    I never comment in youtube videos or any other social media for that matter, I'm more of a silent watcher. I just spent like 50 minutes tracking down this vid since I used to watch it around 40 times a day in 2009... didn't know if I was ever gonna find it. Still is awesome.

    Then the world melted, and the universe imploded. All that was left at the centre was Andy James, and he created new matter and made new worlds........and it was good.

    this song's incorporation of melodic sweep picking and alternate picking with the off beat tempo and the constantly changing chord progressions reminds me of good ol' tony macalpine shredding. love it.

  • @ATLMember
    @ATLMember 11 лет назад

    That's what soloing is, hitting notes in the correct key in your choice of scale. And he mixed it up, using diminished, harmonic minor, and some pentatonic shred.

    I actually laughed at 1:44 those sweeps are so smooth it's ridiculous. It reminded me of the boss in the shadow temple of zelda: ocarina of time?
    Amazing playing! I wish I could sweep that smoothly..

  • @WilsonAlmighty

    @Chargeglass
    Nope, just a regular hairband. There are various other things people have used, selotape at the 1st fret, a mates hand or there are even mechanical things with soft material attached. It's not advisable to use in almost any situation except recording though as people hate on everyone that uses them (unless they are famous because that somehow makes it ok).
    If you search "mystical potato head thing" you will see another example of this technique

  • @Arycke
    @Arycke 15 лет назад

    I said that in my comment sir, and you are correct I am not dogging on his tone, and I don't have a better rig. I know he's a great guy and excellent player (I said it quite a bit in my comment), I was just pointing out that he is using a hairtie which gives nearly any player the ability to play clean, even though I know for a fact Andy James can shred like crazy without it and still do just as well or better. Thank you :)

  • @Calibur43
    @Calibur43 14 лет назад

    @guitarfan246 Nope it was a double bend then he let one string go as a substitute for that "missed note". Gave it a nice sound too.

  • @DustinAndNatasha

    Never realized Andy James is like my favorite guitar players. He has the power of Dimebag, Syn, Mark Morton, Kirk, Adam D, and Zakk Wylde in his hands. If I were 1/3 as bad as this dude..Well I would be pretty badass.

    @Artybruh hahaha thanks for the encouragement man, honestly tho i could never quit guitar, its like sex without the risk of aids haha. and as far as songs off that album i recommend: "Spokes for the Wheel of Torment"(has a very disturbing music video tho), "woods of suicide", "the treeman" and one of my favorite Bhead songs ever "fountains of the forgotten". You keep on shredding too man, dont let guitar bullies like andy james, yngwie malmsteen, and buckethead discourage you haha

    1.)This is not the lesson part thought, it says performance during the video.
    2.)MAB has his own signature dampeners for live use.
    3.)It is because he is a professional that he uses the string dampeners. He is hired by licklibrary. Getting the perfect take for the performance in as few a takes as possible saves his bosses money. Also he's doing these DVD's to teach you not impress you

    he does use his pinky. on this solo. its on the chorus starting at 1:40. his pinky hits the 7th string... a-ton.

  • @WilsonAlmighty
    @WilsonAlmighty 14 лет назад

    @DragonForce191
    Actually it is only because this guy had a 5 minute solo to record in one take, The slightest mistake would have been stuck there had he not used the dampener. All the best musicians use them for recording, Marty Friedman, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai. It's merely because you might get 2 takes, 1 sounds amazing but has 1 mistake, the other has zero mistakes but sounds less good. The string dampener preserves the good take, the mistake is still there but unnoticeable

  • @Arycke
    @Arycke 15 лет назад

    excellent solos, but I think (now this is just a personal preference here) that I would be more impressed with the string skipping with tapping if there was no headband/hairtie on the neck, and his sweeps are clean, but in this particular video (I've seen other videos of him without it and he's still an excellent player), it's somewhat due to the hairtie. I know Romeo does not use one and does more extreme tapping and string skipping and it's cleaner than this, but again, excellent solos :)

    @yamahaing7737 man, never really listened to that album, can you reccomend me some of the best delicious shredtastic tracks from that album??
    also don't give up lol, pretty sure Andy James is like the leading metal guitarist of our generation lol, he can do anything
    What I'm trying to say is, if "not being able to play a Andy James song" was a reason to give up on guitar, then the majority of guitarists would be in BIIIIIIIG trouble ;) especially me :'( I struggle with 4-5 finger tapping :'(

    Yes i like all of Andy James solos because they are not noisy but fantastic beautiful sounding solos while incorporating various melodic techniques and fluid style. And no offence to Rusty Cooley who has good speed on him, but in my opinion Rusty Cooleys solos sound rather noisy and a waste of speed. But Andy James is fast enough with great tasteful licks and chops all nicely put together, Andy James really hits the spot on his solos. He gives meaning to shred with a divine purpose and reason

  • @118042
    @118042 14 лет назад

    @Conasnipes Yeah, yeah, I know. I play a bit of guitar, and it's hard enough to tap with your pinky. His is even harder to use as it's double jointed. I got it. I was joking. No need to get serious =P
