As soon as you said someone needs to buy the LeBaron my wife looked over at me and said, “no, don’t even think about it!” Sigh… In other news, glad the issue with the Hemi wasn’t super serious. Looking forward to seeing it go back together!
Surely a rare and special car like that, worthy of NOS hoses without a hose clamp crimp, date coded wheels, and specific brake parts with just the right bolts... deserves its documented body side moldings!
Back in the early ‘70’s a friend bought a ‘70 ‘cuda 340 four speed that was Sandpebble beige. It had California exhaust tips (before we knew there was such a thing) and no vinyl roof. A guy traded him a Shaker hood for his twin scoop hood (even up!), and my friend paid $50 to somebody to shoot it beige. Short story long, I think ‘cudas looked good in beige, and that one was the only one I ever saw.
Rare, so rare! Would like to see it restored to Sandpebble beige and the vinyl molding. I looked for photos and I've found one 1970 'Cuda in Sandpebble beige, black top, and shaker. It has the hockey stripe and it's a 440 six pack, 4 speed, with white interior. There's also a plebeian Sandpebble beige Barracuda with a black top and it appears to be with it's original owner at the time of the article. That valve was too long or was the valve seat damaged? I'm guessing Jamie will cover it in a video.
Being an October build car I expect it will have the fenders that were modified after the car was built, I believe only on the very early cars did they attempt to trim the wheel well moldings. They had to cut away so much of the inner lip that there was no structural integrity in what remained, they would easily be bent if they were off the fender. So, they just completely deleted the moldings on the slightly later cars, but there would be screw holes indicating that they were once there. There is a local car that does have them, the Mr. Kite SS/DA Cuda from Vancouver. I know it’s a very early car, but off the top of my head I can’t say when exactly.
I have always had a soft spot for the E body Cuda. There is a 71 curious yellow, 340 4spd Cuda that’s been sitting in an old hog barn down the road from where I grew up since the early 90’s. The guy never would sell it, the barn came down on it about 5 years ago. I saw the outline of the roof yesterday. I think he’s finally picking away at the collapsed barn.
The budget calculus performed on a real hemi car is a 'startling' contrast to us plebeians: Dont crimp the 40yr old NOS rubber hose! new looking exhaust? NOT perfect enough cut it out! Wow thats a cool car. I enjoy the videos.
Very Cool ‘Cuda! Kinda everybody’s dream car , Triple Black Hemi Cuda✨ Whenever I see a Hemi , all I can think is how heavy and big it is. I get the whole Hemi thing, and when in all-out race engine configurationy they are king. But I’ve never wanted one. I’m a Wedge guy.
I'm not seeing the Hemi skid plate on the k member. Did it get removed before or is it maybe one of the lazy at the factory days on Friday I wonder? Sweet ride and good catch on the wrong valve spring.👍👏
I looked at a 70 hemicuda about 40 years ago in either Arizona or Texas; can't remember which. It was originally Sandpebble Beige with a black top, but was repainted black like this one. I believe it was automatic on the column, but not sure. It didn't have wheel opening or rocker moldings on it and had the front lower of the quarter panel wheel openings and rockers folded over to formally accommodate big drag slicks. It also did not have the numbers matching engine. I wonder if it could be the same car?
I dunno...sandpebble with black top and hemistripe sounds kinda classy, although the all-black does look mean. I never liked white cars til I got one and with all the black and argent trim and gray/polished rim wheels it looks good to me now. But yea, cuda and HIP colors do kinda go together
I thing... no I know that is the first time I've ever seen the actually cylinder head chamber of an OG 426 Hemi. I mean, I've seen the engines, and tear downs before, but never the true chamber. Its truly hemispherical! I mean, of course, but I've just never seen one. So Fancy.
That car would be awesome in its original color. I love sand pebble beige. Auto on the column is great. Who needs to be slappin the stick anyway? Two hands on the wheel son and mash the gas.
@rocketresto I have a 1968 Firebird. 400, 4 speed, power steering, powerbrakes. Custom weave interior bucket seats, console. Tachometer, speedo goes to 160. This car has not been on the road for over 40 years. It's parked in my shop.
Geezuz.... the old saying.... "if I had a nickel for every HEMI I've Machined from scratch/Assembled and then DYNO'd before it left"..... I woulda retired even quicker than I did ! Was it a Mopar Crate Engine originally ? Lotsa Crates used Wiseco's.... no matter Barton/Cummins/Cat where-ever.
Now that we've addressed the elephant in the room it's time for some jokes. Jamie had a bad week. He kept dreaming he was a muffler and woke up exhausted. 😁 What do Jamie and the ocean have in common? They're two things you never turn your back on. Thank you, you're my favourite kind of audience. Captured. Thanks Tom and Jamie for the great video. God Bless all things Mopar.
Beige? *shudder* A beige hemi car. Mother of all creatures, what was *that* salesman thinking? Hey, remind that furry one about the Rocket Resto Dress Code, will ya? High and tight, soldier. We got a war to win here. - Ed on the Ridge
@@rocketresto Out of curiosity, I recall a video of you Sir explaining the market and prices etc and that actually makes me wonder; Being able to chose one, mostly to be used for weekend fun and occasional amateur racing, would you go for an original albeit less than perfect car, or for a fully restored, but non numbers-matching tribute/clone car?

@@mynameis9057 she sure does! 😝
That's why I listen with ear buds. Lol
Love everything about this car. Bench seat, dog dish, column shift. Shaker hood is really the only thing stopping it from being a sleeper.
Nice! A Hemi! They are a different breed of engine, for sure. It will be cool to see this back and running again.
Going to be fun putting it back together.
That is one big elephant in the room. 👍. pretty cool.
Love those E-bodies, had a 70 Challenger myself.
Thanks Tom, I enjoyed the video.
Great video. You guys are awesome. Thanks Tom
Great video, Tom!
Very informative, as always.
Cool seeing Jaime doing his thing as he does.

Doing our best to make it right!
Beautiful car, you guys did a good job.
That's a great car. This will be a good series!
Will do another video once we get the motor back from the machine shop and Jamie will fill the engine build.
Great video, Tom... Very cool car
That is a beautiful engine.

Great video on a really expensive car.

Now hang on, are you telling us that the too-long valve has been in that Cuda all these years you’ve had it in & out of your shop?
And wasn't hitting the piston? Spraying water on each exhaust manifold port would have discovered it wasn't hot...
It's a RUclips requirement to joke about peeing when removing coolant
If you don't you could be demonetized.

Detuned race motor, reason they don’t always work super well on the street.

It’s there, just under it in the cart. All Hemis got the big oil pan so they all have it.
Great job!

Almost has to be, would love to hear more info. As far as I know this is the only BL1 Hemicuda.
Wow what a beauty
We have the same hand writting 😂 very easy for me to read your notes
Tell Jamie that!
Someone at a car show told me that Ramcharger rims are the same as the Cuda.

hi Tom great ep the color code BL1 what color black is it.Also i see that Jamie is working about time make sure you give him something to do ha ha ha.
Car is TX9 now but obviously originally beige.
Cool car, even if it is a plain Jane Cudie

Amazing bit of engineering, the most efficient cylinder head design.

The 'cuda emblem on rear tail panel is in wrong position.
I'll trade you LUNCH for that Lebaron. 😁
I've never looked into the registry of production of my muscle car. I've had since high school to see how many cars are made like mine.
What car do you have? Watch the video I did yesterday, friend of mine makes boards that show you production figures.

You should have been a Doctor with handwriting like that, ha ha.
I’ve been told by multiple people it’s worse than a doctor.
Money aside, as I won't ever have enough to actually own a Hemi E-Body, what I'm learning here is why to NOT own a Hemi 😅
Everybody wants a hemi till you have to work on one, they are a total pain!

The biggest reason not to own an HEMI is fuel mileage. 80 gallons a mile at a 1/4 mile per tank.
