Absolutely delightful Timea, I grew up in post war England and my grandfather grew enough vegetables to keep us going all winter stored in our keeping cellar, wonderful memories. There's nothing tastes as good as "Home Grown" sadly now life's run at such a pace all these skills are dying.

Really interesting to see village life in Romania, thanks Timea In the UK, land costs £12,000-15,000 per acre, so only people who inherit land could grow their own food like this. Some people do grow small quantities in their gardens (average size 12x21m 255m²) and some people rent allotments from the council 25/62½/125/250m² but only a few are available. It's interesting how many generations ago people stopped growing their own food whilst living in rural areas.

Happy Sunday Timea! First I have to say - WOW your Grandmother is quite a gardener isn't she! That is what we would call a "bumper crop" of vegetables! Bravo! Second I have to say that Grandmother must have taught your mother to also be a great gardener! Such a good stock of "winter happiness" in the root cellar! This tradition is no longer followed by most people because food was always plentiful and cheap, but I suspect that we will soon need to dust off the old books which tell us how to do this. Times are rapidly changing here! My parents lived like that and I remember all the different things they made from wild fruit, and all sorts of plants and herbs. My favourite was a delicious drink made from nettles! We called it "Nettle Pop!" If I close my eyes I can remember the taste - Mmmmmmmm! We were very poor then but I never remember being unhappy or hungry! I also remember potato harvest time when we all went to the field to lift them - sore backs were usually the result, but lots of fun too! Most of the fun came because in the break, we had Cider for everyone - the day went faster after Cider. 😊😊🍾🍾 You and your family have a beautiful life Timea, it makes me smile to remember what my childhood was like on the farm in South Wales. My grandpa loved to say:" as more hands, as faster the end! Potato harvesting took several weeks at my oncles farm, because he had so many fields with potatoes. As child my job was to go along after the potato harvester and collect all the potatos they fell out of the machine. After many years doing this job like a slave, I was grown up to a Teen and was allowed to drive the tractor, pulling the machine. That was a big upgrade!😂 With good weather conditions we harvested 2 truck trailers full of potatoes in one day. Each weighted 10-12t! I'm always impressed, how clean and well organised everything is at your and your families home!! I have to correct my opinion about lifestyle in Romania from time to time! I'm ashamed to think so in the past! God bless you and your family!!
@@epku7578 10 TO 12t is a bountiful harvest. at a young age working in a farm seemed like a purnishment ...i remember when i was 5🤣🤣🤣🤣 we had to hide from my fellow village mates who we schooled with ,whenever we worked in the farm .so naive right🤣🤣🤣 the perception was wrong ..ours was only to get a bowl of food on the table ..i wish this were the times we received suplus ... i would do it with no complain😏

Winter is from October to February/March and summer is like from May to September. The summer is moderate here, like from 25°C to 40°C ( maximum) and the winters we had -32°C 3 winters ago, this winter we had like from -20°C above. Take care!
