- Adding Biological Filtration | Marine Pure vs Amazon Ceramic Bio Media
Adding biological filtration to your tank and aquarium is the best way to keep your nutrients in check! It's the most sustainable way to reduce ammonia, nitrite and most of all nitrate in your aquarium. In this episode I up my biological filtration game by adding some ceramic bio media. Ceramic bio media is a fish safe ceramic media that has an extensive pore structure such that the surface area is maximized and the aerobic bacteria and anaerobic bacteria can grow and feed on the nutrients in your aquarium. I bought a big bag of ceramic bio media because I wanted to compare it to the Marine Pure Ceramic bio media I bought years ago. This video shows you the difference between the two.

Marinepure media is the BOMB! i use it in all my tanks, fresh included. cant beat that surface area. there may be some cheaper alternatives like lava rock etc., but the peace of mind given when buying fish specific media is priceless!
Just bought some of the cheap bio spheres on ebay, haven't tried them yet but look forward to see how you get on. Like you say, it's hard to measure the performance, but will still be interesting to see how they work out.
LMAO, I love how he huffed when he picked up a bag that weighs 2000 grams
I even use live rock in freshwater tanks, after 6 months the anaerobic bacteria works very effectively.
" I am not a drug dealer so I don't a have a random little scale laying around where I can measure grams." LMAO
I still think that the Marine Pure is much better even to those new ceramics and even the koi ceramics that have been released on market and I've used MP for Marine lps fish tank and in Discus tank and know using in my koi pond in bakki shower with Kintama Spheres and Alfragrog and only used alfragrog also, as had 3 10kg bags
Hi there was wondering how was the test with these cheap bio balls? Any difference or worst then the marine pure?
Does it breaks down over time?
Does it change pH??
Marinepure has more surface area and will support aerobic and anaerobic bacteria which is ammonia-nitrite-nitrate-soluble nitrogen which creates a full cycle. The cheap one only supports aerobic which is ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate, it really doesn’t matter which one you get
Another great video :) have you done a review of RO/DI filters and the best ones, just starting out and it's all a bit confusing, stage 4 stage even 5 stage :(
I could do a video about my RO unit and the filters I trust. 👍 Might be a few weeks though, I've already a couple videos scheduled and committed. Some good stuff on the way!
You are more than welcome to hit me up on my Facebook or Instagram page @realreefingtv and I'll talk you through it 😊
Marine pure is the best, its the only thing which keeps ammonia at 0ppm... I have tried other filter media the ammonia always stays at 0.25 ppm...
Marine Pure is the only one that has done the research to work out the perfect surface area to volume ratio to allow parallel denitrification without anoxic. Live rock is random.
Live rock is what the coral reef is made out of, that is the test of millions of years and research done by mother nature. It is proven, can't be understood or fully explain, not because of some fault of nature, but human stupidity.
@@garrycole9187 I am huge fan of live rock but live rock has an inconsistent surface area to volume ratio, meaning some bits are better for parralelle denificicatiuon than other bits where as Marine Pure is consistent.
Really Good Content...I have a query, In order to grow beneficial bacterial, do we need to add liquid bacteria to it or the bacteria's itself form naturally? I would appreciate if you could help me..
It happens naturally with the addition of a fish. Good question
ayee i have the same shirt...swag!! great video
Nice!😎🙌
Love the video!
Thanks Noah! Im interested to see how they do in the 300! not really sure how to measure it though...
RealReefingTV Wow! Yeah that’s not gonna be easy. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
สวัสดีจร้ามาดูนำจร้า👌👍😘🌹
Can I break ceramic rings in pieces and use in small filters?
no its illegal with jail time.
Doesn't ceramics contain silicate and feed diatoms
Does the Amazon version test positive for Aluminium? I know Marine Pure does.
I'm not sure.. thats a good question, I've been using the marine pure for years with no ill effects..
@@RealReefingTV I just know when I do ICP water test the marine pure has high levels of Aluminium. I was hoping this one didn't. I pulled pure out and test back to normal. Many had same issue.
@@EliCarter Could you give a short explanation as to what exactly makes aluminium bad? How does it integrate into the reef's chemisty? I've never heard of anyone mentioning aluminium, beit good or bad.
@@xXxXemohaiRXxXx I hope that helps
I'll see if I can find an old Triton test and see if it shows aluminum.
im sure the marine pure is more than 3x surface area. its better even in price. imo. more surface area in less space.
So, if I have 40lbs of live rock in my aquarium why do I need another little aquarium to the side with 1lb of live rock???
I see the use for chaeto and skimmer though:-)
It may only be one pound but has the surface area of 20 may be more.. there’s more than one way to run it. Who am I to say you’re wrong or right. 🤷♂️
@@RealReefingTV Hi, thanks for the reply... was that too many ???marks :)
How can a question be right or wrong... lol thanks for ur answer though
@@min2oly haha yeah felt rhetorical lol all good, anytime!
I dont get it, have the price but half the surface area... so whats the point
Not really, you have greater surface area with marine pure but less, so if marine pure has say twice the surface area as product A, but you get product A for 1/2 the cost but 4 times more of product A. You will get more surface area with product A. The limiting factor is size of your filter/sump. If you have a large enough filter area, you are better off with product A money wise to get the same surface area or more.
Maybe take it out the bag! At a guess the zip will rust.!!
Cody, is that a metal zipper on that bag? 😳 metal zipper + salt = issues
Yo. I didn't even think of that 😂 I'll check to see if it's a plastic zipper when I get home tonight and I'll report back. If it is I won't be using it. Good eye🕵️♂️
RealReefingTV I got your back man
@@sethfrancis1472 💪
@@sethfrancis1472 yep metal... Too bad.. I was pretty pumped about that feature.
RealReefingTV haha yeah, you might want to think about cure those outside of the tank and testing water for any leaching. With things that are well documented and used like Marine Pure, I don’t worry. But a cheap knockoff has me skeptical. I’d be curious what they look like on the inside too. Any chance you’d crack one in half just for curiosity’s sake?
Maxspect is the way
I use black bio balls
i'm sorry... lol
Old School! Lol 🤣🤣🤣
Could you not find a bigger knife😭😭
love your haircut bro, you're handsome as fuck
The Fluval Fx bio media is what I use in all my aquarium. They are amazing media and great price.
Do i have to put the bio spheres in with the ziplock bag or can i jyst throw them without the bag in the fish tank?
