Thanks for watching! I guess I could've talked more about the necessity of staying low after your serve than I did here, but let me know what else you might have questions/suggestions on!

Hi Olav, firstly thank you for sharing your experience and providing great insights on the game. I have a question for you - How do you see yourself playing when you have reached the age say 50 years or more? What changes would you like to bring to your game from strategy perspective when your legs don't bend or your can't move that quick enough? Another one - Nowadays there is a craze of using hard, hybrid rubbers, but I feel that these rubbers are demanding on technique. Do you think that amateurs, club players should use these "Pro" labelled rubbers or does using a softer rubber makes sense? Basically, who should use what and why?

I hope I won't be playing anymore at that age... I feel too old already.
For the equipment: don't care too much. Just play with something softer or slower as a beginner and gradually increase the speed or hardness of your rubber when you feel you need to.

@@OlavKTTTcan you make video about backhand topspin against serve?

Great video as always. If you've had enough time, would you mind if I asked you make a video about the bat grip in particular the backhand grip and the position of the thumb. Some coaches say that your thumb should never touch the rubber during backhand top spins flicks etc... It is a little bit confusing for me hence the video request.

It depends on how long you've been playing. If you just started out, then I suppose it isn't a big deal to make a drastic change such as a new grip. The problem is when people/coaches want to work by the book and neglect the things that work for you, and have worked for you for many years. I have a bad grip (like really really bad), but I would never try to change it at this point, because that would make other parts of my game completely fall apart.
However, let me just say that I never received any 'tips' on not having my thumb on my racket with BH. You do whatever you want with that information. I think if you want to reevaluate your grip, 2 things should be most important:
-How much you need to change your grip between FH and BH (Dima Ovtcharov does this excessively, but he is an exception of a player where this works).
-How much your grip limits your ability to perform a basic shot correctly.

@@OlavKTTTThanks for your reply. This is interesting as what I learned from watching some RUclips videos and reading blogs was that it is important not squeeze on the rubber by your thumb while performing the backhand stroke as doing so would limit your wrist twist to get the right angle for the stroke. I tried that and I immediately noticed the difference. So I just wanted to hear from you to confirm what I learned with regard the thumb thing. But you are right whatever works best for you, even though it might not be the perfect and widely agreed-on grip, just stick with it.
Thanks again for your informative comment.

Someone told me against people who love to banana flick from wide FH serves , if they do it too much to serve to wide BH as variation (similar logic to how FH dominant players are surprisingly weak to wide FH because they try to cover BH as well).
This is what I thought you would say when you mentioned counter intuitive, thank you for the tip with serving topspin, someone did this to me a few weeks ago and I found it really hard to deal with, all I could think to do was to try and mix up the recieve with pushing the short topspin ball long as well as my flick was getting countered too easy
