- In the small Northern Idaho town of Bonners Ferry, students and teachers face potential catastrophe every day. Their school, Valley View Elementary, was built in 1949 with recycled materials from a decommissioned World War II base. It has cracks in the walls, a leaky ceiling, and rusted plumbing - a hazardous combination that has faculty and school district leaders worried something disastrous could happen at any moment. In addition to the school, the Valley View community faces a larger problem - funding. Idaho is one of only two states in the country that requires a 66% majority to pass a bond for school facilities, making it nearly impossible for them to raise money and build a new school. Despite this continuous uphill battle, the staff at Valley View show up every day to create an engaging and welcoming learning environment for kids.

All 4 of my kids went there - loved the scholl - not the building. We were there when the gym collapsed in 96 and here we are 28 years later still debating the safty of the school building. I am not surprised - took too many years to get an updated high school so we could move the Jr hi students out of what was nicknamed the trailer park - re - "Old High School. Best of luck for the staff and students for a safe building.
