Thanks for trusting us with your gear, Mark! And cheers for the shoutout. Laine
Just bought this in the shorter size for my first overnight trek. Thanks for the demo on how to inflate!
Mark, great review. I've been retired for seven years now with motorcycle camping a big part of my life. Minus the Helinox cot, my experience has been similar, first just a foam pad rolled up in a trash bag, second a self-inflatable, third an inexpensive inflatable, now an Exped insulated inflatable pad that's worth every dime for me. The only complaint I had was, as I set up camp in different locations each night, I didn't like inflating the pad so bought the optional Exped inflator dry bag which works great. I was impressed that Sea to Summit was thoughtful enough to include a stuff sack/pad inflator, good company.
I’ve got one of these and use a stretcher bed as well and it’s the best thing going together
Nice one Mark. I have been looking to replace my Klymit Static V Insulated for a while and wanted a Sea to Summit (to support Aussie business) but the older stuff just didn't have what I needed. Looks like this might fit the bill, time for a deep dive 👍
I'd recommend!
I've just picked up one of these mats in large. Light, compact, easy to inflate, deflate and best sleep ever whilst camping! I'm 86kg and 6ft 3 and side sleeper with a bad back
Thanks Mark you're a wealth of knowledge 😁👌 Appreciate the effort that goes into making these videos to share what you've leaned. Guess we'll be getting some of these mats!
Thanks Josh! :-)
Thanks Mark, its this kind of video that helps us all out, we can make an informed choice to make our lives better out on the road when camping. Very impressive.
Its not easy to find that perfect sleeping camping mattress, thanks for sharing.
If you use your breath to inflate the sack when it's below freezing, the condensation from your breath will freeze inside your mat and prevent it from insulating you from the cold. Otherwise no worries. Very helpful video Mark!
I got the women's version and it is the the most comfortable mat. Being 25 inches wide makes all the difference. I have slept on mine over 40 nights. Love it!
I just bought it after watching your video and it’s working great on my trip so far.
These are not cheap at all but if you have back issues it sure beats the hard ground underneath you. Love these reviews Mark thanks
That's my primary reason for the pad and pillow; comfort for my back and neck. I've got degenerative disc.
Have the Klymit Luxe Insulated SL , big comfy enough but cold 🥶. Currently looking for a replacement, great review. The noise in the Thermarest is making me think of Sea to Summit of Nemo ! Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Sea to Summit. Great Aussie brand made by guys who talk the talk and walk the walk, hike, adventure lifestyle.
If you blow 30cm away from the pump bag Bernoulli effect takes place. Allows space of lower pressure for higher pressure, air, to come in. Basically less breathes required.
Good mood, good advices, Great video, Thanks man !
Greetings from France
Bloody ripper mate, just got this one for my bikepacking adventures... Super comfy! Great video!!
Hi mate. Long time lurker, seldom commenter. Just want to say thanks for all the videos, the common sense approach and the silly times. Even the wife looks forward to MCT!! (She’s a fan of Nay and her craftwork) whenever the Black Dog comes sniffing round your channel is often the first one I open up. Anyway, thanks and as you say, Keep on keeping on!
perfect timing .. thanks for finding - sharing - reviewing this
I just got this the one last month Mark and I agree it is bloody awesome, a trick I found is not to put to much air in it.
Thanks Mark, I’ve been using a self inflatable mattress for my bike trips, but this looks so much better. The overall rolled up size is really small and the low weight is a bonus. I’ve already looked it up on Snowys. Will be perfect for a big bike trip planned in a couple of months. Just need the state border restrictions to lift and we are good to go.
Good Onya mate! :-)
Mark, I’ve been subbed for some time. Watched Max the DR650 vids which helped me with mine. You are a hoot to watch... your new shop is the bees knees too. Sea to Summit is pricey but good stuff. A good nights sleep is necessary. I have a BIG AGNES, LG. pad. it’s great. Also StoS pillow and dry bags. Good review.
I have the red StS mat that you’ve just graduated from. I don’t mind the sound too much, it’s the pillow I haven’t sorted properly yet. I also have an StS bag - the Lattitude Lt III. Absolutely love it.
Hey Mark. I use an emergency blanket (silver foil) under my mat to insulate from the cold..packs to nothing and no weight....
To each his/her own. I’m about 5’11” and 200 lbs and I’ve using a Klymit Static V2 for about 2 years now, backpacking about 5 nights out of every month throughout the year. It’s a well made pad, it’s light, comfortable, quiet, easy to inflate and deflate, I don’t roll off it and at $63 USD from Amazon it’s a whole lot cheaper than the alternatives. As I said, to each his/her own.
That's it mate we are all different and if works for ya... That's the one for you! 👍
Great review Mark- saves us going through what you have- our benefit!!
Thanks a lot for that. You clearly think about stuff.
I was wondering about the camp cot - so it's great to see that you've tried that and went with this new sleeping mat. That's great info. I've got one extra need - to have a cooler mat in the summer and a warmer mat in the cold. I'll have to phone those folk at Snowy's and have a chat I reckon. (I'd have to agree with your view that a bike packable self inflating mat isn't comfortable enough for a side sleeper)
🤣😂🤣 Mark.....how the hell do you know what it’s like to sleep on cabbage 🥬 leaves 🤷🏻♂️🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
It's charming how excited you are about a sleeping pad! Do you still like it this much almost two years on?
Yep still love it! 😀👍
Like you I've been all over the place memory foam, cots, inflatables definitely will research this more as it is pretty pricey by my standards. Thanks for the review 👍🏻🏕️🏍️
Wild Earth still have some sizes in stock got the last large rectangle size 👍, Currently been using a Nemo Nomad mattress with no insulation it’s like sleeping on fridge in winter it’s comfy and light weigh just isn’t made for the cold, Great Vid 👍
Thanks Mark for this informative video just bought the large rectangle of ebay - cheers buddy from Europe
Thanks Mark for the heads up. I have a self inflation mat and this looks like gold to me.
Blow into the bag 1 foot away it works better, also get less moisture in the pad for mold to drink or to turn to ice if it’s really cold
I love the kero heater fantastic
Seems the Sea to Summit option is very popular, out of stock in most outlets. I'm currently using Klymit Interia XL Recon inside sleeping bag, and some sort of 3/4 Wolfman mat outside the bag. Not too much bulk & at least I can wear them both out (in comfort) until I'm ready to score the Sea to Summit
Great video champ. I'm in the market for a sleeping mat and you've helped out heaps. 👍
Awsome review thanks mate. You have helped make up my mind now, loving this brand right
cheers.
Thank you for making this video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Cooking chicken wings on the barbie right now in freezing brisbane 🥶 I bought the Klymit Static V as it was on sale for $80. I thought it was pretty comfy and not too squeaky but you’re right the air inlet is a pain in arse and deflating the thing is annoying as hell. This new Sea To Summit looks the ducks nuts but a tad expensive for me. Thanks for the review matey 👍
I have 2 of these ... purchased in Q4 2019 ... very happy EXCEPT they are a bit noisy when you move around while sleep - I wish they were not. Got to do with the internal insulation foil ... maybe it changes with pressure level.
Hope there's a video from your 'backgarden' testing... with some 'stock footage from earlier trips' for the external shots 😉 coming soon.
*edit: on second thoughts, best keep yourself safe from the hysteria mob.
Sucram Sucram haha
I see I’m not the only one who bought the Helinix cot, liked it ... but went back to an exped inflatable mat....
(The Helinox is sat, used just once, in my camping cupboard )
Your mate with the XR 650 (Alistair?) had one of these on the Wyperfeld NP trip, 3 years ago! Did you not think to have a look at this "game-changer" then?
No he had the sea to summit comfort plus one which is what I bought and showed in the video but this new Sea to summit Ether Light XT one is way better! :-)
Top show, thanks for posting.
Mark, been on exactly the same journey. I went a way with my mate for a few nights on the bikes, on the last night I offered him up my Helinox cot and I used my StS instead. Result; I had my best night's sleep for the trip actually, better that my last few trips. Seriously considering offloading the Helinox and putting the money into something else.
Which way are you thinking of travelling?
With the new one of course! :-)
@@BikerBits Yep, agree.
Cheers Mark and thanks for the review.
I'm kinda bummed out you don't ship internationally/America. I know it gets expensive so I understand. I think your hoodie is awesome! Oh well, I guess I'm going to have to take a trip to Bendigo, Australia someday. "keep on ridin' & keep on keepin' on"
Hi Mark, would you say the etherlight XT is warm enought for a cold winter night in Victoria? Cheers!
Good one Mark, thanks for the detail, a good nights sleep is priceless?
Hi Mark you should try the" Exped downmat 9 lw with the Thermarest Synergy sheet and the Corus -20 quilt" probably the best sleep system available and very quiet also have a look at the "Yeti brick 600" sleeping bag keep up the with the great vids👍
Hi Mark, I've just watched your review of the Sea to Summit XT sleeping mat and by pure coincidence, also received a posting tonight from a Scottish outdoor channel , (R S Outdoors), which is also reviewing the same mat. How weird is that.
RS OUTDOORS also gives the mat a good initial review.
Regards from S Africa

Nice new boots
Bloody good one mate
I've seen those pants you were wearing on bushcraft channels. The green pants with black knees, who makes those?
I just purchased a kly-mit air pillow. Its comfy. That sleeping mat is saweet! 👍👀
FXD Work pants
Sea To Summit Camp Plus Self Inflating Mattress is pretty good 4.3 R-value 7.5cm thick . 129 at tent world
I’m just gonna buy a couple of cheap arse cabbages, sleep on them and then knock up a bit of soup. Winner🤣.
Great review, mate! Have you measured the loft to see if it is a true 4" height? I wish these pads were also available in a 30" width. I'm a small guy but I move in my sleep like I'm in a wrestling match! Even the 25" width makes me paranoid I'm going to roll off it.
Actually no I haven't!
I have the sea to summit comfort plus like your old one and it was basically the same price around the $250, so if this is more comfy and less noisy for the same price
sounds like a bargin to me, Cheers sir.
Yep! :-)
Great video and perfect timing, thank you. With all the experience you have and the investments you have made a BIG thank you as we saved a ton from your experiences. Now, can you help with a large size sleeping bag, not a mummy thing but a proper 3 or 4 season sleeping bag - :)
Thanks for the review, very helpful. One thing I missed though: what's in your experience the coldest temperature that you can comfortably sleep in with this mat?
I ask because I'm trying to decide between purchasing the Light XT Extreme with an R-value over 6 or this one.
Not sure but if money not a problem go with the Extreme! Better safe than sorry! :-)
@@BikerBits I'd love for you to check the pack size (google) of the extreme and see if you think the extra size is work almost double rating?
Love the size, weight and simplicity, but I always have this fear of the air beds going flat during the night. Once they make them puncture proof and I'd get one for sure.
Isn't the Therm-a-rest NeoAir XTherm MAX sleeping pad still lighter for the same size AND even with more than double the R-value AND sturdier with 30/70D nylon instead of 30/40D? (Plus being fully rectangular instead of tapering down)
Don't know! :-)
@@BikerBits It is ;-) But it costs an arm and a leg
Yes Thermarest and Exped are the leaders in insulation and weight
On the back of this Mark, I sold my Helinox cot.
Awesome work..!!
Sleeping on cabbage leaves! 🤣 Mark, would you use the Sea to Summit with the Helinox cot? Acknowledging your heat loss and extra weight comments, I would have thought this would give an added layer of comfort? Plus if not doing hardcore off road, that cot is not much more to take on Max??
Having the Helinox under the new Ether XT wouldn't do anything I think but under my older sea to summit it would be very comfy! :-)
Abit too steep for a S.Bag.!
However, I think if you camp out alot or at least 3 times a year & you are backpacking/on foot.., then i, agree.., it is an asume design & very light & smart..
👍👍👍👍👍
The Helinox shouldn’t be in there. It’s a cot it isn’t there to provide insulation but by getting you off the ground it does prevent the heat sink effect of the ground.
Is this the large mummy or rectangle one mate?
Mummy
1 year later , how does it hold up Mark ?
Still going great! 👍
So over priced, i ve always used a foam roll mat for 30 odd years no problems , cost a couple of pounds back in the day, Lasted 20 years easy !
Mind you a couple of spiffs and beers at that time helped with Comfort 🤔
Good one
How does the Sea To Summit compare with the Exped Synmats? Are they a lot better?
Sorry don't know!
very cool
So if you don't pack it in the bag it came in, How do you blow it up without it?
The stuff sack is double ended - one end for the mat and other end for the inflator
Is that the ‘mummy’ shape? Or rectangle?
Mummy!
@@BikerBits 👍🏻
Punture resistence ?
I will have to wait and see, but from independent reviews it holds up even on the bare ground! :-)
Snowys outa stock till august
WOW... Must have got the last one! :-)
Now September for the large.
Think I will stick with my Exped UL 7, about 1/2 the price of the sea to summit and lighter.
260 bucks for a sleeping mat, my god man do you ride a KTM 1290 ?
Oh sorry they stay in hotels with there mates on GS 1200s.
😂😂😂😂😂
Agreed, love my Exped with down insulation. Best one for the $ and kept me warm on my trip up to Alaska.
If you want to sell your Helinox, I'll take it.
HELINOX is huge there is smaller better COT
Time for upgrade
