this videos are just helping a lot, i’m without my bike for like 7 months now, and i’d just miss riding
That was a year ago, how's it going now?
Feel you man
I'm in the same boat brother, just trying to keep my mind on a brighter day in the future when I can ride again 💪
I'm recovering from surgery and will be off for 2 weeks, 7 months sounds like hell dude
Me too, I lost my home and my bike and now have to take the bus around >:o
Peep me at 2:51 giving Terry a fist bump. That shit really hurt my hand 😂😂. Also my name's Nick by the way 😁✌️
A ha I knew it! That was a solid ride by bump Nick :)
Terry Barentsen what bike are you riding?
NICK!! hey how many miles you think his round trip was?
Nicckay!

As a cyclist from a teeny tiny german village with just about 2000 residents seeing you guys ride in between those cars gives me anxietyXD you go, man nice video
Ah, you can do that in Berlin!
@@carmafluxus I wonder how drivers in Berlin react to such a ride?
I was riding in Berlin couple days ago, and got screamed/honked couple times 😂😅
A motorcyclist even followed me for a good while shouting something at me
People ride quite crazy there tho, in comparison to the city I live in
lmao same here, hate riding thru cologne because of this, atleast i got a Rückspiegel lmao
@@aalleexx1997 lol imma be riding fxd tomorrow in Cologne, let's see what is it all about haha ;D
Green light = go
Red light = go when you can
Green light = also maintain full awareness :)
Seriously? I thought red was for dodgeball.
Thats how we ride in The Netherlands :)
That's New York for u
@@booker4899 That's everywhere in the US.
The fact is in germany you can lose your drivers license as a cyclist but when you dont have a car anymore its irrelevant you can drive your bike anyway. lol
“Drive your bike” brb gonna go kill myself real quick
"Why is he going so fast?"
Lol, that was my question the moment you guys set out. I was like "holy shit these guys are hauling some ass" haha
If you've never ridden a "road bike" before they are lighter and so much faster. Even heavier road bikes can still out race a light weight mountain bike. It's all about the geometry, wind resistance and that crank.
@@multiverse439 lmao I have a heavy ass full suspension bike that I use for both mountain biking and road biking. I wonder how much easier a road bike would be to ride on the road.
@@seano1723 Its significantly faster
@@seano1723 depending on how aero you would be on said road bike va mtb you would normally gain 15-20% or about 2-3mph range. But it can vary from person to person. If you want some easy gains on your mtb get some slick tires if you just road ride with it.
@@seano1723 ha, same here mate
apparently traffic lights are just recommendations in NYC
It will always be mental to me how Americans know the names of every road
Where are you from lol? It's pretty essential knowledge
where i’m from i don’t know any street names. i know the street i live on and i call the streets by different names.
NYC grid makes it easy to always know where you are. Lived in London and Rome for a while - a wonderful spiderweb. I love not knowing where north is sometimes - hard to get that in big American cities though.
@@dirtyhipstergolf8412 you find north by looking at the sun. learn some astronomy lol
Kevin Schart just make sure you stare directly at it.
i like how you greet each cyclist you know with such a joy. :D
Even the ones who don't know him ☺
Love that too! Btw, don't forget to wear an nta helmet like xnito or bern hudson if you're cycling, cpsc helmets don't really protect you
“Was 34 degrees earlier, now it’s 40. It’s actually warmed up quite a bit”
As a Floridian, we’re talking 85 in the morning, then in about a half hour it’s about 92
Me watching mountain bike videos: Sweet that looks like a badaas feature.
Me watching this: Why would anyone ride on these streets
Because stores are in thr city...etc
Because you get to race against cars
Because the hotline is the most beautiful feeling in cycling catching greens is the closet pedaling gets to surfing imo
anybody else ride motorcycle and getting alarmed at the lack of shoulder checks xD
i think its a chest camera rig so you cant see the movement
EXROXX I was looking at his shadow and the guy in-front, I think it’s a gimble too so it’s ultra centred
Yup 😬
Thats the first thing i thought off.

Been really depressed lately . the vids along with riding helps . thanks .
I hope you get well soon buddy! Make sure to ride if that helps too
What bothers you?
Stay strong mate, you got this!
Riding is also my main antidepressant! Wishing you a peaceful day.
Man. Start winning more. It helped me a lot. Even small wins. The riding is the most important thing. I still get depressed but cranking out lots of miles keeps it healthy. Peace be with you. :)
What is your camera set up? It seems so smooth, stable and immersive.
GoPro attached to a chest gimbal. At least that’s what I’m assuming based on the amazon list in the description.
@@NotTheLarryDavid I see why he would use a gimbal, it's so much better than what my videos look like with just a chest mount.
@@pioneltapinessi947 The second best thing is a chin mount because your head naturally stabilizes motion, but it's only feasible in MTB environments.
@@pioneltapinessi947 You don't need a gimbal with the GoPro 7 or 8. They have "hyper smooth."
@@NotTheLarryDavid i think eyes stabilize the image more than head does, cameras use similar principle for stabilization, good point though!

I wear gloves most of the time, except on hot summer days. Still have the scars from the fall that convinced me to do it. It was not even a huge fall, just a slide on sandpaper tarmac.
I always wear glasses cuz I'm terrified of a piece of gravel or something else flying into my eyes.
:( thanks for the advice, I'm going to use them
I used to wear gloves as well, same reason, a scar in my hand reminding me of how fucked up it was but I just slowed down my pace.
Gloves look cool anyway
@@wartupper why slow down when you you have the skill and and ability to go faster just wear more safety gear
love this kind of video, it's so chill just listening to you chat as you ride
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to incorporate more of these in my daily uploads :)
Same here. This is quite entertaining as I haven't been to the States. Really chill and casual ride. Digging the contents man.
YES THIS IS IMMERSIVE
Terry: mellow coffee?
Richard: head down sprint bro
Wow, so dry, no mud, no snow or rain. Im jealous here back in Saint-Petersburg.
what's the speed limit on these streets?
never been to NYC, but man this feel more like GTA biking!!!
25MPH in the city
@@dewdropper3614 for cars tho LMAO
This kind of riding would never fly in my city. Watching this is both gut wrenching and freeing at the same time. I dont know whether to hate them for blowing reds or love the city because everybody around is like totally not surprised by it or think its bad.
Maybe red lights mean something totally different in New York than the rest of the US
Means something different to cyclists in big cities, for sure.
I always was told that you are another vehicle on the road so you should follow the rules/laws. With some exceptions depending on the situation. I grew up in Far Chicago suburb
Give way lights lol
@@hayzmation5354 it does not... entitled
I thought red light is only for motor vehicles, so bicycle doesn't count. I always go past it whenever I can.
Yall should stop into my shop, Hilltop Bicycles, left turn at the base of the Williamsburg on the Manhattan side
You have a bad profile pic for self promotion
NateBit lol
As a Dutchman I find those cycling conditions an atrocity.
this was some of the best spots to cycle inside the city. many sections of the bronx and upper manhattan are much much worse
I live in Chicago and it's even worse here despite being one of the best cities in the country for biking. But we make do with what we can
I live in Baton Rouge.... There are no bike lanes, occasionally there's a sidewalk or two. America is not bike or pedestrian friendly.
“I think it’s Chris, might be Nick or Mike”...all similar 🤣👊🏻😜
I use to completely disregard red lights and traffic rules when cycling, then I started to drive, and now I would not dare go through a red light when cycling. Driving really tames you up. Don’t start driving people!
L A well I used to be a rebel bicyclist and not be concerned of “road rules” at all. Then i got my license and started to drive a motor vehicle. Now when I bicycle around, I follow all the rules, perhaps because I’m afraid of getting a ticket or perhaps because I adulted.
@@shawnyblaze i follow the rules so i dont get hit
RB86_Racing me too. But when I was young and there was no chance of getting hit, I may of not of followed all the rules. I was not afraid of getting a ticket and I had no moral obligation to follow the rules. Have you ever wondered why whether your in a car or on a bike you wait for a red light when you know there are no cars for miles and no cops for miles. It’s because we are brain washed!
The system got to us!
The more I think about it. I think I’m gonna start going through red lights again, whether I’m driving or cycling. I am not a puppet that can be controlled dammit!
6:49 anxiety
Adrenaline to me:p
It sucks that the bike lanes are unusable. Would be nice if an American city could figure out a good bike system like Amsterdam. Here in Detroit they implemented a new bike lane system but its too small to be useful to commuters
I’ve ridden this long one mile Williamsburg bridge many times and must say, the guys and gals on single speed bikes are some of the strongest riders I’ve seen. Kudos! You rock Subscribed!! 🚴
@Terry - Love these casual rides and talks too, man. You've giving us the whole buffet here; Action vids mashing through the streets, live streams, and casual rides with dialogue.. And your video edits are getting more and more dope my dude. I just tried out a similar video to test out my GoPro and openly chat while riding through the city..It's actually hard to articulate your self while negotiating traffic, but so much fun! Anyway, keep crushing the game man.
Wow i've been bike commuting my whole life, but in a suburban area. I can't imagine trying to bike around this many cars and people and going between them so effortlessly!
you can do it
Yeah I'd die
scared me lol
I love NYC videos, feels like I’m traveling there.
More Chasing Strangers Videos if you can.
Thank you chaps, for that little cycle tour of some of NYC. It was fun, and looks quite chill actually. I especially liked the proper cycle lane on the bridge at the beginning, what a nice way to approach a world class city every morning! I'd love to bike around NYC for a bit! I'm from England, and have a growing hankering to visit NYC. This has fuelled it even more... I'd not thought of cycling around there, but why not? I cycle around where I live in England! Excellent vid! Keep pedalling, gents. Be safe and enjoy....
Every "no drop" ride turns into a crit at the ten second mark. I like that he did it, that you recorded it and showed us the ride, and you liked it (we could tell). This kind of riding is what gets "us" over the blues (as you mentioned in the Croton aqueduct short). Keep smiling and chasing those troublesome sprinters down. "They give bicycle riders a bad name." :)
Man in the beginning of this video yall were going so fast I though it was green screen lol.
I'd have a meltdown and cry if I had to bike there like that. So many streets and cars and crossings and so much weaving through traffic. I get scared just watching, bombing downhill seems safer.
I wish my city had infrastructure like this, coming from Seattle this looks like biking paradise. My routes are super sketchy.
I mean, it gets easy and fun when you do it a lot.
I really liked this format Terry, a chill ride with that view of your hands, it's a nice change of pace and good filler in between those more hardcore hotlines. Keep up the good work man, wish you all the best 🤙
Great video man. Liked how smooth and flowy the city felt. I'm sure it's not always the case, but, this video got me subscribed.
I kinda like this chilled out style of NYC riding. More please, just film every ride lol 👍🏻
Man oh man great ride video!! I hope people realize how nerve wracking and fun riding in the city is..you are so alert at all times.. great rush!!
Acting surprised when you get splatted after running that 10000th red light.... Priceless

Please don't ride like this...
The shadows from buildings in the winter is something I will always miss not living in the city
I don't live in a big city and therefore ride my bike only in a quite rural area. Once when I was in a big city, riding my bike there made me literally shit myself, now I watch this video and feel a mixture of chill and anxiety :)
Feeling blessed with another riding content from you Terry! 😁🙏
the view on the bridge at the start is crazy
"not gonna do anything crazy, just a ride" - famous last words ;)
Thank You for all the videos man. Really appreciate them here in South Africa.
Watching your videos makes me wonder why new York is considered bike friendly
Who considers it bike friendly?
Riding in NYC looks so fun man. Great video 👍🏼
This was my commute when I worked at 6th and 34th! Can definitely confirm 6th Avenue danger. One and only car related accident I've ever been in was 6th and 32nd in a bike lane.
I rear ended a car on my bike 2 blocks from my work too. Humiliating
watching this mellowed me tf out and its my first video ive ever watched of you. Love this, makes me want to pull my watanabe out of hibernation. Subbed
Love the vid. Colours awesome, listening to you awesome. I wish i lived in a bike city, used to ride all over london. Loved every minute of it.

Glad you left. We hate you rich spoiled phony hipsters.
1st ave is sketchy, but I love the speed consistency - ride on!
I like the first person camera position that you have
My most memorable daily cycling was when I lived in Amsterdam for several years. Rush hour bike traffic is something to experience and as you all probably know, the bike paths are second to none. You better know where your going, or you might get cutoff by grannies and school kids.
Just subscribed and love the commentary and clarity of your videos. Are you using the GoPro Hero 8?
I know this kind of riding gives people anxiety and gives people a bad name but I absolutely love it. Richard has a fire under his ass lol, as someone that rides mtb, idk how the hell you guys can boogy so fast in jeans!

I got to be honest we all love cycling videos this is just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I've been in NY back in 2018 and got amazed by how many cyclists is there. Here in São Paulo we got a daily struggle with drivers for our space in streets. Would be amazing to be in NY again with my bike to explore and feel the city in two wheels. Simple but inspiring video!

I simply love New York's landscape. The first time i've been there was during the end of 2018's winter with my brother and a few friends, maybe two weeks away from spring, the wind was soooo chilly on that day (specialy for someone like me that lives on a hot country). This video brought back some good feelings and memories! It makes me want to go back so bad!

more and more of this stuff, Terry!!
Great videos man! Richards got some sick glasses 👍
Doesnt every ride with a friend end up feeling like the audition for the next hotline?
Unfortunately I feel like I’m that friend 😅
I love the way you drive, always so fast and fluid! Nyc is really a great city for cycling and I can't wait to share my point of view :p
If you ignore people parking their cars on the bike lane, people opening doors without looking around, driving into you and people jumping red lights, then yeah, is a great city to drive.
Haha, never forget my first time flying off of the willy b into Manhattan. V spooky.
so many times during this video i just thought "was that really the BEST way you could've gone or was that just the most flashy?"
Last one I was watching he was going in front of folk crossing teh road instead of behind where the bigger gap requiring less of a detour was, so was basically slowing down needlessly multiple times.
The attack on the bike is INSANE!

How'd it go?
How'd it go, and why a fixie?
I love it so far! I went with a fixie bc it I've wanted to experience the feeling of riding bikes different and wanted something that was slightly more of a challenge. I ride just about everyday and I'm absolutely hooked. I believe I've clocked about 200 miles since I've gotten it. I like how you have to ride a little more consciously
