Covid19 had played a big role in allowing Redcliffe to be the main candidate in getting the 17 licence and the 18th is likely to be the TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS utilising the old 1300 smiles stadium in KIRWAN.

Congrats to the *Redcliffe* Dolphins. What an absolute disgrace though that the NRL have been so small-minded as to deny the Dolphins a geographic identifier. Redcliffe, Moreton Bay, North Brisbane all would have been preferable to "The Dolphins". All NRL fans are aghast at the decision to create a precedent, making the Dolphins the *only* team in the NRL without a geographic identifier. The *only* team in Australian Rugby League history not to be allowed a geographic identifier to associate them with a specific region. Ridiculous decision!

@@kennethbarrington5773 Not NRL CEO Andrew Abdo, Kenneth. He was crystal clear and unequivocal. There will be no name change. It will remain just "The Dolphins". It is not a subject up for debate or discussion. It is not up to the new franchise but rather the NRL and the NRL commission, to make that determination. The decision has already been made and will not change. Watch the Andrew Abdo press conference in full, and then let's talk.

I'm glad they gave the licence to the REDCLIFFE RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB...
But they shouldn't be called just 'the Dolphins'. It doesn't sound prestigious, or timeless enough.. It won't age well... Too gimmicky...

See my comment above... according to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo they will be referred to *only* has _"The Dolphins"._ They will not be allowed to have a geographic identifier like ALL the other 16 NRL clubs or like ALL the other NSWRL, ARL, QRL, BRL and NRL teams in the history of the game. The NRL has turned what should be a celebration into a farce. As a Moreton Bay resident, former Redcliffe resident and supporter of the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Intrust Super Cup, I am disgusted with the NRL's Draconian decision.

@ Green Horn Fishing This is not a brand-new club. The Redcliffe Dolphins have existed since 1950. Why would they stop calling themselves The Dolphins after 71 years?
They didnt choose the dolphins just now.. It's and old club.. I'm glad they kept that.. But they shouldn't be called just 'the dolphins'

@@dragonoftheeast7572 You might find that Burleigh Bears is a feeder club for the GC Titans. Seems you got NZ Warriors in the NRL, why not throw the PNG Hunters there in the mix.

They were originally from Redcliffe but they will be changing their location name I’m pretty sure right now they are just called The Dolphins
@@jaspacito1236 Before 2008 Redcliffe used to be it own city even had city council status until the councils of Pine Rivers and Caboolture got mixed with them to be called Moreton Bay Regional Council.
