
I have been to a memory competition and did pretty well. It's not really that interesting to me, however. I'd rather focus on language learning.
Do you compete yourself?
Learning juggling on my pomodoro breaks rn
Fantastic. I love juggling and was just doing some the other day.
I like more repeats in mind because I want improve my English speaking thanks
Excellent to hear. Do you have any specific goals with English in terms of what you want to be able to speak about? :)
After observing when you have to remember it I mean after how much time I should remember it.
Thanks for your question.
What kinds of info do you need to remember? That will help answer the time question because not all info is equally complex.
Awesome video
Thanks for checking it out.
Have you worked with any of the exercises yet?
Let the subtitule in your videos i don't speak good english and the subtitule help me to understand your podcasts THANK YOU
There should be automatically generated English subtitles. What is your mother tongue? Maybe someone in the community can help?
What was the second method again?
Is this a memory test? ;)

Great!
Give this a try instead:

Can someone explain the add 3 minus 7 please? Or give me examples. I kind of understood it. But I want to make sure I am doing it right.
Thanks for your post.
It's as described: pick a 3 digit number. Add 3 and minus 7, accurately tracking your progress and accuracy for as long as you can.
Give it a go with pen and pencil first if you struggle to do it in your mind. :-)
Your are awesome 😊👍
Thanks for your kind words!
Which of these brain exercises do you like the most?
I have suffered around 10 strokes since August so my memory has been terrible.
Hope these exercises help you on your path towards exceptional memory. 🙏
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM I am working on it.
You've got this!
I'm learning to pay guitar and that includes learning music theory. Would that replace the exercises your talking about.
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Thanks!
My pleasure. Anything else I can do to help you out? :-)
Brain games for that brain gainz
Yes, and wonderfully how they deliver.
so add 3 3 times and then minus 7 7 times.. .. so if I just minus 40 from the number is not doing the same work to the brain I guess?
You could try that, Newton, but I don't think you would be getting the same brain exercise. But if you started with a 6 or 7 digit number and played plus/minus with that using 4 and 5 digit numbers, that would be a great workout, to be sure. :)
Vídeo muito bom
Obrigado! :)

What language do you need?
I don't quite understand the ADD 3, MINUS 7 game. Sorry I'm a bit slow when it comes to math. Can you please give an example
Sure thing.
Take a 3 digit number, i.e. 477.
Then add 3: 480.
Then minus 7: 473.
Now add 3: 476.
Now minus 7...
And so on. It's very good mental exercise.
Is it clear now? Do you think you'll give it a try? :)

Since photographic memory has not been shown to exist, it's unlikely to be that. Learning the techniques and practicing them is almost always the distinguishing factor. :-)
Cool

May be metronome beats and memory palace. And also repeating the words heard ......
Solid ideas - thanks!
if your way is the best why bother downgrading others .NEVER a good idea, just share, don't compare.
Apologies if anything came off as downgrading others. I don't find much use in denying that there are some questionable memory and brain exercise advice out there.
Comparison is a tool of human comprehension that is much needed, and I shall do my best to refine its application. Thanks for raising your concern. :)

Here are my current thoughts on IQ:

I have remembered a lot of mineral names and their composition using memory palace but sometimes I forget them should I write from which location I have remembered it for memorising it in long term memory
As you have suggested to make an Excel document for it in a video .
Are there any other methods for making it remember for long term memory?
Thanks for this post.
One of the other methods is rote learner, but I don't recommend it.
The Memory Palace is a means of gathering associations, but there are other means of doing so. I just don't focus on those other means because they're not particularly interesting or nearly as effective.
May brain is in able to remember things that I have learned
Are you interested in learning to use memory techniques to help make a positive change? That's what we focus on helping people do here. :-)
