as @CodingInClassicWay said, you cannot use lava instead of blaze burner, however, you can use lava on the blaze burner to last longer and better

Well, you have to accually throw them into the basin by holding them and pressing Q, if they still doesn't get inside the basin, then maybe they aren't supposed to go there i guess

i know that there is a method to make water wheels that spin super fast (in wich i do not know how to make), but you could also use a steam generator

make sure it has at least 30 RPM and also make sure you are using the right igredients along with something bellow the Basin to heat it, wich will be a blaze in a cage

maybe you dont have enough RPM on it, or its the igredients, or you dont have anything bellow the basin to heat it

You have to put coal on blaze burner, put water inside basin and what you want to mix.

You need to capture a blaze. if you have the empty burner, just right_click on the mob w/ the burner to capture it
