Hi Thomas, Electrocompaniet is legendary for it's first amp build on the works of Matti Otala........ The Two Channel Audio Power Amplifier................Look it up ! I still regret to have sold it because it needed money...........can't find one on the secondhand market ... I am a tube man for more than sixty years................but this one is one of the only transistor amps I will never forget .
@@ThomasAndStereo Hi Thomas. I wanted to update you on my thoughts regarding the A110 Denon amplifier. It completely transformed my S400 MK2. It sounds honestly like a different speaker. Soundstage is now out of the room, sparkling detailed highs without fatigue. I tried the built in DAC and it was just okay, but when paired with my Sabaj A20D it became so holographic and 3D. Synergy does really matter:

And then the drewling Mac-fans...:-) There are so many really thoroughbred audio marks & components out there. ElectroCompaniet from Norway is one of those. Densen from Denmark is also very good. Have you ever heard the Symphonic Line amps? They are German and are top of the world highend amps for very reasonable prices.
My living room system is a combination of Electrocompaniet ECI 6D and Sonus Faber Olympica I (both older models) with a KEF KC62. Very pleasing combination. All acquired second hand.
Hi Thomas, I have had the Elipson 1303, but I lost my balance, tript and fell, now my 1303 has a crack. The 1303 still sounds fine. A few days ago I found a pair of second hand Elipson Futura. I went to listen to them before I bought them, but my dac/ amp is so much better, the 1303 with crack sounded better than the Futura. In future I will combine my high end with the Futura. Elipson Futura normally is not easy to come by. Always sold never for sale. I was lucky, I hope I will love them a lot when I have them at home. Best wishes Yoram
Thanx Thomas !! You show ask your friend to match 40th Anniversary Comètes or Apertura Swings!! Electro companies is known in France ; however, considered rather high end!! Thanx again, Bill from Northeastern France !!
No kidding about the 3D soundstage! I can only imagine how this combo would sound connected to a Holo May dac, which would likely expand that soundstage even further.
I had for almost 20 years the Electrocompaniet ECI-2, bought it second hand, trade it in last year for a Cambridge Audio CXA81. The ECI-2 is a very very good integrated amplifier. Sometimes I think I made a bad choice. The ECI-2 is very musical with a great soundstage and still easy going. The CXA81 is for the money a fantastic amplifier though. But going back to Electrocompaniet is too expensive for me.
Thomas: I find my AMT tweeters a little harsh/grating in the upper mid range. I may be able to smooth this out some with an R2R dac vs DS? Looking forward to your upcoming pontus vs Schumann commentary. Perhaps a Schitt Loki would help flatten things out also? I am using a Vincent hybrid pre amp with a recently GL re tubed Prima Luna Prologue power amp.(KT88)-very good detail. Trying for the best possible sound in the entry $6000+ / 8000- range.(no turntable.) Really enjoy your very informed presentations. BTW: Vincent(Germany) is very under reviewed here in NA.
Depends what speaker you have. Going with a Loki is the safest way but it might not be the best sounding way. R2R are good but it can only reduce the brightness by maybe 5%.
Thank you Thomas for a great review as always. I am new to Hifi world so there are many things I still need to explore and learn. In regarding to the MPD speakers, how is the Elipson and Audio vector compare to monitor audio platinum series. They all use similar MPD technology so I am curious how monitor stack up against with these speakers. Thank you Thomas.
