Ill tell ya what we are sooo lucky to have capn Richardson living in our area!! I cant tell you how much ive learned in the last couple years!! Thanks again sir. Good stuff
I've got to say, you have a very professional channel. When I first came across your channel I thought it was parts of an outdoor TV show. Very well done sir, keep up the great work.
I'm a kayak fisherman from Tennessee. Will be saltwater kayak fishing this year in Florida. I've been looking for a video with this information. Thank you!! Told me just what I needed to know before rigging my rods.
I’m having so much fun learning new things Capt. Richardson! It never gets old! Thanks for all the tips on all your videos! Oh, and I also envy that wall!! Lol
*I bought these and used them at the river where I get snags often they have done a **enjoyable.fishing** recommend great job of not breaking along with some strong line I purchased as well. They are super durable and easy to use.*
Great episode Capt. What are your thoughts about length and thickness for live bait. I find reds, drum, and sheep need some length and depending on which your targeting line thickness is huge. I’d love to know your thoughts.
Hello Captain C A Richardson! Treasure "your" advice. What leader length and weight would you recommend for beach-surf fishing for Pompano, given that something other than Pompano, i.e. a fish with TEETH may hit my T & A Goofy Jig with Teaser, and I might at times need to relocate to Jetties fishing instead. Do you have a favorite "Lure Retriever" for such situations when you get your lure hung up in a pothole/other? THANKS for all you do!
Hello, Very helpful. How about just putting the correct leader on each bait with a loop on top and just changing faster that way, using a clip at the braid? I'm new to fishing. Thanks for help. :)
Your video is very informative. However, using braid with short leader tends the braid strands to bleed due to wearing ( repeated pinching with finger on casting). I am not sure if longer leader will have affect on casting distance due to friction of knot on guides.
What about saltwater situations? For example casting for bluefish and stripper from shoreline, or deep jigging for tuna? I use 1-2 rod lengths since it's what I've always used, but lately I've started questioning what the right length is.
Man that wall....need a baby bib definitely a drool factor there.😮Missed the whole video couldn't focus lips were moving didn't hear a word you said. I'll try again tomorrow.
Really digging your videos. Came across you while watching 1fish2fish. So glad I did! I’m fishing cape romaine just north of Charleston where our water is much more stained. Do leader lengths apply to darker water as well? I understand the line weight/lure size would but how important is a leader in murky water?
I would love to convert one of my spare bedroon to look like that Capt .of course my wife probably wishes she could convert me too ! Great info as always Your never to young or old to attend this University
thank you captain, well done. homosassa fl here your thoughts and advise on bringing leaders through your tip/guides, or not. tried the fg but i seem to rely on double uni. and i do not bring them to my tip top because they tend to weaken thank you send'em to the dentist!
David Sobol Check our the Albright knot. It’s a lot thinner than the double uni so it passes through the guides easier and the way it sits together seems to minimize abrasion. It’s also really easy to tie.
If you're using fluorocarbon leaders don't reel the knot through the tip top. It will, in fact, weaken the connection causing it to break. Fluorocarbon is stiff. If I gave you a small steel rod you can't just bend it immediately and break it, but if you bend it on one spot, the metal will fatigue and ultimately break. Monofilament/ copolymers are soft and can take more abuse going through the guides. But fluorocarbon is similar to that steel rod and each time you cast, the rod tip flexes and the knot and line are forced to bend with it as it leaves the tip of the rod, thus fatiguing the connection.
Great video as I’ve been tying 32 inch leaders for everything but I’ve been fishing in a kayak up till now, so the fish it fray snip some off re tie and I typically use 20lb mono for everything. So my question is what size lb wise leader should I be typically using? My typical setup is gold spoon the minnow by Johnson then top water and various shad tail baits including 3D shrimp etc ...
FloridaBackwaters again need dictates the leader weight. But for your shrimp imitation and spoon, 20# is fine. But your topwater leader needs to be heavier (30# plus) and short in length 15”. Appreciate the support!
I like the tips but you did not cover 5 factors. I only got 4 of them. 1. Surf/Top Water Baits LL 10-15 in 2. Power Fish Baits LL 2ft (24in) 3. Slow Catch/Finesse Baits LL 3ft min up to 4-5ft on clear water sunny days 4. Fast Catch/Finesse Bait LL 2ft to 30 in 5. ?? Where did I miss this one? Overall I watch another video and it did mention a couple but your was more detail with example of the lures. That is teaching with skills and not just words. Do you have a video on trying your leader line to the lures you used in this video? Thanks for sharing.
Yellowfin don’t get that big. Trolling the have no time to see 50 lb braid Should be plenty no mono leader. 30 lb test mono I used for years. No issues.
How about where to target Reds, or anything in Crystal River on a day like today. It was blowing 15 to 20. Tide was high at 2 pm. Fished out at low tide and moved back to the Mangroves with the tide. Skunked. Lol. Every lure on Earth in the boat. Couldn't find fish. Run and gun, nope. Slow and steady Ned rigging, nope. Rough day. Tucked my tail and trying to figure winter out. Mainly when it's blowing hard. Bay boat . No skiff. Can only get to some places. Skiff to come in spring. Ugh what a day. Lol
@@user-ii3up5zd7j I truly appreciate it. I tried fishing Creek mouths. But I am trying to fish artificial only. Guess I really want to make it difficult. Guess I will be in for more fishing then catching days. However, I do learn something every trip.
Not sure how far you are from Aripeka, but all of the back waters around this area and in particular the old sun coast mine are loaded with drum, sheep, reds, and snook.
I had to watch it twice. the first time I just drooled over all the candy hanging on the wall.great tip captain.
Brad Alden I hear that quite a bit!

Sounds like the Bob Ross of fishing…soothing presentation…
Bro, info u give is gold!
Just the right info there, and the right amount of time . I use your videos with our fishing club . All makes sense what your saying . Thanks.
Great review of leader choice. Thanks Captain

Great video, information. Definitely will use this information...
Capt. Great vid!! Would you do a vid on the difference between mono and flouro and how it affects leader length?
Aubrey Owen yes, we will put that on the list!
C.A. your information and presentation was outstanding !!!!
I always like if people start with : Why ? because that's where the thinking starts...great video !
Great stuff ,wish I was on the water when you were in Wrightsville beach . Great show !!!
Great video!
All of our water on the Texas gulf coast is dirty. Very seldom do we have clear water. Can we get buy with shorter leaders? Thanks for the videos.
Great episode Capt. What are your thoughts about length and thickness for live bait. I find reds, drum, and sheep need some length and depending on which your targeting line thickness is huge. I’d love to know your thoughts.
Ed Salt with natural bait many times if you aren’t fishing around cover, it’s about keeping leader light enough so that the bait can behave naturally
Great video, Thanks!. How do I choose the right lb leader to use on my braided main line? Should the leader lb match the braid lb? thanks
Excellent material thanks man

Great info! Thanks for the video! I’ll use your advice in the other side of the world now!
So if I start with 3 feet I am good for all and have plenty of room to re-tie several times

Great information. Thanks dude
So... 20lbs mono about 24" long will do it all pretty well. Got it. Thanks
Great info... just out of curiosity, have you ever used Seaguar AbrazX?... I recently purchased a spool of 25 lb... great stuff
Phil Tarbox honestly Phil, I have not but will look into it!
Thanx for making these vids.

What size leader line would you usually use for top water lures?
C.A., mono for the top water and flouro for the others?
great info,
I use jigs a lot, what is the best leader length for jigs, usually I use 4 feet leader, is it good enough?
I would love to convert one of my spare bedroon to look like that Capt .of course my wife probably wishes she could convert me too ! Great info as always Your never to young or old to attend this University

The kind of line on your reel makes a difference too. I use a longer leader with braid than mono because of visibility.
Deep sea . How long the leader length needed
Great information, thanks!
You should make a chart and sell it, with each type and what line size /length
What knot would you attach your leader to your Brad
I watch your show on tv when it comes on
Hi captain, any recommendations for leader lbs vs your braid?

Same. I'm literally writing this down as he lists them, I only have 3 and one line on clear water. Cap. C.A. help!!!!
man what a choice store what are your hrs.
What about trolling for yellowfin tuna?
Yellowfin don’t get that big. Trolling the have no time to see 50 lb braid Should be plenty no mono leader. 30 lb test mono I used for years. No issues.
Cheers Mate!
great video
He is certainly more knowledgeable than I am but it's hard to believe there was no mention of water clarity in this discussion.
Sir ur garage is more stocked than some tackle shops😂
What about for live bait
Isaiah Torres keep leader light enough so that bait swims naturally... don’t weigh bait down.
Anything you can teach me I want to know 😊
Great videos!
How about on a fly rod from shore...say using a closer minnow...
Bug baits? Like 8inch swimbait
Subbed.
But what about water depth? Thats got to be a factor. Great info tho!

Many of the Nature Coast fish find themselves in the back of creeks or in the river itself
That's going to matter.
Hi I would say 1.5 to two feet just saying
Where is factor 4??? Lol
Topwaters get thrown on all leader....mono spooled reel.
