Martell is a Cognac house founded in 1715 by Jean Martell (1694-1753). It is part of the Martell Mumm Perrier-Jouët subsidiary of the French wines and spirits conglomerate Pernod Ricard.
Interesting! I have a few things that do me that way and I steer clear of them. I might hold off a bit
This cognac has a lot of E150. That is the caramel coloring. Could be the boise' as well ? I thought it was descent bottle. I think this one just disagrees with you. To check for E150 before you buy something - use your flashlight on your phone and hold it under the bottle. If the light shoots "red" on the liquid, it has E150 or boise'. If it shoots "amber" color, then it probably has no additives other than distilled water. Hope this helps.
It does. Extremely useful. Are there are other Big Four Cognacs you know of that use a lot of E150? I am working on some HINE Rare for an upcoming review and it was amber, more so than a bottle of Hennessy VS I have laying around.
@@darkspirits6498 I did the light trick on the HINE Rare VSOP and it shot completely amber for me. Hennessy VS shot red, last time I had it. Remy, Henny, Courvoisier, and Martell, all seem to use E150 at the VS and VSOP levels. At the XO levels and higher the E150 is used a lot less if not at all since the older stuff gets its color from more time spent in barrels. The Cognac makers add it to their lower and mid-range stuff, sometimes by pressure from their distributors, because they always want the product to look the same over and over. Sometimes the makers also use it for stuff they export to China, since it is thought over there that a darker a Cognac is the older that is. But that is not always true. It depends on each house and how the Cellar Master manages their barrels. I think of E150 like steroids in bodybuilding. I appreciate the guys that push their bodies to the absolute limit with extra stimulants, however I also appreciate the honesty of guys who push themsleves to the limit naturally. Sorry to go for so long. You have a great channel my brother, and I will be in your corner !
I think u the only one got headache from red barrel. I bought it again n again and only get drunk from it
glad you can enjoy it. i'm good with the Martell Blue Swift tho.
So you’re saying it’s not you it’s me.
Exactly. This is a 'new' formula so I'm sure they will make an adjustment and dial it in.
@@darkspirits6498 I got one yesterday and it’s smooth. It has a dry fruit quality to it that feels a bit gimmicky almost artificial. I was between this and the Remy Martin and picked this. I’ll pick the RM next time.
It's the worst drink I ever had, the whole thing smells like turpentine and taste like bubblegum.
They made up for it with the Blue Swift.
