For well over a year now I have been seeing the number 17 ALL OVER THE PLACE every day and multiple times a day. It never stops and my wife can no longer deny it because she sees it too. Then today I woke up with 153 flooding my mind (which is why I looked this number up and ended up with this video.
This is amazing! We've had others tell similar stories of "finding" this lesson after a long time of noticing 153. God has you on a path! Keep looking for those signs. Here is an explanation that I've read: “I am God” in Hebrew as אֲנִי אֱלוֹהִים (pronounced from left to right “ani Elohim”). Using the number equivalents of each letter (using gematria) in the latter Hebrew phrase, we see that אֲנִי = 1 + 50 + 10 = 61, and that אֱלוֹהִים = 1 + 30 + 6 + 5 + 10 + 40 = 92. If we add those two sums, 61 and 92, we get 153.
More than a decade ago, I learned from Nehemia Gordon, a Hebrew scholar, that in gematria as you mentioned , a number is applied to each letter of the alphabet even in our alphabet. The crux of the matter is, 153 spells out- sons of God. ♥️ What an honor the Master bestowed on these fishermen, to be referred to as sons of Yehovah ♥️. Yeshua referenced they’re names, Yohanan, YaCov, Cephas and the rest of his Blessed Jewish disciples would go down in history with words for mankind to prepare their hearts to receive the Holy Spirit and become “a light to the world”.
You are correct about the Hebrew phrase "sons of God" and that it equates to 153. John mentions the phrase "children of God" at the beginning of his Gospel - v 1:12 and perhaps he is nicely tying a bow on his letter by including it at the beginning and the end. But in the case of John 21:11, considering John's reliance on Ezekiel and the context of fisherman, the majority of scholars point to the Ezekiel prophesy about the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. I have looked at the Sons of God 153 number for 30 years, found one myself never seen published. Elijah had 51 soldiers burned up then another captain and his fifty burned up, the the third captain and his fifty had a different approach,”man of God, please let my life be precious in your sight .But last month I came across a young man on you tube called Truthis Christ 153. A whole hour of 153 I had never seen before.
As a lifelong fisherman it is my theory that John included this detail because it is exactly the detail a fisherman would remember..and it further proves that John was an actual eye witness to the event. Because eye witnesses include details like this in their accounts. John was a fisherman eye witness..but, the fish were probably just a little bit smaller than he remembers them…just kidding 😊
Absolutely right, it give full credibility to the account as an exact figure is remembered. Overspiritulising it with all these numbers devalues the credibilty of an eye witness account. Pure jumbo jumbo!
We know that was the number of fish in Peter's net but I never saw any special significance to it. Not enough to chase it down and include it in my Bible studies... why do you think that number had special significance?
I fully agree with you about the eye witness account. Sometimes reading about the people in the Bible you lose sight that these were real actual people. Don't quote me on it but I've heard before it was believed that there were 153 different species of fish known at that time, so the significance of the number could correlate with, "from every tribe and tongue", demonstrating that the gospel would reach to all peoples.
This reminds me a lot of the book "The Jesus Code(x)", It delves even deeper into the number 153 and it's meaning. If you are into Gematria and mathematics you are gonna love it!

When there is a conspicuous number in the Bible - like 153 - we explore to see if there exists a deeper meaning. By the way 276 is also a triangle number so his original audience would have immediately picked up on it - unfortunately we've lost that in our modern ways of reading the bible.
Not quite Preach is used 50 times throughout 47 verses. The first in Neh. 6:7 and the last in Rev. 14:6 Now in the Old Testament the word preach is the Hebrew word qârâ' and it is used 734 in the Old Testament. In the New Testament the word preach is the Greek word kērussō and it is used 61 times in the New Testament and you also have the Greek word euaggelizō which is used 90 times in the New Testament.

@@FigTreeMinistries I just found this on Reddit Ezekiel 47, 4Q252, the 153 fish in John 21, etc. Posted this on r/Christianity in response to another post that claimed that the most logical reason there are said to be 153 fish in John 21.11 is because fisherman count their fish. Although I'm still convinced that it's more complicated than this, I don't think anyone has been able to fully put the pieces together yet as to which exact traditions influenced which (in leading the author to choose 153 fish - a significant number in certain pre-Christian Jewish traditions). In many ways, this post is just a summation of modern research - although there's still more work to be done. I certainly value simplicity...but with the combined insights of scholars like J. Emerton, M. Rastoin, and especially George Brooke recently, there's good reason to think that the 153 fish (and other things in the narrative) was a clear reference to certain Jewish exegetical/gematriac traditions. Compare relevant parts of John 21 with Ezek. 47.9-10 (LXX): ...very many fish shall be there (ἔσται ἐκεῖ ἰχθὺς πολὺς σφόδρα)...And fishermen shall stand there from Aingaddi to Ainagalim. I don’t think john knew. I think he was just reporting the facts and 153 fish there were. It’s the Holy Spirit that cause that number of fish and created the number connections to Ezekiel. Chuck Missler could definitely appreciate this. Every word of Scripture is purposefully chosen.

I had a quick look through the comments and didn't see it mentioned but 153 has a property called Narcissistic number where if you take each number to the power of how many numbers so there's 3 numbers in 153, so 1^3 + 5^3 + 3^3 = 153. So it equals itself. It is a relatively rare property for a number to have. I have also seen it used in a ratio for an approximation of Pi. And I have also seen it as the gematria (the Greek one called isopsephia or something I forget the spelling) as the name of Mary Magdalene. Just a few little pieces of info.

Pythagoreans worshipped triangle numbers. The presence of 153 suggests that the author of John had some affinity for Pythagoreanism, or wanted to appeal to this sect of Greeks....assuming there were any still around at that time.

The scriptures were not written in English, so how could the word count be the same in Hebrew and Greek?Also, the Scriptures did not have chapters and verses at the time the gospels were written, so how could John be telling us where to look?

First and foremost, the value of "Gedi" (17) and the value of "Eglaim" (153) would have stood out in the minds of many in first-century Judaism. So when the event of 153 fish happens and is recorded by John - many would have known the significance of that number. The first reference for a first-century Jew is always to search - mentally - their scripture - the Old Testament, and they would have known where John was pointing them. You are correct about not having chapter and verse numbers in John's (Jesus' day) - but there were section breaks. You can see some of the section breaks from the Isaiah scroll found with the Dead Sea Scrolls: dss.collections.imj.org.il/isaiah. Also, there was strict discipline for those who copied the scrolls. They would count the letters and words of each verse to ensure they did not make any mistakes. Thus, if the word "Gedi" is the 153rd word in that section of the Ezekiel scroll - that would have stood out as well. I hope this helps. In the use of whole numbers makes it easy. From what is currently being pythogoras we just deduce he is talking about trigonometry.. formula is cosine squared for these numbers. The 666 thing is false.

153 has nothing to do with numbers but has a spiritual meaning as scripture is written in spiritual mysteries and spiritual meaning . You need to allow scripture to interpret scripture .Go to other verses with similar numbers and maybe the Spirit will reveal scripture meaning .Example : 150 is first used in Genesis in story of flood ,"prevailed upon the earth 150 days" .1John 5:5 "Who is he that OVERCOMETH the world , but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God". Interesting. I was not aware of that. I found this link: holymary.info/153hailmarys.html Many people point to a something St Jerome wrote in his commentary on Ezekiel. That according to a Roman poet named Oppian of Cilicia there were 153 fish in the world. But, this has since been proven inaccurate since Oppian never specified the exact number. Clearly many have puzzled over the 153. We won't be the last.

it's just an archimede's sum formula n(n+1)/2 the sum of the first 17 natural numbers is 17(18)/2. none of this has anything to do with pythagorean. this guy is not a numbers person
Thank you for your comment. Perhaps there was a miscommunication. My understanding is that the investigation of triangle numbers can be traced back to the Pythagoreans. Here is one explanation from the University of Regina Mathematics department - mathcentral.uregina.ca/qq/database/qq.09.98/matt1.html. The larger point - for a modern western Christian audience - is that in the ancient world there was wide interest in certain numbers AND that the Bible writers are among those who recognize the significance of those numbers. It has nothing to do with the rosary - although that is a popular misconception. The Catholic church did not exist when John wrote. The worship of Mary isn't sanctioned until after the Council of Ephesus in 431.
This is just ridiculous. It's just an arbitrary detail. Not something to make a whole doctrine on. If it would have been any other number, we'd be making a video about that. Some things in the Bible, aren't very important. Numbers being one of them. God doesn't even care to give us accurate numbers sometimes, as I don't think He's really interested in us doing this with the Bible, but rather figuring out what the words mean.
Why limit the mind of God. The Bible can be read on many levels. Jesus said, "Seek and you shall find." Why not ponder the word of God and discover the buried treasure that lies there.

Here is an explanation that I've read:
“I am God” in Hebrew as אֲנִי אֱלוֹהִים (pronounced from left to right “ani Elohim”).
Using the number equivalents of each letter (using gematria) in the latter Hebrew phrase, we see that אֲנִי = 1 + 50 + 10 = 61, and that אֱלוֹהִים = 1 + 30 + 6 + 5 + 10 + 40 = 92. If we add those two sums, 61 and 92, we get 153.

More than a decade ago, I learned from Nehemia Gordon, a Hebrew scholar, that in gematria as you mentioned , a number is applied to each letter of the alphabet even in our alphabet. The crux of the matter is, 153 spells out- sons of God. ♥️
What an honor the Master bestowed on these fishermen, to be referred to as sons of Yehovah ♥️. Yeshua referenced they’re names, Yohanan, YaCov, Cephas and the rest of his Blessed Jewish disciples would go down in history with words for mankind to prepare their hearts to receive the Holy Spirit and become “a light to the world”.
You are correct about the Hebrew phrase "sons of God" and that it equates to 153. John mentions the phrase "children of God" at the beginning of his Gospel - v 1:12 and perhaps he is nicely tying a bow on his letter by including it at the beginning and the end. But in the case of John 21:11, considering John's reliance on Ezekiel and the context of fisherman, the majority of scholars point to the Ezekiel prophesy about the pouring out of the Holy Spirit.

I have looked at the Sons of God 153 number for 30 years, found one myself never seen published. Elijah had 51 soldiers burned up then another captain and his fifty burned up, the the third captain and his fifty had a different approach,”man of God, please let my life be precious in your sight .But last month I came across a young man on you tube called Truthis Christ 153. A whole hour of 153 I had never seen before.
As a lifelong fisherman it is my theory that John included this detail because it is exactly the detail a fisherman would remember..and it further proves that John was an actual eye witness to the event. Because eye witnesses include details like this in their accounts. John was a fisherman eye witness..but, the fish were probably just a little bit smaller than he remembers them…just kidding 😊

I fully agree with you about the eye witness account. Sometimes reading about the people in the Bible you lose sight that these were real actual people. Don't quote me on it but I've heard before it was believed that there were 153 different species of fish known at that time, so the significance of the number could correlate with, "from every tribe and tongue", demonstrating that the gospel would reach to all peoples.
This reminds me a lot of the book "The Jesus Code(x)", It delves even deeper into the number 153 and it's meaning. If you are into Gematria and mathematics you are gonna love it!

Why would Luke included the detail of 276? By the way 276 is also a triangle number so his original audience would have immediately picked up on it - unfortunately we've lost that in our modern ways of reading the bible.

Posted this on r/Christianity in response to another post that claimed that the most logical reason there are said to be 153 fish in John 21.11 is because fisherman count their fish.
Although I'm still convinced that it's more complicated than this, I don't think anyone has been able to fully put the pieces together yet as to which exact traditions influenced which (in leading the author to choose 153 fish - a significant number in certain pre-Christian Jewish traditions). In many ways, this post is just a summation of modern research - although there's still more work to be done.
I certainly value simplicity...but with the combined insights of scholars like J. Emerton, M. Rastoin, and especially George Brooke recently, there's good reason to think that the 153 fish (and other things in the narrative) was a clear reference to certain Jewish exegetical/gematriac traditions.
Compare relevant parts of John 21 with Ezek. 47.9-10 (LXX):
...very many fish shall be there (ἔσται ἐκεῖ ἰχθὺς πολὺς σφόδρα)...And fishermen shall stand there from Aingaddi to Ainagalim. A drying-place for dragnets it shall be; by itself it shall be, and its fish, like the fish of the great sea (οἱ ἰχθύες τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης), shall be a very great multitude (πλῆθος πολὺ σφόδρα).
John 21.6, 10:
So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish (ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους τῶν ἰχθύων)...So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish (μεστὸν ἰχθύων μεγάλων), 153 of them. And although there were so many (τοσούτων), the net was not torn.
Besides some of the agreements in the Greek, it's been known for some time that the two placenames in Ezek. 47.10, (ʿEin-)Gedi and (ʿEin-)ʿEglaim, have a Hebrew gematria of 153 and 17, respectively:
עגלים: ʽ = 70; g = 3; l = 30; y = 10; m = 40
גדי: g = 3; d = 4; y = 10
The 17 is significant because 153 is the sum of all the numbers from 1-17.
But perhaps the best evidence relating to this is the chronology of the flood in the Dead Sea Scrolls text 4Q252:
And the waters swelled upon the earth for one hundred and fifty days (Gen. 7.24), until the fourteenth day in the seventh month (Gen. 8.4a) on the third day of the week. And at the end of one hundred and fifty days the waters decreased (Gen. 8.3b) for two days, the fourth day and the fifth day, and on the sixth day [the 153rd day] the ark came to rest on the mountains of Hurarat; i[t was the] seventeenth [da]y in the seventh month (Gen. 8.4).
Here, the ark comes to rest during Sukkot (cf. Ezek. 45.25). Water is, of course, an important part of Sukkot - and Ezekiel 47 itself is mentioned in the Tosefta in relation with it (Tosefta Sukkah 3.3-8). In fact, in t. Sukk., the waters of Ezek. 47 flow into the Sea of Galilee - precisely where the disciples are in John 21! Even further,
Sukkoth forms the background to the narrative of John 7.1-8.59 and beyond. In addition to the theme of light which runs through that section of the Gospel and may reflect some form of the lighting of lamps in the temple during the festival, the theme of water is also present. In particular the saying in John 7.37-8 concerning living waters is capable of being understood as an interpretation of several aspects of the Feast of Sukkoth, and one of these can be its association with baptism.

Finally, as early as the 4th/5th century, Jerome mentions 153 fish in his commentary on Ezekiel 47 (Comm. on Ezek. 14). I can't find a full English translation of his comments - but, from what I've been able to glean from the Latin, there's some intriguing stuff, and it seems that Jerome might have picked up on most things that modern scholars are just starting to explore. Maybe I'll try to follow up on it.
Complicated? It may appear so...but the combination of all these things suggests that it's not by chance. And perhaps the ultimate answer is a bit more simple than it appears.

I don’t think john knew. I think he was just reporting the facts and 153 fish there were. It’s the Holy Spirit that cause that number of fish and created the number connections to Ezekiel. Chuck Missler could definitely appreciate this. Every word of Scripture is purposefully chosen.

I had a quick look through the comments and didn't see it mentioned but 153 has a property called Narcissistic number where if you take each number to the power of how many numbers so there's 3 numbers in 153, so 1^3 + 5^3 + 3^3 = 153. So it equals itself. It is a relatively rare property for a number to have. I have also seen it used in a ratio for an approximation of Pi. And I have also seen it as the gematria (the Greek one called isopsephia or something I forget the spelling) as the name of Mary Magdalene. Just a few little pieces of info.

Pythagoreans worshipped triangle numbers. The presence of 153 suggests that the author of John had some affinity for Pythagoreanism, or wanted to appeal to this sect of Greeks....assuming there were any still around at that time.

Adding up the numbers on a roulette wheel, gets you the 36th triangular number, 666. There are also 36 possibilities,in craps.

The scriptures were not written in English, so how could the word count be the same in Hebrew and Greek?Also, the Scriptures did not have chapters and verses at the time the gospels were written, so how could John be telling us where to look?

First and foremost, the value of "Gedi" (17) and the value of "Eglaim" (153) would have stood out in the minds of many in first-century Judaism. So when the event of 153 fish happens and is recorded by John - many would have known the significance of that number. The first reference for a first-century Jew is always to search - mentally - their scripture - the Old Testament, and they would have known where John was pointing them.
You are correct about not having chapter and verse numbers in John's (Jesus' day) - but there were section breaks. You can see some of the section breaks from the Isaiah scroll found with the Dead Sea Scrolls: dss.collections.imj.org.il/isaiah.
Also, there was strict discipline for those who copied the scrolls. They would count the letters and words of each verse to ensure they did not make any mistakes. Thus, if the word "Gedi" is the 153rd word in that section of the Ezekiel scroll - that would have stood out as well.

In the use of whole numbers makes it easy. From what is currently being pythogoras we just deduce he is talking about trigonometry.. formula is cosine squared for these numbers. The 666 thing is false.

153 has nothing to do with numbers but has a spiritual meaning as scripture is written in spiritual mysteries and spiritual meaning . You need to allow scripture to interpret scripture .Go to other verses with similar numbers and maybe the Spirit will reveal scripture meaning .Example : 150 is first used in Genesis in story of flood ,"prevailed upon the earth 150 days" .1John 5:5 "Who is he that OVERCOMETH the world , but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God". Number 150 is connected with OVERCOMETH/PREVAILETH .,which is pointing us to believers . The disciples became fishers of Men ,Mathew 4:19. John 21:11 is pointing us to followers catching men in the net on the Gospel . Number 3 is connected to "manifestation". As in three men appeared to Abraham which were manifestation of God .Hence 3 is spiritually pointing us to manifestation ,either for good or bad .

Many people point to a something St Jerome wrote in his commentary on Ezekiel. That according to a Roman poet named Oppian of Cilicia there were 153 fish in the world. But, this has since been proven inaccurate since Oppian never specified the exact number.
Clearly many have puzzled over the 153. We won't be the last.

it's just an archimede's sum formula n(n+1)/2 the sum of the first 17 natural numbers is 17(18)/2. none of this has anything to do with pythagorean. this guy is not a numbers person
Thank you for your comment. Perhaps there was a miscommunication. My understanding is that the investigation of triangle numbers can be traced back to the Pythagoreans. The larger point - for a modern western Christian audience - is that in the ancient world there was wide interest in certain numbers AND that the Bible writers are among those who recognize the significance of those numbers. Most modern Christians today do not have an appreciate of the use of numbers in the Biblical text.

It has nothing to do with the rosary - although that is a popular misconception. The Catholic church did not exist when John wrote. The worship of Mary isn't sanctioned until after the Council of Ephesus in 431.

This is just ridiculous. It's just an arbitrary detail. Not something to make a whole doctrine on. If it would have been any other number, we'd be making a video about that.
Some things in the Bible, aren't very important. Numbers being one of them. God doesn't even care to give us accurate numbers sometimes, as I don't think He's really interested in us doing this with the Bible, but rather figuring out what the words mean.
Why limit the mind of God. The Bible can be read on many levels. Jesus said, "Seek and you shall find." Why not ponder the word of God and discover the buried treasure that lies there.

Details like that don't matter, and God wants us to pay attention to the broader measures of the law, and not finicky things like this, such as what the Pharisees did with the Law.
