I have both the Martin DJr and the GS Mini Rosewood. But the Martin sound is so superior, to my ears at least, I almost never play the GS Mini anymore. Still, it's a great little guitar. For those of you small hands, or weaker hands (I'm 70) you'll love these guitars.
lovely review .. insights .. i played one yesterday and it was a decent guitar .. i love the inscription in the inner sides of the waist..,the size i love it
That ebony over richlite fingerboard is an awesome upgrade. I love the simpler Martin appointments but you have to get up there in price to get a wooden fingerboard. It also bothers me when they don’t specify what wood is going to be used
@@guitarstreetThe case looks much nicer than the one that comes with the 000CJr-10e. I was hoping that Martin would offer a hardshell case or a better softshell case for the 000 juniors.
Update on the Martin 000CJr-10e ! Recently, I mentioned that I purchased a Martin 000CJr-10e, and it is an amazing guitar at an affordable price. Every Sunday evening is band practice for me, and two Sundays ago, the weather was beautiful. We practiced electric inside, and I used my Les Paul. We have practice at a lake house, and the other guitar player decided to take his pontoon boat out. The drummer had a small kit, a friend brought his keyboards, and we brought our acoustic guitars. The humidity was very high and about a half hour later, in the middle of the lake, my Martin started to buzz. The buzz became so bad that I had to stop playing. The high humidity caused the 000CJr-10e neck to bow back. I thought that I was going to have to adjust the truss rod, but after a few days, the neck went back to normal. Something to keep in mind when playing in high humidity locations. My other Martin has a laminated Stratobond neck and is less likely to bow in humidity conditions. The 000CJr-10e is still a great choice for guitar players that play out. The gig bag still sucks. I will eventually get a real case.
I'm rather new in learning guitar and I was sceptic on buying a more expensive model. But after trying a few cheaper guitars I got online, I bought very recently the Martin DJR-10 and love it! How it plays, feels, looks and how it sounds! I compared to OOO-JR as well as the Taylor GS mini and although I find the latter also great sounding, I came to really appreciate the complete rich tone of an all solid Martin guitar! The best way to describe it is the ones that have laminated back & sides sound more "flat" or more dry. Like it's less "breathing". I even compared to the Taylor Academy models. Yes they sound great too and being a bit larger they have even more volume. But again lack that tone richness. I guess it's also a matter of taste at the end. I also love the balance those Martin retro strings give to the Junior models. I'm happy to know that such instruments only get better with time. 😊
Ordered one from my local dealer. Should be here on two weeks! I always wanted a small body Martin, and I like the look of this one over the regular ooojr
Both guitars sound very nice. However, for some reason, I haven't found a Taylor I can "connect with". IMO.....Martin's are one of the best sounding guitars.
Try the 614ce, that's a pretty sweet guitar. Or the 714ce with Sinker Redwood. Or the GS mini Koa. The GS mini's take time to open up, but they are really a great guitar.
The GS Mini def sounds BIGGER and like it throws more sound. Im torn between these two guitars at the moment and leaning towards the Martin because of the wider nut.
I recently purchased the 000CJr-10e and it has become my main acoustic. About 10 years ago I bought a DRS1 and played it to death. It's in dire need of a fret job. I bought a used 000 X Series and really liked the 000 size. The X Series is laminated and was dropped once. The top separated from the sides. I decided to go with the 000CJr-10e because of the solid wood construction. I like the ebony fret board and bridge on the guitar your reviewed. I'm not sure who Sean Mendes is, I'll have to look him up.
Hey Gabriel! Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it. Haha it's a Chinese New Year song, followed by a Cantonese song. Here they are! open.spotify.com/track/2Cf2X7XDK3yeDpLioM6vWk?si=511e512ea9c84e52 open.spotify.com/track/5M8FXrTngqo69sLY55pffy?si=fb58fb1482ab4f5d
I’d love to learn to play the guitar. You make both the Martin and Taylor sound fantastic. Would this be a good option for a beginner? Hope at 62 I’m not to late to the game of learning to play one of those beautiful guitars.
Thank you Russell! You are so kind. I think this is a wonderful option for a beginner. It’s slightly smaller than a full sized guitar so it handles great, yet it still sounds good. You are definitely not late - I’m so excited for your journey!
@@guitarstreet your GS Mini sounded to fabulous. Also loved the big smile while you were playing the finger picking tune. The sound of a fabulous acoustic guitar is my Zen. It is so comforting and soothing. I could listen to you play for hours. Thank you for the response. Greatly appreciate it.
Appreciate the review done. I’m considering the gs mini/koa/plus and the 000cjr-10e. But since swee lee doesn’t have any new stock for the taylor. quite a bummer. But I thought the street master edition seems good as well.
I want to try the Martin as well but the cutaway version 000CJR-10E. I have the Taylor GS mini e koa and the mini mahogany...the mini mahogany sounds much better than the koa to my ear.
Is the different nut width makes it feel different from GS mini? I have a GS mini and I find the scale length perfect (I have short fingers), but I feel the strings are bit cramped together. Compared to a normal scaled (Taylor 314) guitar. (I could not find a Martin Junior in store where I live...)
Just bought this guitar second hand at SGD 950. I shaved the saddle and changed bridge pins. Its exceptionally good after this. Any suggestions on strings? I have a gsmini hog and im inclined to put elixirs medium lights on this for its longevity 😊. I also removes the pickguard as the cJr000 doesnt come with it, so im guessing the small body doesnt require a pickguard How does it sound after it opens up?
Glad to hear you found a good piece and managed to tweak it to sound great! For us in Singapore, I suggest using light strings .012. I use Phosphor bronze strings, either the Elixir PB Nanoweb or the D'addario XS. The HD lights is also a good choice. I don't have much long-term experience with this guitar as I've returned it after the review, but I'm guessing it will open up nicely too, just like the GS mini :)
😂I ordered one and picked it up yesterday, but what I can’t believe is that mine has no lyrics in the guitar body, I am disappointed now~ so jealous of your lyric as it is my favourite one!
@@guitarstreet yes~ A random lyric should be in it. I tried playing today, it has quite different sounds! And it sounds great! I owned 2 Taylor guitar, and this brings me something new 😆
Great info. Wanted to know if it was neck heavy and you answered my question! I am an older beginner and my Little Martin’s neck is so heavy I find it uncomfortable compared to a bigger guitar I have 😢. Might have to trade up for the ooo-jr
@@ashac7183 Yes exactly! Neck being heavy is an issue for smaller guitars. But for this guitar, you can see that the balance is quite good. I recommend getting it!
@@guitarstreet I’ve watched 6 or 7 videos before watching yours and I don’t think that’s the case. In every comparison, the GS mini sounds more open and bright. How does the neck compare? Would you say the GS mini neck feels like an electric guitar?
@@zobotrombie neck is quite similar, seeing as both are short scale. the GS mini neck feels like an acoustic guitar still. just that with the shorter scale, string tension is a little lower and easier to play.
I have a very soft spot for my GS mini. So I'd have to say, my GS mini. But I know this guitar will be just as great, especially when you give it time to grow with you.
10 to 15 years from now that guitar will sound open and incredible.

Yes indeed the Martin sound is indeed (dreadnought) is soo good 😊😊😊

Brilliant review, excellent guitar. Blows the GS Mini away IMO

Taylor GS mini-e Koa. It’s an older edition which came with the ES pickup. I switched out my pickup for a LR Baggs Anthem. Hope that helps!
