You just described my PA spring turkey season. Called a gobbled for a friend on opener, had about 2 close shots but they either got hung up or couldn’t get a clean shot. Time is running out too lol Good luck Joshua! We got this!

I have never seen such a smooth countdown and shoot, not to mention the gobble. From a management and population standpoint, it won’t hurt to shoot some jakes as opposed to toms. They’re not going to be breeding much and some may die before they mature next spring. Shoot a jake and leave the toms to breed this year.

The snood length is usually another way to tell the turkeys age. The one on the left had one like a Tom would. He must have had the even fan? Those boys were mature for their age. Great hunt and footage!

Great hunt! I’ve been fooled before out West especially when they gobble like crazy in that prairie grass and all you can see are their heads!
Got to hunt Merriam’s on public land in New Mexico just a few weeks ago. Me and a buddy limited out and had an awesome hunt in 10 inches of snow to boot. I love hunting hard gobbling eastern’s but merriam’s are now a very very close second.
That was an amazing double... Both hammered at the same time!!!
Them is some beautiful birds, u guys are awesome drive all that way, sleep a few hours. Get up go somewhere u never been before, and boom turkey's down, Crazy good, keep it going Guys
And yeah, Merriam’s tend to move like crazy, but they generally always return to the same roost every evening. Most of the time the same exact tree.

I’ve chased many many Merriam turkeys up mountains. Took me a while, but I learned to never chase a Merriam hahaha
To be honest it’s nice you include some guys shooting jakes because it’s relatable. Most turkey hunters don’t bag long beards on every hunt. Sometimes if they want to harvest a bird and get some meat for the freezer they have to shoot a jake.

Bear spray THP! Or 10 mm or 44 mag. Let me tell you, I bumped the second biggest griz I ever saw hunting turkeys and a turkey load feels like a toy when you have a real encounter. Also had a sketchy lion encounter that started with a turkey. Used properly bear spray works. It is not perfect, but neither is a gun. A wounded griz is the single most dangerous thing in the mountains. Both weapons are handy and practice is how you make it turn out good.

Like you guys said when they come in doing all the things you want them too sometimes you just gotta shoot Um.
Ya all are beating yourselves up too much over shooting two Jake's. As much traveling as you guys do and as much money as you guys spend on out of state tags you can shoot what ever is a legal bird as far as I'm concerned. These birds followed the script to a tee and the footage was epic and the friendship is unbreakable. Congrats men on to beautiful birds, as always be safe and stay healthy my friend.

Great hunt! Nothing wrong with busting a gobbling jake...I’ve done it several times as soon as the poke their head up over a ridge. Good to see the old toboggan wearing Gooch in a turkey vid. Did his leg shake after he shot the turkey?
Same thing happened with me last weekend... heard a turkey, sounded like a Tom. Gobbled A TON. Called him off the roost and shot him at sunrise.
